Does anyone else, go plant shopping, find something they love, bring it home, and THEN pull up Jim's page to find out what to do with it? He's never steered me wrong yet! Thanks for all of your knowledge you share.
Nope. I do my research sitting on the floor at the garden center. Out of the way, of course. Sometimes sitting in the display furniture (recently this huge egg-shaped chair)😂😂
I pull up his videos while I’m at the garden center. 😆 His two minute ones, especially on his Garden Plants with Jim Putnam have been an invaluable resource. 👍
Big difference with painting the foundation. Very nice choice of colors. Everything looks clean and crisp. You’ve created a little gem on that property.
Always good to remind people yo know where their gas, electric, and water lines are in the yard before just digging away! I’ve found that where I want to put a plant either has a problem like a line or too much or not enough sun!🌿 Happy Easter🐣
Omg Stephanie I’ve been there so often! I’ve got lines going everywhere through my yard. It’s scary. I still plant things but it’s forced me to scratch many plans out. My backyard is filled with lines that are only just buried maybe three inches deep at most and any time I dig out there I have to use a weed how to uncover the top before I could dream of using a shovel. I’m jealous of people that can use shovels in their yards lol
Just went to the perennial plant opening at our local nursery, took my neighbor. She's got lots of areas to plant and I'm here for it! Nice selections Jim!
Lol, I am engaging in some clever competition with my neighbor to see who can get more pollinators! We steal each other's ideas, and share plants back and forth, so it gives a feeling of cohesion! Gonna see if I can get her to do a sunflower height and flower size competition/comparison, as well!
We have a boatload of daffodils put in by the previous owners. After planting a shrub last fall halfway on top of a bunch of bulbs I realized that it was time to actually mark them as JP suggested.
I see either the neighbors or more likely their landscaping services drop down several inches of mulch at a time, usually the black-dyed mulch made from non-virgin hardwoods. It may the reaction to protect the ground from extreme temperatures here in Central Texas, but it still seems wrong. The volcano mulch piles on trees is definitely wrong.
I really enjoy watching you plant new shrubs and your house looks great. When you were talking about the Romeo clyara( not sure of spelling) in the corner of house you were in front of a hydrangea. Can you show us when you start developing the flower buds on it. I faithfully covered mine zone 7b this year because the frost took out my blooms in the past. It seems like forever since mine bloomed so I hoping it will bloom this year. Thank you for sharing and being so detailed about your plants. And thank you Steph for your camera work. Hi Holly!
It's amazing how you just can't part with a favorite old tool. I have the same issue. Enjoyed the video and I always learn something from you! Thanks, Jim!
Great chair and lovely foundation color. Everything is looking great! Pittosporums remind me of my childhood. It seems they were everywhere years ago. They are pretty plants. I need one.
Thanks for your gardening tips, ideas and process. Its inspiring especially as a caribbean gardener. 🌼🌾🌽We share some plants like pentas , lantana , zinnias and hibiscus. ❤ Looking forward to sprucing up as the season gets hotter.☀️
Lovely day here in northern Arizona.. 40 mph winds and a bunch of rain coming in a few hours 😢 Thanks to Jim for giving me a lovely tutorial to distract me. 😂
Well, a wren decided to nest in my soaker hoses which are hung up in the potting shed. It looks LOVELY, but she frightens me every time I forget to announce my entrance. 😂
Is there a calculation for soaker hose length and diameter? Our lemon tree is 6 FT high by 10 FT across. We have other trees, both fruiting and ornamental.
My grandma had two of those chairs also painted black on her front porch when I was a kid. It’s really going to pop against the blue of your house, which if I haven’t told you already, I love! It’s been such a delight to be part of this channels community over the last three and a half years. Just to see the transformation of your house and garden has been the best.
Love this type of video! The garden is looking beautiful! I love all the different greens and plant shapes! I garden in the northwest… suburb of Vancouver, Canada and my beds are so wet from all the rain… hard to garden at this time. I’m doing mostly cleanup as I’ve been away all winter in Thailand. Keep up the great work, Jim and Stephanie! 😎🇨🇦
I just found a bunch of Leucothoe on new family property. I took a picture to do a Google image search to identify it and the only reason I could even pronounce it was because I'd heard you talk about it!
I'm very tempted to try that Golden Falls Redbud here in Southern California. We've actually been relatively cool the last two years, but it's a roll of the dice.
I REALLY NEED HELP IMPROVING MY CLAY SOIL. I KEEP BUYING MULTIPLE PRODUCTS , THEN GET CONFUSED AND DO NOTHING!! PLEASE HELP KAREN. Thank you. Love you're down to earth personality and make it easy to watch. I get distracted very easily. I end up watching you for HOURS!! Ive gotten older and having a hard time keeping up. My eyes are bigger than what I can handle. Arthrritis is killing me. I use to work 8 hours at a time. Now Im exhausted after 2 hours. I live in MD. TRISTATE AREA BETWEEN DELAWARE, MD. and PENNSYLVANA
Cleyera don't get enough attention. I abused my Bigfoot and Juliet for almost 18 month in the pots. Once planted, they settled into the ground immediately and are now thriving.
I’ve been trying to find a Juliet cleyera since I saw Jim plant this one but I can’t find one anywhere! Hopefully there will be more availability on these soon. 🙏🏻🤞🏻🙂
Question! When you say “great plant for the South” are you referring to your humid/hot weather specifically, or would you actually be including any area that’s zone 7 and up? Would plants that are “great for the South” also great for me here in zone 8b, Western Oregon? Thanks!
Hey Jim…I am in Michigan (zone 6a)..I have an older established red bud and the big roots have migrated out into the yard and of course, my flower bed. If I am digging to plant a new shrub or flowers, and I run into those big roots, is it okay to saw them out of there? Does it depend on the size? Thanks…..love you guys!
Hi Jim, where can I purchase an Eastern Red Bud? Also do you have any idea why my Chinese Snowball viburnum only has a few blooms on lower branches? I did cut it back in the Fall.
I did not know I will need to stake my golden falls. I dont think it's too late bc I just planted them in the fall. How do I keep staking higher as the tree grows higher than I can reach? Will I need help with a ladder? Are there any size or type of stakes I should try to get? I wonder the same about my Gold Drift bc I guess it will bend over as soon as it's height exceeds that of the stake. Thank you. 🤔
Hey Jim, any idea or recommendations on where to purchase either the Romeo or Juliet Cleyera? I can’t seem to find it locally the past few yrs and I’ve been looking for it as a mail order this yr and still finding it out of stock. If you have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated 👍 Btw, nice to see someone else tuck a variegated shrub in the background of a landscape bed👍👍👍
