Love that Jason said how happy he was just being there working on the project and listening to the birds! Also loved and agreed with Casey liking her neighbors yet loving having a private sanctuary 😊

We planted these for a quick barrier between our house and our 1200 head hog nursery. They worked beautifully and we took many cuttings from them. Unfortunately an ice storm several years ago damaged them and they never were the same again. They got very twiggy and dropped a lot of small branches whenever the wind would blow. We left some by a grove of established trees, and are replacing others in our house yard with Colorado Spruce. I love your garden space, and hope you have good luck with your willows.

You have such a beautiful place to call home! The fields are a pretty view too. We had three Dappled Willow shrubs that we loved but they got way too huge for the spot so eventually had to remove them after years of pruning seasonally. I miss them though!

Jason and Casey, I love having privacy around my yard, especially since I live in town. I'm curious, have you ever planted curly willow branches that you can purchase from the floral department? They root just as easily and are great to use indoors for decor or floral arrangements. If you haven't, why not try a few stems (they're inexpensive), it might be a fun thing to do. Have a fun week ahead! ~Margie🌞🌿🦋

Yes you can, they don’t get very wide, and you can prune/cut branches every spring to shape them the way you want

So we just bought 36 acres, and I want to plant a privacy screen along a county road so the neighbors aren't tempted to hunt our land. 🙂 But we'll only be going out there every couple of weeks. So we can't water daily. Is this possible for them to grow only being watered at this frequency?

@TheLawrenceGardenFarm
@TheLawrenceGardenFarm 18 дней назад
Hybrid Willows, they grow 6 to 8 feet per year and they get to be 30 to 40 feet
@mts7274
@mts7274 4 месяца назад
Can hybrid willow cuttings be planted 10-12 inches apart? It's hard to get a consistent answer on this. Some say close together is best for a tall "fedge", while others say they should only be planted 3-5ft apart.
@TheLawrenceGardenFarm
@TheLawrenceGardenFarm 4 месяца назад
closer keeps them as a nice fence, but one of our favorite areas is where we have them spaced 4-6 feet. the reason for this is because of how we started the tree cuttings. we put 3-4 cuttings together, and they got huge! space allows the tree to bush out more rather than just go straight up and narrow. you can trim them like a bush too. anywhere you cut they keep growing from. A great idea is to plant a row where they are 2-4 feet apart, but then doing a row behind staggered. This will give you more winter coverage. Because in winter, when they have no leaves, one row is easy to see through. I hope this helps. They’re like weeds, so there’s really no right or wrong way. the best coverage over all though is the staggered double row

I have a French drain 20 feet away from where I'd like to plant these hybrid willows. Do you think the roots would travel that far? I know I wouldn't want to plant a willow tree that close to the French drain, but I don't know about the roots of these hybrid willows.

Is a willow tree different from a willow whip? I know the whips are just cuttings but is the actual tree just a plain willow tree?

Whips are just baby trees, and willows are the easiest to root🌿🌿

I would mulch around those trees to smother the grass surrounding them. They will steal water and nutrients from those tiny trees and they won't do as well...

They are called hybrid willows, the willow you are referring to is called a weeping willow, the hybrid willows look more like a normal deciduous tree, the branches do not weep down
