Given what car manufacturers bring into Australia, there is not much in the way of a normal car anymore. Most offerings are SUV style or Ute wise 4 x 4. The manufacturers are pushing us in the direction we are going. Money wise, why pay 40k for a Corolla that that has limited cab room when you can buy a larger feeling vehicle for similar coin. And the Hybrid/ Electric bullshit makes no financial sense, you pay say 3k more for a Hybrid than a petrol, based on the average person driving 10-15k per year, it basically takes 3-5 years to get the extra paid up front back from a petrol car. Might make some people feel like they are doing the right thing, but most people with common sense know its not changing the outcome here in Aust.

I'm trying to get her and the kids to go vegan but whenever I cook they go out for burgers. I'm thinking of getting her an EV but she's put me on stoppage and when I told the kids they said, yeah-nah and called their mates and got their dad to drop them at school in his hellcat challenger, as a protest.

I am a chippy and a farmer I live 4 hrs from the nearest electric train I have a 13 yr old diesel bt50 It does it’s job day in day out carrying tools and materials,hay and stock feed , by now if it was electric it would be up for a new battery = say $40000 + how much energy and carbon to make it

I laugh when ever I hear people talking about doing their bit for the environment with ev's and that we all need to start buying them. The manganese mine I live near uses on average 8million litres of diesel per month and it's a relatively small mine. Imagine how much is being used just in the mines in Australia. You and you ev aren't helping the environment one little bit.

You haven't explored the REASON the top three selling vehicles are dual cab utes. Luxury vehicle tax / capital gains tax for company vehicles / self employed people / fleet sales. These vehicles are basically from a company point the most lean on tax for everyone and they hold their value fairly well in the commercial vehicle / 4x4 range while saturated hold well if Toyota etc. All massive draws for accounting. It's not because everyone WANTS to drive these cars, but packaged company vehicles are always dual cab utes because tax reasons for company and employee alike. We also became a dumping ground for worst emissions vehicles in the developed world under the last decade of Fed Lib gov. So we got the lowest tech, high emission diesel engines in the world because we were only of the only developed world markets that allowed them. Particularly high sulfur diesel content engines. Braindead pseudo 'car journalism' .... what you're just providing 'fan service' to your audience who love a good circle jerk about 'hur hur EV bad... Diesel / Petrol GOOD' without actually looking at the trending market share and shifting projections and new technologies being leveraged. Legislation is what is going to get you eventually. Like not being able to drive your diesel bro-dozer into the CBD / City congested areas without paying a emissions / congestion charge. Paying aggressively more and more at the pump for diesel / petrol. Plus with solar rooftop penetration in Australia, why wouldn't you be going for $1 for 100km redirected solar feed in tarrif to car ? Sure, super chargers / high speed travel chargers are expensive (similar price to petrol currently) but feed in solar at home for daily commute to work and back low distance is basically free if you can afford the expenditure on an EV and you don't regularly drive more than 150km from home on round trips... as they become cheaper will be a no brainer for a lot of people for a cheap daily for a lot of cases. Company vehicle / contractor vehicle sales / fleet sales and most importantly to the bean counters TAX laws define what sells well. In the USA Massive 'Trucks' like the F-150 or bigger / RAM 1500 or bigger are AGAIN the best sellers because they are exempt from emissions requirements of (cars) to skirt emissions and fuel economy requirements across the board since they are 'Work vehicles for trucks' despite being mostly luxury equipped raised bro-dozers with chrome wheels. Cause and effect, Regulation and loophole. Keep up the entertainment, but let's not pretend you know anything about what drives the market share and sales.

If you have to tow 3 tonnes or more what else are you going to buy outside of the diesel Ute / SUV class ? Silverado , F truck and Ram are much worse on fuel than the diesel 4 cylinder utes.

I'm one of the stereo types unfortunately owning a Next Gen Wildtrak 🫣😂. They just tick a lot of boxes for a typical family who doesn't live in the inner city. We use it for everything, it needs to fill a wide range of roles a hatch back or sedan simply doesn't offer. I've actually done a few videos on my own YT channel and it's amazing how many views it's received organically compared to our other content so it's quite an interesting space. On the EV front, we live near a Tesla charging station on the Pacific Highway, north of Sydney. It's amazing how many are now on the road, to a point that during the holiday peak periods you now have soo many lining up and waiting to charge. That to me would be annoying and demonstrates we can't have a boom of EVs taking over the market, the infrastructure if you aren't charging at home or work simply isn't in place to make this all work. All that said, if I was just commuting from A to B and didn't have to rely on a charging network, I probably would consider an EV as a daily however 👍

Here, instead of Utes, it's dominated by diesel SUV that was based on utes (Fortuner from Hilux, Pajero Sport from Triton) Not so much utes here since tax system is making owning them for personal use more difficult

You guys are missing something here.....more EVs means less petrol sales...less petrol sales means lower demand ...lower demand means lower petrol prices for me to drive my 5ltr commy, which by the way gets 10.3 ltrs per 100 klms better than your yank tank. Think about it🤔

Own a car you like, dont buy what you get told is expected of you. The car company wants you to buy their cheapest model to make, so they can drive up demand and inflate the price. 2 years later youll be sick of it and be back buying thier latest heap of crap.

The LC 300 does come with a 3.5v6 TT but toyota aust only have the diesel, i think more people would choose a petrol if they could 🤷‍♂️ (idm being proven wrong if you can but i havent seen it)
