Flew into Narita in January 2000, probably not too long after this video was taken. I have never seen so many 747’s, in one place, seemed like half the airport had one at a gate. Sure do miss the Queen.
@@bwoolno KLM and Northwest had an alliance in those days and apparently it went as far as changing the livery (I did not see that before, but I knew about the alliance, I think it was short lived). Today it is between KLM and Air France (and is more than a simple alliance, it really is a merger).
Loved the L-1011. Flew on them often as a child through my 20s, and they were still in service when I worked for Delta at BOS 30+ years ago. Great airplane.
The dc 10 was statistically a very safe aircraft. I don't know of anyone that wouldnt6 fly on one I flew on them many many times in the 80s up untill 2001. They were much more comfortable than the planes of today the only 3 holes that was more comfortable were the L1011s with Delta.
N78003, the plane that comes into view at 11:21, is still in service with United Airlines. In fact, as I type this, it's in the air en route from Chicago to Munich.
Holy smokes, those Northwest/KLM double liveries trip me up. I know they were codesharing... but wow. Very cool paint concept that you would NEVER see happen today. Also miss the original Delta livery so much.
FAHIM TAJWAR it’s because the 2 airlines wanted to promote their codeshare partnership as they were some of the first airlines to have a codeshare partnership.
Golden age when MD, DC, 747 "dominate the game" in the sky. Even though I was only 5 years old in 1999, but thank you for uploading this video and it made me imagine the good old days of aviation before 9/11 and covid changed everything.
Back in the day the 727 was the workhorse of the industry. By far my favorite jet of all time (current is the A220) and you’d never believe how loud those original 727’s were on takeoff. Very distinct sound at taxi, very similar to the DC-9 and 737-200. I worked Ramp for Southwest when they still flew the 200’s. I miss these days more than I could even tell you…..
Love it! Times when triple sevens were not so popular... That was a good time to see planes with more than two engines at their heydays. So rare now.... :(
Seeing those trijets really dates the video. When was the last time I saw one? It’s been a long time. And now, of course, we’re beginning to see fewer 747s, too. Time moves on, and so do our flying machines.
Nice collection of old heavies and badges. I haven't seen so many DC-10s in years. Used to see quite a few KC-10s about 14 years ago when I lived near KACY in NJ where they would shoot touch & goes mostly from McGuire AFB.
Flew to and through Narita numerous times in my professional career, beginning in '88----destinations Hamamatsu, Taipei, Shanghai. Great memories, great footage!
The 90s were airliners on steroids. All these tri and quad engine jets. What a time to be alive. All the engines and smog! I love it. These days just aren’t the same 🥺
Flew from SIN with 747 Northwest ( to Portland) and transfered in NRT with another 747 NorthWest to Detroit and then with Mesaba Embraer CRJ ( Northwest Airlink) to Buffalo, as final destination in 1998. Good memories
I do miss the old days of aviation even though I wasn’t alive to witness it seems like a better time in aviation and these videos are a great escape for me from all the shit going on around the world
Sorry to say this but yes air travel used to be way better. It was expensive but the seats were bigger and on my trips to Japan on JAL it was always a 747-400. I used to ask for an upgrade to the upper deck. Now I hate flying, all the assholes back then who used to take buses now use the plane.
Those AA MD11's! Oh man, they looked so good in polished aluminum. 3:00 Hey, is that a DC-10-40 minus the center landing gear? I've heard about those, but never saw them.
I miss Northwest so much! Delta is pretty nice, but NWA was amazing. We used to fly them from MCO to MSP all the time when I was little. I wish Delta would at least paint part of their fleet in the NWA colors to show respect for the old airline. United needs to do the same for Continental, as well as Southwest for AirTran.
