Seeing old tractors brought back to life always brings a smile to my face. I love watching your videos, so I know you have plenty of projects. However, I’d love to see an 86 series International one day. I grew up on a 1086, and I love to see as much red paint as possible. Even Massey if my arm is twisted lol
Hey there, New subscriber here from Montreal Canada. Love the videos . Looking forward to binge watching them over the Christmas holidays. Stay safe, Dirk
Those 7000 series planters are awesome. Planted silage corn for a long time with one of those. Biggest thing just wash the dry fertilizer boxes out and keep and eye on chains and sprockets and they're just about indestructible.
Good idea letting the tyre company fix the puncture. That size of tyre full of calcium is not a job for one guy. But I know if you had to you could do it.
My dad bought the exact same planter brand new when I was a kid. Note we unbolted the tongue after we had ot backed in place in the shed so we could park other stuff closer in for the winter.
I can tell you spiked closing wheels and drag chains should be very high on your list of “improvements” for that 7000 right away 😀…. Proud of you “kid” 😏💣💪🏻
Make sure the tires on planter are the correct circumference. That is not the tires the planter came with. If they are the wrong size it will change your planting population as everything drives from those tires. If you got a book it will tell you the tires that are supposed to be on it. If they are not the same circumference you need to change them, unless you are not very picky on population. It may be that there is still a sprocket combination that suits you. Might just have to play with it a little.
nice to see how things are going and the operation as a whole. I'm not a JD guy but that 5010 probably would have looked good with a coat of paint lol thanks for the video!
Excellent video JT :) , my late dad , late uncle did 250 acres on home farm, rent ones had one 560 , 350 second , 3 was 210 acres surprises me used 2 row for corn and grains International # 171 , McCormick International # 510 bigger one for grass plus corn ! 360 head of beef cows and calfs ! But they had super crops to no Soybeans , just corn pick also silo and hay crops in 3 types and lots of grain of Wheat , Oats & Barley and mix one called Red Root for years! Work from 5:00 am to 10:00pm sometimes to 1:00am if super busy take crops off need be! In 1994 I found John Deere 474 A corn and fertilizer planter for $500.00 all need one new chain but took care super by original owner too and so did my father! Why got for Old McCormick International 171 and 510 hard get parts for them at unless find auctions sales had them ! Save trouble too looking!
My dad had a 6 row the same model style,,he used it for many years as it was trust worthy planting almost a 1000 arcers each year,he pulled it with a 1210 David Brown, that tractor used hardly no fuel, that why he ran it keeping his planting cost down,,if you ever get a chance to buy one ,do so and check the fuel gals per hour specs on it
Flats!!!! We only could could pray for flat well drained fertile lands!!!! A Turd Fergoooson with a flat: Come on man!! (sigh). Remember the days when the calcium was used for weight and then the 'ROT'. 'Trust the science' as they say! The Turd Ferguson fleet is just aroung the corner. Cheers.
I think that and harvesting really late in the year are the two worse things about corn other than the cost of planting. We had livestock and chopped it for silage so there wasn't much left in the field. That was over 30 years ago and I can still smell that fresh silage! Loved it!!
The 7000 and 7200 i use are easy to find parts and upgrades for. Still very very good planters. I think my newest piece of equip is my 7200 i run allis tractors and my 1978 jd 4400 combine and 1974 grain trucks i am stuck in 70s and your right they are paid for. Enjoy watching ya JT
Hey JT ,the biggest corn planter we ever had was a 2 row I think, one row silage chopper, 16 ' header on Massey Harris combine ,etc . GOOD TIMES. THANKS FOR SHARING. 😊
Just throwing this out there. If u can find some older but still in good shape grain bins. There is company that makes cone bottoms for almost any size. They work awesome! Don’t have to worry with a floor or even clean them out!!!!! Some have places to put fans on them.
Looks like a nice planter but as for the tire where I am at most farmers call CO-OP and they have a truck that comes out to the farms and fixes your tires or changes them .And it saves your back and time .
JT, it may just be my phone, but the 2010 sounds like it’s missing, or Mabe an exhaust leak? Hard to tell from my phone. Another great vid!! Keep at it!
Those wavy coulter things piled in front of the planter when you picked it up, i think were for it--look like no-till openers. did you get those with it? good to have options if you're outta time and the seed ain't planted yet :) Are there mobile tire repair companies near you? It's easiest to park the tractor in the driveway and let them drive in and do it all.
Yes and yes. 😉. Found a mobile guy that’ll come out and do the work on that for me. And I tool the no till openers for that too. Got lots of other extra parts for that planter actually
awfully snazy squirrel feeder 🙂 kinda partial to Masseys as the original mid 1800s Massey implement factory is a 1/2 mile from me in Newcastle Ontario .It now houses a dollar store & some offices but she still exists
the town hall across the street from it was built by the Massey family , the later ? late 1800s factory in Toronto is now condos they built Massey Hall in Toronto too , the best music venue in the city old school
growing up in southern Ontario thru the 70s , our farms were all laid out at 50 acres, real estate speculation became a big thing around Toronto in the 70s & land owners got big tax breaks if it was under till. some friends of my father got into custom farming , basicly lease cheap & turn a 50 acre farm into a 50 acre field . 9000 series Deeres ,Lambert had a Steiger Cougar .... cutivators & combines that only belonged on the prairie started to appear in our little fish bowl
Massey had proving farms south of Unionville Ontario & the likes of your 1805 would roam the land We had an NNA Ford Jubilee ( wish I still had that tractor) a Cockshutt1850 (Oliver basicly) & a small Deere 4000 series I guess .... utter toys compared to what was showing up lol
Slingshot you right into the 70s, 😂. If I'm correct, they make the clutch brakes in 2 halves now so you can replace them without pulling the transmission. Huge upgrade. I farm with olivers and whites, and a few other strays. My neighbor, DICK, whos real name is Jim,😂 😂, always made snide comments about my impressive line up of junk. Well, gets the job done, dirt cheap too! So I win. 👍
Looks like not too difficult a repair on that planter. What sort of yields do the locals get there? Here in the Red River Valley there is alot of corn these days...but I never see any really great looking corn crops. Now when I lived in Southern MN only a couple miles from Iowa, there was corn! I swear...that corn down there was over ten feet high! Must have been 300 bushels!
I think our county average is in the 160-175 range, but 200 is not uncommon. I won’t set my standards quite that high as a new producer of corn but I think with this little planter I’ll have a fighting chance 😉
@@jtsbarnngrill6873 well good luck on that JT! One thing about that planter, you can get into small areas where that large equipment can only dream about. An expensive crop here bc the amount of fertilizer it takes, costly seed and today's price here locally is barely over $4. Am sure with your low overhead and skills you will be just fine! 👍
Cool seing a regular guy getting and fixing equipment for next to nothing. You need that to afford losing money on whatever grows in the fields. You can become a millionaire on this - if you start out as a multi millionaire...
