I started gardening this year for the first time and simply cherish these informative videos! I learn so much and you make me feel like I can do it. I grew tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, butternut squash, parsley, dill, onions, beets, lettuce, and strawberries over the summer, and have started brussels sprouts, broccoli, lettuce, leeks, carrots, and spinach for the fall garden. Adding beets to the fall menu too - we loved them!

I'm in Indiana (Zone 6B) and sowed bunching onions in a grow bag about a month ago. I was able to give them partial shade (morning sun only) and they are now ready for harvest. We are still seeing highs around 90F and nights about 65F. I'm late getting my garlic cloves planted today. I'm hoping they pop up within the next 30 days and grow some strong tops before we get frosts next month. I've provisioned to put some row cover over them for a few months until they get sufficient top growth. It's too hot for lettuce here, but I've got new beds waiting for next month to direct sow.

My sister had a stroke and getting dementia and only me to care for her. So my farm animals, doing all her work and mine, well the garden suffered. But nice neighbors gave me enough cucumbers that I got all my hot sweet garlic pickles made (thanks for the idea) and tomatoes for salsa !! God is so good !!!

Love the tips 😂. I would like to know if you remove the entire sweetcorn plants or cut the plant right to his base. I have grown sweetcorn in the raised bed for the first time this year with 95% success. I am trying a no dig/permaculture for the past 2 years. So I am not sure about the sweetcorn situation 😅. Thank you

I usually cut the sweetcorn right down to the base, to ground level, leaving the roots in place to just rot down over the winter. This saves disturbing the soil.

Well it’s the last day of summer as we hit over 80*F only to turn over to fall and a huge drop in temps to 60s tomorrow the first day of fall. It will be welcomed in the upper Midwest, US as it’s been unbearably hot the last two weeks with drought. We are expecting rain this evening and tomorrow 🎉. I’ve had 45 day cauliflower that I’ve been trying to keep cool with shade fabric as we need to have most fall plants in by end of July or early August and the weather hasn’t cooperated. Maybe I will try some lettuce today now that the weather will cool off. It will be in the 70s with a bit more heat later next week. Not sure if we will have a cold winter as it seems to be increasing temps the last 2 years. If it wasn’t for the frosty early mornings I probably could grow to Christmas 😲.

I'm trying an autumn cropping variety for the first time this year (UK). They're called Luz de Otono and I believe they're the only variety to have tolerance to shortening days. I sowed them in late July and they're just starting to flower now. Opinions seem to vary on how hardy they are so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a mild autumn.
@GrowVeg

It's probably too late to sow them for a harvest this year. If you want to sow them for an early harvest next season, then I would delay sowing to about early November.

Spinach doesn't do good for me. I don't have the correct weather for it, here in north cebntral Alabama. However, New Zealand spinach loves heat and humidity. It grows like a weed. I need to make hoops, or frames for hanging netting for four of my raised beds. The netting is essential to keep the cats, and deer from destroying my garden. That is a project for later next month. The rattlesnake bite is respondiing to antibiotics. The color in my leg is looking much better, and the wound is starting to heal. I figure at least another three weeks before it is fully healed. I don't have the raised bed space for everything I'd like to grow, but I am still growing a lot, parsnips, carrots, beetroot, turnip, red cabbage, Duth cabbage, Nappa Cabbage, Swiss chard, Komatsuna, Tatsoi, Yellow Heart Winter Choy, Pak Choy, broccoli, and cauliflower. I'm still picking strawaberries, and peppers. In my herb garden, I have comfrey, rosemarey, parsley, chicory, oregano, lemon thyme, basil, spearmint, and peppermint growing. It, and my chickens, are enough to keep me busy for now. Nexy year, I'll have a little more space for growing in the fall season, a little over four square meters.
