I'm all for wet sticks, but the price they're going for is beyond insane, especially because it is SUCH a gamble. I'd rather pay a buck more and get a cutting with a whole leaf and some roots. When I start selling my Albos(I'm setting up some mother plants right now) I will NOT sell cuttings and wet sticks for more than I'd be willing to pay for one myself. Everybody deserves as Albo, they're so much fun and should not be reserved for the elite.

omg I bough a nice cutting of monstera albo with a big leaf for 55 dollars in Europe. it rooted within 2 months and the first leaf was fenestrated. guys the prices in the US are too much. please make a video about it.

@robynlemley6651

The question about loosening the roots.. I'm all for loosening it. I've lost numerous plants due to not doing that. Its like the plant don't realize there's more room in the pot or something. When they're dead and you remove it, it's still in a root ball, even when it has been months.

in reference to wet sticks- something i’m currently working on is opening an online shop for more uncommon plants! plants where you may be lucky to find them at your local greenhouse, and others where you may have to purchase online! for example, some plants that are more difficult for me to get in my area- ANY scindapsus, “string of” plants, monstera of sorts- and plants that you’d have to buy online like specific philodendron/anthurium/alocasia. I’m slowly growing my collection so I can propagate these plants and sell them for lower prices than what is available on etsy/ebay/etc. I am so excited to get my plants growing so I am able to offer this by next summer hopefully!!! I don’t like the price gouging- it makes your dream plants seem unattainable when they TOTALLY ARE AND SHOULD BE.

Love that comment at the end- everybody supports the plant community as a great place but when you see it through the BST pages you’ll see a lot of sneakiness/I’m better than you attitude. The community isn’t as private anymore it’s becoming extremely saturated so the idea that the plant community is always perfect is going out the window, and a lot of unaware people are falling victim to it! Maybe a video on how to acknowledge good buyers and when to choose to buy a rare plant from someone

I can't say I'm passionate about it, but I use coco coir stakes, and my experience has been that I don't need to keep it wet. My monstera (plain old green) is growing like crazy, in winter, and whilst it appreciates something to climb, I think it's growing so well because I've put the aerial roots back in the soil. I also like the fact that coco coir is more sustainable.

For moss poles I use pvc pipes with holes drilled into it. I cap the bottom that goes into the plant before putting it into the pot, and cover it with sphagnum like a normal pole. Then when I need to water the plant I just pour the water down the tub and the sphagnum gets watered too!!

There are some plants that are "easy" to grow that I just can't keep alive. I have a 'three strikes you're out' rule, so if I fail 3 times, I'm done. I bought a gorgeous, huge jade plant, almost killed it, managed to propagate it, got about 8 little jade plants from it and planted them together. Within days it began to dye once again. I also fail at aloe. I'm basically a bad succulent mom and need to become a great succulent aunt.
@crochet4life331
@crochet4life331 4 года назад
Maybe you should water less cause in my experience succulent and cacti thrive on neglect just leave them in a well lit corner forget about them and you do remember they exist just water it but be careful not to over water or just water once every three weeks

@crochet4life331 4 года назад
@@Lisa222aries oh you use a moisture meter I was thinking buying one soon but If you water from the top than maybe try seeing if the soil sticks to you fingers when you touch it cause if it does it's not fully dry and if the plants in a plastic plant just pull the whole body if soil out (gently) to see if the soil is saturated also with succulent and cacti water them literally never and If you tend to helicopter parent your pants then water on a schedule

For loosening houseplant roots, I recently heard you can soak the bare roots in warm water and they'll relax. Have yet to try it
@notsurewhatisgoingon
@notsurewhatisgoingon 4 года назад
Yep, I've done that a number of times with great success. Especially for plants that are seriously root bound they tend to be kind of dehydrated since the roots overfilled the pot and prevented the ability to get properly hydrated. I've soaked large plants like my monster and a huge P. Hope for up to 24 hours and they REALLY perked up. I untangle what I can while removing as much soil as possible, place vertical cuts on 3 sides, and when I replant I use mycorrhizal fungi and water with fish fertilizer. It works so well I've not even had a single leaf drop and no stress with a big jump in growth.

This might seem like a nasty comment but none of these seem very controversial or even debates, just your choices on common experiences and trying to remind people to be sensible. I wish there were more plant RU-vidrs with horticultural training as I think half the questions would get answered from a place of knowledge which really seems to be lacking in the houseplant community. It seems like the same ideas go around and around without anyone taking the time to really learn and pass on information with some basis in deeper knowledge or experience. I think the debate with moss poles should really be around the environmental impact of the use of moss not really which you prefer stylistically or for growing purposes. I've been trying to minimise my use of moss for years but this was something that began quite a long time ago with the move away from using peat based compost.

Putting a comment like that with those strong words you must be the one gonna starts giving the knowledge then come on with it don’t judge if you ain’t gonna put your best foot forward and do the right thing by giving what you judging about k k and that’s my opinion k
@BeccaDeLaPlants
@BeccaDeLaPlants 4 года назад
Hey that’s really great feedback and I do appreciate that. I don’t see it as a nasty comment at all, there are definitely youtubers who take on the approach you’re hoping for - maybe try out houseplant journal if you haven’t already. Even (or especially) as hobbyists it’s important that we consider the environmental impacts of collecting as well as what is happening on a deeper level with our plants, I totally recognize that. This video wasn’t for that but I appreciate your comment because it reminds me that there is a need to sprinkle in fact-based knowledge as well as experience-based knowledge. This will definitely inform my content moving forward!
