A short from Arkansas local news... In 1990, on a return flight from Austin TX to their home in West Virginia, Daniel had a manic psychotic episode, removed the keys from the ignition of the small airplane that his father Bill Johnston was piloting, and tossed them out the window.

Remarkable they only had minor injuries, thanks to his father's calmness and skill in the midst of what must have been complete terror. Good to recognize the real super heroes in Daniel's life that helped him conquer and tame those demons that he faced. It is important to remember that it's not just about art and the positive results but the journey. The battles they faced together daily were literally life and death. If we forget the sacrifice and struggle what meaning could the art have beyond the superficial? This is in no way a celebration or exploitation of Daniel's mental illness, it is a celebration of his father's dedication to live through it with him and overcome. The news clip is a sobering reminder of what was at stake and what they had to overcome.

Aside from his delusions, that comic book he had on the plane didnt help either. He lived quite the life.. Daniel Johnston was a real go getter, and he saved my life multiple times. ❤

Bro you’re acting like he killed 50 people be quiet. Fans of his work are still very much aware of his tumultuous mental health. This case is well known and probably the worst publicized extent of some of the bad he’s done besides get in trouble for inappropriate behavior around bar girls or something when he was younger. He’s a complicated character but that still doesn’t detract from the art he produced. What he did wasn’t “unforgivable” so you don’t have to power trip and pretend the “raw hard truths” are coming out about him lmaooo. This doesn’t constitute separating art vs artist so you can still support his creative vision even after knowing that this event took place.

i prefer the medical advancements and human rights of the future. (present tense, as of you reading this) though it can be argued that /you/ still can't walk while black in america. way i see it, its a great time to be alive. the only issue is government and religion both kills. besides that, we got it made.

i was prescribed risperdal at 12 years old for ADHD and it gave me gynecomastia. and then vivance at 17 for bpd, gave me horrible seizures that persist to this day. and last week i tried cymbalta for tophaceous gout. made it so that i couldn't walk or even breathe. big pharma is poison. dan johnston and i are two of countless survivors.

i find it disrespectful for this very embarressing and expensive momentary lapse of reason danny had being posted and archived. and, by "his" official channel which is all the more disgusting. it wasn't a joke. our man, our friend daniel johnston. he suffered from madness and sorrow, he said it himself time and again. instead, let us celebrate and learn from his work and the message of love and wisdom and sincerity that luminates from the music he made.
