Crop plants maintain a "rhizosphere", or a concentrated area of microbial activity close to the root. The rhizosphere is the most active part of the soil ecosystem because it is where the most readily available food is, and where peak nutrient and water cycling occurs. Microbial food is exuded by crop roots to attract and feed microbes that in turn provide nutrients (and other compounds) to the plant at the root-soil interface where the plants can take them up. Since living roots provide the easiest source of food for soil microbes, growing long lived roots that feed the foundation species of the soil food web as much as possible during the growing season should be a goal of farmers seeking a productive and profitable crop. Roots associated with SWRT membranes have been shown to last all season long, contributing greatly to the improvement of soil quality because they have the nutrients and moisture they need.

Looks like a good system. I'm thinking of transitioning out of some of my greenhouses. Believe it or not it's getting too hot here in Northern Maine mid year and i can't justify the cooling/ventilation fan cost to run tomatoes.

We are living in cold area snow fall area. Now the temperature 10 to -5 we cannot cultivate up 15 of April Maximum temperature of the area is 35 in June and July. My Question is that should I use only Black Mulch or Gray and Black Mulch (Double Coated). In the hot weather I mean June and July the Maximum temp is 35 in my village and in night temperature is 15 to 20 C. In this condition multi coated I mean gray and Black mulch will not affect the crops. We are living in dry zone area. The crepe session is 15 April to 15 October. We use for Tomato crop kindly answer these three Questions. 1. What kind of mulch should I use No1 Black No 2 Black and Gray. 2. What micron should I use for summer session for the period of 15 April to 15 October? 3. How much water is saved while using Mulching compare open drip irrigation?
