Being that it’s private property, the owner of the gym and it’s parking areas can legally ask you to leave. Once they call the cops then the cops will follow the directive of the owner in escorting you off the property if they want you gone even though you’re “not doing anything” It’s just the way it is..

He was there for awhile I assume which is why he got approached, planet fitness owns the parking lot. He can ask for your ID and it's legal to do so. If you don't show the ID he can then ask you to leave. That's how it works
Cop was way more friendly and patient than the security guard lol. Also ppl are saying ya should just gave your I.D to him, but ya didn’t need too. If it’s his job to secure the área, than he can do that. But you sitting in ya car doing nothing isn’t suspicious activity.

Gotta give you respect you were really courteous to the officer when he showed up and the security guard was just looking for something to do and a reason to use his lights and radio. That's how things are supposed to go. I'd imagine if you were one of those guys that didn't say a word and said, "I know my rights I am remaining silent" things would have went different. They probably would have pulled you out of the car and handcuffed you until they ran your license and the plates on the car then let you go....
