Planet X just nails the fall of cybertron designs so well it’s honestly astounding and the alt modes are so clean! Great review of an awesome figure!

After all those years Planet X Vulcan is still the best Grimlock ever made

This was my very first 3rd party figure and remains my favorite Transformer in my entire collection. The metallic finish just makes it so much better. I really hope they do a metallic coat on all the Dinobots, I know they did Grimlock and Swoop. I hope to get all of Planet X's Dinobots some day. I also REALLY want them to do Wheeljack and all the other WfC/FoC designs. By far my favorite Transformers designs. I miss those games so much... makes me sad we'll never see another sequel.

That’s some leader/commander class level engineering with some masterpiece level paint work. Feels like Hasbro could easily make something similar if they just put in a little bit of effort

I have this Grimlock and Swoop, both in the metallic finish. They look fantastic in either mode. Definitely the highlights of my Transformer collection.

This whole set was probably the best that came from the 3p dinobot wars (atleast at this scale). Planet X knocked them out of the park, this guy and slag were my favorites from them, but the rest were good too. They mastered making dinobots in my opinion

If you rotate the waist during transformation, you can bend the legs and move the tail pieces behind the torso in a way that bends the plastic far less than how you did it here

This is probably the most beautiful transformers figure I've ever seen

I think the studio series 86 grimlock is the best g1 figure but if we’re talking about any grimlock than this one is definitely on top

This figure looks amazing

With how game accurate their figures are, I really wouldn’t be surprised if Planet X somehow got permission to work directly from the in game models, although I doubt it.

I have the red version (Hephaestus) of this figure, and that version is equally a masterpiece as this one. I bought the Vulcan version, but I still haven't gotten mine🤔 Edit: are you going to get the other planet x dinobots?

I love how they placed his thrusters on his dino mode back. Just like the Fall of Cybertron game.

This was my first 3rd party figure ever, I got the original release but I have since sold it but I am definitely going to grab either the metallic version or the black and purple version.

I own this exact figure and it still stands strong in my display cabinet along with his comrads from planet x

I definitely like the paint of this one but for design I like ss86 better, the head not tabbing in in robot mode bothers me more than it should

Planet X killed it on this figure. Vulcan is still my favorite Grimlock figure that is until Cacus (their IDW Maximum Dinobots Grimlock) comes out.

Easier way to convert the tail is playing with the waist joint. Without the dino head in the way, just turn the waist and the knee 90° on their articulation and you have all the space you need to move the tail piece without flexing too much.

There's something about the T-Rex head which I don't like... I don't know what it is though, maybe it looks a bit too chunky? I think I'd have preferred the lower jaw to be thinner and have the neck to connect higher on the head maybe? The tail is very cool, but on the whole, as a G1 kid, SS86 wins out between the two for me.

SS Gamer Edition is gonna be SOOOOO good. Grimlock is a definite Commander Class while the rest of the Dinobots should be Leader class. Swoop can probably be a Voyager class

You should've recreated the scene when Grimlock tears off and eats Shockwave's arm as revenge, for the experimentation done on him.

I really hope they'll make the rest of dinobots to be metallic version as well

Where do u get these non hasbro transformer figs from?? Seriously wanna buy these. They seem better than hasbros. Hope its not more expensive tho. I mean its just metallic paint and more detailed moulding which makes such a big difference

Finally, a Grimlock that has a realistic tail that doesn't look like a boat!

i do love this figure, looks great in robot and T-rex mode, brings back great memories from the game but transforming it is not the best. there's the tail, the chest, all the little pegs literally all over the figure, i even have the same issue with the foot. im warning anyone that wants this guy, he's sharp

@PrimeVsPrime, when transforming the legs into the the tail, rotate the hips so that the leg you are transforming so that it is facing the front of the figure. Bend the knee and rotate the tail piece out and from that point you can just extend the tail without flexing that piece.
