Here's how we plant potatoes, there are lots of different ways and styles and so long as you get potatoes I don't feel any of them are wrong! This way works best for us and we get hundreds of pounds of potatoes each year using this planting method.

Great video. I'm new to growing potatoes, what is the purpose of the straw? Is it for weed control, or to keep moisture in the mounds, or something else?

Thanks for watching. We use the straw for multiple things. One weed control. Two we are on a well so I have to be mindful of my water usage so the straw helps keep things moist longer. Three as potatoes grow sometimes even though I have mounded up around them they will push up to the surface so the straw helps keep them covered and away from the sun light if potatoes are not covered they will get green sides and those can be dangerous to eat so keeping them covered is a must and the straw really helps with that
