I really appreciate you walking thru all the options! Your final list would be very similar to mine. We will be doing LL Storm for 7th grade. I was really excited they revamped the 7th and 8th grade levels. The grammar in LL is definitely lighter and I wish they had a reference to look back when you forgot a concept. I have been using the Usborne grammar and punctuation books for quick references. One thing I will say is after using LL for 3 yrs now I’ve noticed it reviews previously learned grammar concepts from other levels and builds upon them each year. The writing has always been lacking. I just have my daughter use what she learned from IEW to do the composition assignments. She thinks it’s funny that LL will assign a paper over the length of 2 weeks when she can write the entire thing in 20 mins now. I am intrigued with My Perspectives now. I am always trying to find something to challenge my daughter with in language arts, since it comes so easily for her. The only drawback I see is she really likes the independence that LL gives her.
I’d never heard of my perspectives so thanks for showing that. I didn’t realize core knowledge had literature stuff. Have you looked into moving beyond the page? At I think 4th grade it’s student led. You can find people selling units for cheaper. Goes up through 9th.
No worries. What works for one may not work for the other. I am still trying to figure out writing. We have been using 180 days which isn’t bad as it includes grammar and some fun writing. I just am not sure how far to go with it and what not. I have been looking at winning with writing and essentials in writing.
