Hi everyone!
Today I wanted to do a little plant care for my Philodendron Micans. I bought this plant in December, and have hated the medium it's in since then. Since I recently bought a ton of LECA, I decided to transfer it to passive hydroponics. I'm also adding a moss pole so that it can climb!
x, Jen

THANK YOU for explaining that the brown part is the aerial roots and the white part is water roots. I kept thinking the brown part was the root starting to rot or something and always had me worried. No one has ever explained this, ever. So thank you so much for explaining that!

I've become interested in hydroponics and hopefully will start testing it after this pandemic. These are really cool videos to see, hopefully your leca journey has lots of success!

I have been propagating in jars with leca for a while. I just keep about an inch of water with a drop of KLN at the bottom. I have only converted one plant to leca and I doubt I will do more. I just don't prefer it. I like dirt, what can I say? But I did find that an inexpensive soldering iron makes quick and easy holes in plastic containers. I used a Talenti Gelato container for my plant and created several holes above a 1-inch water line. The lid even makes the perfect "coaster" for the container.

Omg I have so many talenti containers!! Genius! Let me go dig them out of my cupboard

@@BeesHouseofPlants I also realized the tool I have been using to poke holes is a wood burning tool not a solder iron. They are under $20. Just be sure to do it outside in case of fumes from the melting plastic. But it works really well.

when you transferred your micans to leca, did you get any light webby, clear moss looking things around the stems that were in contact with the leca around the top? I find when i first transfer phildendrons it does that, and i just transferred my micans and its doing the same thing? btw i love your channel!

Hi! Sorry for the late reply. It currently doesn’t but I totally know what you’re talking about. I don’t really know what causes it, but I’ve found that when I propagate in clear containers and when I don’t change the water often it happens the most. I seen the question asked in different Facebook groups and I think the consensus is that it’s not a bad thing!

@@BeesHouseofPlants oh no worries, thanks for getting back to me! I think i've also figured its when you leave on the dried up outer layer of where the petiole grows from as well. After i pulled it all off, i stopped seeing it. but good to hear its not a bad thing! :)

New plant friend here I just stumbled across your channel due to this video I definitely want to say you have definitely encouraged me to add a miss pole to my micans the trailing looks is bad but I just think doing it your way will promote larger leaves. I definitely will be watching more of your content and hope you can join me over on my channel as well. I definitely can use more plant friends. Thanks for sharing💚🌿

I just bought a micans today (have been seeing it for a while but was always like 'no there's other plants you want more') and I'd love switching a lot of my things to hydroponics. Now I heard recently that normal pots are not suited to hydroculture because they're not glazed hard enough to not let the water seep through. what's your experience witht his so far? have you been noticing your pots leaving any sort of rings on your surfaces?
@BeesHouseofPlants
@BeesHouseofPlants 3 года назад
Hi! I haven't had any issues, the only pot I had an issue with is a sealed concrete one, I though it being sealed would make it waterproof, but there was some mold issue at the bottom. All other normal glazed ceramic pot were totally fine!
