@@NordicReactions Norway is quit a bit larger than it look on a map. Basically to get from Oslo to Bergen or Trondheim is a day of travel by train. Oslo to Nordkapp is longer than the distance from Oslo to Milan, Italy. If you want to get to the fjords you should fly to Bergen or Stavanger, and plan a night there before flying to Oslo, or the other way around, fly there from Oslo, and fly home from one of those airports. There is often quite a distance from the cities to the fjords too, so you should reserve at least one entire day for the trip. Not saying that Bergen not got some spectacular scenery just in the middle of the city, though

If you wish to experience an average Norwegian lifestyle, dining out is generally not part of it. The typical Norwegian rarely eats out, not primarily due to financial constraints, but because they do not find it worthwhile. Living in a high-cost country can be mentally challenging, as a sense of financial prudence often restricts one’s desires. Norway’s high expense levels can be attributed to the fact that it has five times more public employees per capita compared to Great Britain. The challenge with eating where you stay is, how do you know what to make to get the genuine Norwegian experience?

@VoornaamAchternaam-kr4vk I'm not begging, and it's not at all embarrassing to offer this trade. If anyone is willing to help out, they are welcome to, and in turn, I'll make more content for those who showed their support. I strongly discourage those who are not able to. Hope this cleared things up 😊

Botannical garden has flowers and is free, but it's fall.. Bergen is 7 hours by train or 50 min by plane btw.. Some attractions around Oslo: Vikingship museum at Bygdøy, Holmenkollen skijump and Oscarsborg fortess (where the German ship Blücher sank).

If you want to see the fjords, then it would be best to visit Stavanger, Bergen or Ålesund. Oslo is far away from all of the mountainous fjord for a day trip and it's costs. It's possible to go to Flåm from Oslo with 3 hours in Flåm with the price of 5000 NOK for the three of you. That lot of money!

Vigeland sculpture park is a must. Take the T-banen (trolley/tram) to Holmenkollen ski jump to see amazing views over Oslo. Depending on your interests go to the folk museum by ferry for history and a fjord view of Oslo, or walk around Oslo center for contemporary vibes and visit museums. The small huts along the water front are saunas. Meats you should try are reindeer, moose, various cured fish , goat and sheep and of course brown cheese with waffles. I'm Norwegian/American who's been living here for nearly 40 years and was a folk dancer before my knees gave out and my wife sing traditional songs. How long are you staying and what are your interests?

Here's some suggestions. Clothing: September in Oslo can be quite cold, but probably similar to the UK. If you plan on going to western Norway or doing some hiking, you should bring a rain jacket and pants for hiking (and possibly hiking boots). I suggest buying a traditional wool sweater in Oslo if you need it (aka Marius or Ulvang genser). Genuine Marius sweaters are quite expensive, but will definitely keep you warm and last a lifetime if you take proper care of it, and it is quite unique to Norway. I believe you can find Ulvang sweaters in some sports stores. Oslo sweater shop near the royal castle may be worth a visit. Public transportation: It is very good in Oslo. I suggest using the subway, because it's fast, convenient and efficient. Honestly the walk all the way from Akershus fortress to the royal castle is only 20 minutes or so, so you can walk to almost all the places mentioned here easily. Bikes and scooters are also a great way to get around. Safety: Don't worry about it. Oslo is very safe, and there's no place there I would feel unsafe, even at night. I wouldn't worry about racism either. Customs/etiquette: Alcohol in public is not allowed, but I've broken that rule many times. If you're caught just say you are a foreigner, and cops will probably just give you a verbal warning 😅 Norwegians like their space, probably more than most other countries. If you take public transportation, just observe, and you'll see what I mean 😊 Other than that, I can't think of anything. Don't be afraid to ask people. Although we may seem cold ir distant, we are usually very helpful. Money/paying: Don't bother taking out any Norwegian money. You can pay with a card everywhere. We also use a lot of apps to pay. "Vipps" is often used for paying for stuff and transfer money, and you can use "Ruter" for public transportation in Oslo, or "EnTur", which also covers public transportation outside Oslo and bikes. Just add your card, type in your destination, and all the options will pop up. Places to visit: I always try to visit Mathallen (the food hall). You can also walk there, following the Akerselva river. There's a street on the way with some cool grafitti. Can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. Food to try: When we're on the topic of food, you should try waffles with brown cheese (Harald's Vaffel on Grunerløkka), sausage with lompe from Syverkiosken. Seafood is good, both in Mathallen (Vulkanfisk) and Fiskeriet at Youngstorget. Dovrehallen in Storgata has a menu of traditional Norwegian food as well, like meatballs, fårikål, flesk & duppe and reindeer minced meatcake. "Den glade gris" near the royal castle has some good pork (i recommend the "svineknoke" signatur menu). WB Samson is a nice bakery to visit. Also, if you like beer, I suggest trying some local beer from a mikrobrewery. Røør, Schouskjelleren, Brygg or Oslo mikrobryggeri maybe? For snacks, definitely buy Smash at a grocery store. It's like crack cocaine, so be careful 😅 Kvikk lunsj, and basically all chocolate from Freia or Nidar are good also. Sørlandschips if you want crisps. Mårud and Kims are also good.
@TullaRask
@TullaRask 2 месяца назад
The artistic hood you can see following "Akerselva" river is in "Brenneriveien" street. At night time it's a music scene and entertainment. Several art schools there and on sundays they have a flee market or even some craftsmen sell their things. Akerselva is a very nice trip if you like a bit of nature.
@madsimusnuo
@madsimusnuo 2 месяца назад
@@TullaRaskI think the street between Blå and Ingensteds became Ingens gate at some point, coming from Brenneriveien, is all close to Hausmania in Hausmanns gate, if you walk up along the river you will definitely notice the area before coming to Vulkan and the food hall there, just south west of the Grünerløkka area, which also has a lot of places for you to eat. I recommend norwegian waffles with brown cheese, strawberry jam and sour cream. The ultimate combo: savoury, sweet and sour.

Crime is Not a problem, and you will not be discriminated as a tourist, reste easy on those 2 points. Get the "Oslo Pass" for access to public transport if you end up in oslo for more then 24h. Public transport will take you wherever you need to go.. you can even take "free" ferrytours around the fjord with that. It will be stressful for you to go to the westland fjords on a 3 day trip. If you do it, I would absolutely recomend flying there to save time.. ( train takes like 7,5 h each way) Ps; september is a fantastic mounts to travel in Norway,, usualy not to wet, and not too cold. If you are only going to spend a few days in Norway and you are planning to stay in Oslo, you cannot visit the most famous of Norwegian fjords. Sognefjord/Geirangerfjor is approx. 1 day from Oslo. If you want to visit Norwegian fjords, then you can visit Oslofjord, but this fjord is not as spectacular as the fjords in Norways western and northern parts. Remember that Norway is a large country with a small population density

Norway on a budget... :S... it's possible. But everything is relatively expensive here. (I'm sure you already know... at least I hope you do) If there are public places you want visit (I'm thinking places like Pulpit Rock... and I'm using this one as my example) , you could look for tips to avoid some of the tourist traps. Pulpit Rock has a parking area that charges a lot. But there are cheaper places to park in the area. Edit: "The Scream" is not depicting someone screaming. It's a common misconception... They are hearing the scream. (Or "feeling" a sort of scream... The artist were having a moment when he was out walking one time. This was described as a scream from nature... something like that)

About transportation, you can walk across the city in less than 30 minutes - it's not exactly London :) We have small cities. Edit again: One thing I see a lot of tourists doing is buying water! Oslo is the gateway to not a god damned crap. Take the flight directly to Sola (Stavanger) from London and skip Oslo, which is just a crime and yuppie hotspot with manufactured "culture" The best parts of Norway are in the southwest and the north. The whole southeastern area is a tourist trap and has very little of value except some minor historical sites/ museums. The most historically important places in order are Trondheim (Viking era), Narvik (WW2), Stavanger and Bergen (Black plague, oil) and then in terms of raw beauty it's Lofoten/ Ofoten > Tromsø > Ålesund > Stavanger = Bergen = Trondheim and Oslo isn't even on that list if you include 200 places
