Your presentation style is so engaging and easy to follow that it feels like we're having a conversation rather than watching a lecture! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us in such an accessible way.

You know it would be nice to see what your describing using a map. Give us a diagram of structures, creek, boundaries, ect.

Agree. Admit I am confused about Tim’s land boundaries

I would imagine there are privacy concerns to sharing the field pattern as it would be much easier to “find” on a map. But I also work better from top down plans.

Hi Tim, it’s worth having your plants protected in bags right upto the point of planting. The wind can kill roots off in seconds. It looks alive as you plant but if the roots have been burned it can be a frustrating waste of time. Looks awesome, in 10 years you’ll be doing a hedgelaying video!

It's great to see you've planted oak. People dont seem to olant it much these days, which is so sad. The hedging is looking amazing, especially with trees dotted around. Im a huge tree fan. 🌳 Happy Christmas to you all.

I suggest that if you have any mineral bucket or any plastic bucket lids, that you ask your neighbour may you cable tie them to the inside of his wire so that the hedgecutter operator will know to avoid cutting your trees. An informative video thank you. 👍 up

you can rabbit proof effectively by scattering blood and bone fertilizer at the base of the hedging. They hate it and run for miles

I was about to comment on why Maggie was on a leash, now I fully understand. Well done, stay safe, a merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all.

Going to your local recycling center, ask them to hold larger card board boxes for munching might help. The ones used to transport large fridges, TVs or white goods appliances are best good under wood chips too.

I can remember volunteer planting bare rooted hedging through (I think) polythene sheet over 30 years ago. Only in recent years have I seen hedges planted between stock fencing, mainly on Butterfly Conservation farm visits. How does that affect cutting back in autumn/winter? Locally, hedges also include Mirabelle Plums and Guelder Rose.

I heard those spirals act as a bit of a poly tunnel effect , as well . I know you’ll keep up to these but a lot of saplings you see on bankings etc die off . Think big companies get paid to plant but not look after , ie mulch . Water , check for damage to spirals etc . I planted hawthorn around my garden (absolute postage stamp To what you have ) a few years ago and they have done really well. Good luck with it all , merry Xmas. God bless

That hedge you want laid, once sided up plenty of room to work in there! Providing it’s midland style ofcourse, double brush might be abit more tricky to work with but can be done just slower.

Good to know. At least no barbed wire to work against too. Leave it a few years and see when it’s ready to do. 👍

The alders and hornbeam trees grow at a fast pace,about two feet per year..

I planted some Alders near a stream and they probably grow up to about 4ft a year. They love wet ground and river banks.

Yeah alders grow like weeds here, especially along the banks of the brook. Unfortunately they seem to suffer with big damage which together with the woodpeckers means we loose a few each year.

Hi Tim,we've got 22 acres 5 fields,,boundary fence is ok...no fencing with internal hegdes to divide fields.....just wondering is there any good government grants to help with funding fencing and hedge planting......great videos..

CS grants will do both BN11 hedge grant and FG2 fence to protect it.

For every metre do you plant six different varieties or two or three of the same?
@diyfarm
@diyfarm 7 месяцев назад
70% hawthorn, the rest is made up of crab apple. dog rose, blackthorn, field maple all randomly mixed in to make up to 6 a metre 👍

Just out of interest (no specifics that give location away) how many acres are you working with in total? Presuming more than 12 if you have PD rights
