I was born in Wayne County West Virginia. I am now 82 years old. When I was a child we always gathered plantain, especially spring, and cooked it like any other green family. If you don't pick it while it has young leaves, it will get tough, and will not cook tender, no matter how long you cook it. Here in Georgia, where I live now, it grows in different areas all over our yard. I did not know of all the health benefits. Thought it was just for eating. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting. My granny used to make a mess of dandelion greens every spring for a "purgative". See Yarrow's video on dandelions & benefits thereof. This knowledge is there but you might have to do some research.

Plantain is one of the plants I recommend everybody know. I have found using the whole leave for tooth abscess invaluable, just like you would for an infection on the outside of the body. 2nd daughter got between the dogs having a disagreement, and she got a slight nick on her leg from one of them, likely from a tooth, and it went septic, not to bad, but enough that it needed treatment. So I told here to put some plantain on it, but grandma would not hear of it, and took her to the emergency room, and they did test, annd antibiotics,and even eventually a MRI, and after untold fortune later they could still not get rid if the chronic infection. So I asked if they were ready to try some plantain, and 2nd daughter went out and got some out of the yard, and by the next day was the infection not only gone, but wound was actually noticeably healed.

Just found your channel, I'm hooked! I have a great memory of Plantain from my childhood 60+ years ago. After stepping on a bee and being stung a passing stranger asked my mother for permission to help. He did just as you did, took some Plantain from the yard, chewed it up and applied it to the sting. Relief was almost immediate. I of course thought it was magic! That old man I'm sure has passed on but I remember him like it was yesterday.

I've started spreading it for erosion control. My garden is on a slight slope; last big rain, all my nice woodchips washed out from the rows and spaces between the beds, rinsing away precious soil I'm trying to build - except where plantain was growing. The soil held together beautifully wherever even a small clump of plantain was. Since it stays low to the ground and is so useful, I'm going to encourage as much of it as I can instead of bringing in more woodchips.

Good video. I learned about plantain about 6 years ago and have been using it ever since. It's also a gear food source full of vitamins and minerals. It has all 18 amino acids and can be boiled in water to remove the tannins which are somewhat bitter. One interesting thing I've noted. Plantain is especially sensitive to herbicides. Whenever someone sprays their lawn with weed killer, plantain is the first to disappear. If you see a lawn that has other weeds in it but doesn't have plantain, those weeds have likely been sprayed and are more resistant. Don't eat any herbs from an area that has no plantain in it, because chances are high that they've been contaminated.

Rib wort grows well in semitropical Australia, Northern New South Wales for example. It grows well in rich humus soil also. Juice from the leaf will cause melanomas to dry up and drop off. It takes about a month. Squeeze out some juice once or twice a week, apply the juice to the melanoma 'wart or growth'. It works very well. ..Well... my children and i are learning about the Broadleaf Plantain Plant... Our yard is literally filled with this Awesome Plant, lots and lots of it, ..(with loads of Clover and Purple Dead Nettle, and Chickweed mixed in everywhere..) ....at the end of your video here, you got excited at all the plantain you came across.. and it tickled me so very much. Not only due to your excitement, but also the size of the Plantain.. it is quite small compared to the big and beautiful Plantains all over Our little hill here on the edge of the Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas.. ..so, i got excited and wanted to show you...some leaves big enough to hide all my spread out hand behind... i took pics for you, but I cannot share them here in the comments..so, ..shoot.. ...loving Your Channel...Keep up the Awesome Work!!! .BE GOOD.BE SAFE.BE HAPPY. ..if there is a way for me to share my pictures, and you want to see how abundant and Big and Awesome Our wild Plantain grows here, please share.. Thank You!!😁

Yes, clickable links to photobucket sounds like a good idea, however cluckable link sounds funny, something to chuckle about. Broadleaf plantain is a very nice invasive plant, part of a backyard medicine cabinet

Plantago major also gets rid of parasitic worms. It contains Caffeic acid, Chlorogenic acid, and Ferulic acid, which helps stop, and(or) slow cancer growth.

Plenty of it in my area here in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, including in my yard, uninvited. I ate the leaves, flowers, as salad, cooked vegetable, green juice and tea..grows in pavement cracks, street sides, sidewalks, ditched sides, open fields, plantation, cities, rural areas, etc..

Wow! Thank you! We moved to the countryside 3 months ago and have a huge yard completely colonized by plantain. We were thinking of having the landscaper in to establish a golf-like lawn. Forget about it! We will just trim our pharmacy every other week. My husband says he doesn't mind mowing the lawn. Thank you for the knowledge. Greetings from Montreal, Can.

Another good thing that anyone might have handy for burns is Soy sauce! Heard about it on The People's Pharmacy radio show and then used it on my husband when his thumb slipped off the hot pad when he was taking something out of the oven. He managed to hold on long enough to set the dish down, resulting in a 2nd almost 3rd degree burn! I poured some in a little dish, deep enough to cover and had him submerge his thumb until it quit hurting. It didn't even blister or peel! Next time I'm out camping though, Ill be keeping my eye out for beautiful beneficial Plantain!

For a third degree burn you still should see a doctor. I don’t care how effective it was as a disinfectant you need skin-grafts (unless you have powdered pig’s liver and a lot of stem cells to spare)
@joechilds9448
@joechilds9448 4 года назад
@@AnkhAnanku a doctor was seen and I said no to the skin graft as it's only a half dollar sized burn. Essential oils and plantain healed me just fine. I tend not to do what doctors say

I have known about plantain being helpful for the skin but until I saw your video I did not know that it was useful for stings. As it happens, today I had the opportunity to find out I was stung by a wasp. I promptly went outside and searched the lawn for some plantain, found a leaf, made a little herbal bandage for the spot and lo and behold it worked wonders. Thanks for this and all your videos. Very informative!!!

@@kellikelli4413 Lol, so do most people. I speak about the plantain by saying it is not the banana plant, but grows close to the ground in similar fashion to the dandelion. I tell people to look up the top ten edible weeds and make them into pesto cubes to freeze for winter!

I sliced my thumb open on a dirty pocket knife earlier this month. Probably would have been given a couple stitches. I made a poultice with coconut oil, plantain leaf, and honey, covered it with gauze and taped it closed. Replaced it every couple days (taping as best I could to keep my thumb in it's natural shape). It closed up in about a week. It's fully healed now, aside from a crease where the cut was and some scar tissue I've been slowly massaging out.
