Great job! I would love to see an update on your Hosta…I just got into Hosta this year, I assume your Hosta are beautiful since you planted them 2 years ago.
So nice weather with shorts and t-shirt🌞 Many lovely hostas. I love hostas, but I have not a single one in my garden. I have heard the slugs love them too. Looking forward to watch them in your garden this year.
Our climate is very dry so slugs aren’t as much of an issue here as they seem to be for other places. I’m really excited to see these hostas grow and fill in.
Love 4"-5" layer of compose 18"-24"deep with a 2" layers of your natural soil like layering a cake. Mouse ears only about 2" leafs but it's root grow over 12" a lot of root for it's size. I use a few tbls of espson salt around the dip line
I collected hosta for years and now have a beautiful bed of many different sizes and shapes. I can't remember all the names but I do have Frances Williams, Northern Lights, Drinking Gourd, Elvis Lives and the giant Elegans. They are great for hiding the mess from my bird feeder!
There are so many varieties with unique looks. I think sometimes hostas are overlooked, but they really can add wonderful interest and a lush look as they mature.
Great video thanks! I am getting a variety also from Costco and I’m worried about squirrels digging up and eating the bulbs. Do you have this problem and what do you do about it? Would love to have a shade garden full of Hostas!
Sorry I can’t be of help but this is not an issue I deal with. My only suggestion would be to pin chicken wire over the planting area and pull it up as the hosta breaks dormancy.
I am curious, what do you use to fertilize your hostas? I have always added compost but was told recently that I should be fertilizing them now in the spring for the best performance!
When I fertilize my hostas, it is with whatever all purpose fertilizer I have laying around. I really don't fuss over them. If they get a fertilizer treatment it is often in the spring as they are emerging and I'm doing my other perennials and shrubs. I find hosts hardy and undemanding.
@@PrairiePlantgirl thanks! In the US videos it looks like everyone uses Espoma fertilizers, I am trying to find something comparable here in manitoba. Organic Miracle Grow, organic Jobe, Green Gaia…. I need something all purpose for my hydrangeas, lilacs, hostas, etc.
Really enjoy your videos. Such good advice for all of us prairie girls. This one was especially on point for me as I am wanting to get some more hostas planted this spring,
