I had a mate who worked for JJB Sports, he used to get tickets for all sorts of sporting events. We went to the darts where we had VIP tickets. I was sat next to Mark Selby the world snooker champion. Across the table was The Viking the late great Andy Fordham RIP. We were surrounded by all top flight darts player but my mate wasn’t happy because we weren’t in front of the stage. He tried to get us moved but couldn’t ( thank god ). I had an amazing night, one of the best sports events I’d been to, which included premiership football, European Football, International Rugby, World Championship boxing etc. The only event to come close was Nigel Benn v Chris Eubanks II, that atmosphere was incredible.

How's this for scary: I had been married about 4 years when this came out (I was not a child bride either!) and it was released the year before I had my son, who is obviously now 19, he'll be 20 this year. And his parents will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary later this year - if we don't kill each other first (but we've managed ok so far, been together in total about 27 years now lol). Feeling quite old here! I agree that it was an incredible time. There have been some incredible decades, but for me the 90's through to early 2000's were the best times for music and going on nights out - my happiest memories for partying. That said, there were some cracking local bands when my son was younger too, I used to take him to local family-friendly music festivals held on weekends during the daytime. Actually there were some pretty good bands in the 80's too (not always found on the TV and "normal" radio with the tat which was also around at that time), and I borrowed some of my parents' excellent taste in music from their 60's and 70's collections too (again, not the tat, but the good stuff lol). We are exceptionally lucky to have been alive for some brilliant music, and the atmosphere on a night out couldn't be beaten back in those days. No phones and selfies every 5 minutes, just lose your inhibitions and have a good time. Oh, and coming home from a night out and dropping into bed with your hair smelling of smoke, because you used to be allowed to smoke in the pubs and clubs so EVERYone smelled of it til they showered next day. Woah, better put the brakes on my trip down memory lane there lol, sorry.

I make a point of revering in any album that blows me away, it imprints so strongly and permanently! Even if the times are gone, it's just absolute certainly that new ones are not far away! I lost my best friend/bandmate last year, and honestly... once I got over the finality of it all, I've got enough mad-ass memories complete with a soundtrack worthy of a film. I feel you on the glowing times, where we really were living like kings! We pushed the party vibes to some ridiculous extremes, and yeah... I don't know if I'll ever find anyone who could out-extreme extreme like that, but I'm never gonna stop searching :D I fully intend on going out and making shit happen... I can sit here and wait for other people to revive some of the more out there, underground music events, or I can make it happen. The vibe I get is that so many people want small events that cater to what people REALLY want in a killer playlist. I've never enjoyed a night out quite like I should, because I'm not the target obedience, and most people I know agree. One day, one day :D
