This trunk looks almost perfect. It's nice looking. I like the O-ring design. The price isn't terrible. I like the reinforced lid. The biggest issue I see is that the box itself is flimsy. Looks too thin and not rigid enough to make it through the years. I might still buy one but I'm going to try and find something better.

+Chris W It is flimsy when the lid and body are separated, once you clamp the lid to the body it become quite solid. But I am sure they make them tougher too. Thanks.

+Richard Lloyd How waterproof is it? Have you left it outside in a downpour? Any leaks? I need something waterproof for my camping gear. I'm tempted to buy this but I might splurge on a Pelican.

+Chris W This case is water resistant and would survive a rain storm without issue but if you want a case you can throw in a raging river and submerge then the Pelican is a far better choice as they are guaranteed water proof and usually pretty tough. Thanks.

+Chris W Properly secured there should be no problem with doing that. I would zip tie the locks (1:06 in the video) to stop any snatch and grab artists out there and as a secondary lock. Thanks.

Does anyone have any idea what size the oring stock is? I've got one of these totes but they don't sell the sealed version anymore. I'm planning on buying some oring cord and making up a seal, but I'm curious how big the cord stick was. Looks like it would probably be 3/8" or maybe even 7/16".

The thickness is 7/16" or 11.08 mm and the total length of the ring is 8' or 2.44 m Thanks

Richard Lloyd Thanks for replying. I called Plano and they said they don't offer the oring version anymore but they sell the seals so you can put them in yourself. Interestingly, she said you have to change the latches when you add the seal. She shipped me the seal and the four latches for $10 and it showed up about 5 minutes before your comment did, ironically.... Thanks again!

Then don't sit on it? It's not rocket surgery, rather a freakin' box with a gasket. Besides, "scent control" is not about scent getting out (unless your food is in there and bears are circling it), rather it is about keeping moisture out so you don't get mildew smell inside.... so in that case, yeah, if you sit on it, don't get up while it's raining sideways as it might draw some rain in.
