@@hudsonclarkk Spoken like someone who’s never been a mo-cap actor. It is not “literally” all the SFX team, although they deserve props as well. Don’t use big words if you don’t know what they mean. People overuse the word “literally” so much these days and it’s rarely in the correct context. Anyway, it takes a great deal of talent to be able to move enough like an ape for the SFX team to be able to do their job well. If I recall correctly, they had specific training for moving like an ape. And their expressions are actually fairly close to the final product, considering the final product has a different facial structure.

The actors did a fantastic job, and they understood the assignment well. As an artist, creating things from the mind without the proper knowledge and reference would kill me and make my sketches look unrefined and impractical if used in the real world.
Andy Serkis has to be one of the most criminally underrated actors of all time. He conveyed so much emotion and inner conflict in these movies with barely any dialogue. His performance as Smeagol/Gollum is one of a kind. Dude is an absolute masterclass actor.

Karin Konoval really got so much about Maurice's personality right in the decisions she made about how he moved. He is gentle, kind, and intelligent YET formidable. Orangatans are all those things. In just his movements, she nailed this character. He was my fave. He was Caesar's first friend within his own kind and he anchored him, kept him grounded. I don't think Caesar would've became the leader he did and survived all the hardships that go along with that without Maurice by his side.
I never see her brought up in lists of actors playing serious roles of the opposite sex. Understandably so, because it's performance capture. But she's so good I think it should be brought up anyway
Andy Serkis is such an exceptional actor. No role, no dialogs go to waste when he's present. Caesar is such a memorable character; his expressions, voice, everything was done to perfection. Andy has a talent for making fictional/cgi characters be just as memorable as any other "normal" character.

The storytelling, writing for the humans and apes (especially apes), and the freaking fantastic cinematography that blows my mind every time I watch these films. not really fair, unlike live action actors the performance capture goes through a whole process of vfx animation that filters, manipulates and adjusts the performance shot by shot until the director is happy with it
WETA Digital should’ve gotten A LOT of awards or even nominations for basically working overtime on how realistic there VFX/CGI was for these Apes for this Reboot Trilogy, especially in Dawn and War

These movies are so criminally underrated. I'm shocked at the fact none of these films were ever nominated for anything. Everything about them is a master class of cinema and we need more people to appreciate them.
That Caesar actor that guy is sooooo good ive been watching these movies he embodies the ape. Like he must have studied sooo much. He nails that role I love when a actor or Actress just dives into a role and becomes it.
This level of acting goes beyond conventional rules and requires a far greater understanding of reflect actions and visual effects. Kudos to all the actors, the technicians, and the whole team 🙏🙂
I've seen both of these clips before. Except they weren't stitched together. Watching them now simultaneously, really makes me understand (and appreciate) how incredible these actor's performances were.
According to me this is high level acting..you have to emote in a way that it feels like real animals with the human touch .all the while ensuring you give the right expression for the technology to pick up also showing us how the animal kingdom really would look n feel like if it has human intelligence...
