We love watching your videos we have been back and watched them all I even found my 5 year old watching you today whilst she's poorly in bed 😆. Definitely helping us start our growing journey
If you are keeping it in the tunnel have you considered a different variety? Variety / flavour subjective of course but my view is that Brown Turkey is very hardy, thus common in UK, but if under cover then the less hardy French varieties have better flavour and texture. The earlier ripening varieties may be better suited to UK. The ones I have in the greenhouse are Rouge de Bordeaux and White Marseilles; they came from DeaconsNurseryFruits - currently £15-£18
Hi Steve hope your well, that was really interesting, I was given a fig from a neighbour and your idea about growing the laterals is one I’m going to copy 😀 stay safe and have a good week, David 👍👍
I planted my brown turkey fig here in North shropshire 5 years ago as a 9 inch rooted cutting, I put it in a 1 metre square metal container and just used a mix of 75 % turf and 15 % compost. Its now 10 feet tall and we have already picked 27 fruits with at least another 15 + nearly ready for picking this year. This is grown in a south south west facing corner with a 7 foot wall behind it It will take all weather's. Best of luck with yours though I would plant outside. Bye the way I also have one growing in middle of the garden gets frosted every year and still fruits prolificly
Looking forward to seeing your fig tree grow! How wonderful that it's a cutting from a 30 yr old tree! I have never tried growing a fig, but I do have a sunny spot on a south-facing brick wall that might suit one?
I was given a fig too off my sister-in-law and have put it into a 30L tub too. It's in my fruit cage, can I ask you Steve, what do I need to feed it with, when and will it cope with the Winter? Thanks for the video too, take care 🙂
