Tulips
Yellow Violas
Care for tulips after they’re done blooming (if they’re a perennial in your area): Trim bloom stalk off at base of plant, when foliage starts to yellow and die back- trim foliage off at soil level, pop bulbs out of container, dig a hole 6” deep in landscape, add 1 tsp. Espoma BulbTone, and plant bulb, water in, and they should bloom for you next season!

When I turned sixty my parents brought over some pretty pink tulips, I planted them up in my landscape six years ago and they still come back every year. A wonderful memory of my parents now both gone!

Well, keep your expectations in check. Remember what happened to all the bulbs Laura planted by the gazebo? Damned gophers. Let's hope they didn't find the enormous batch she planted behind the potting shed or the other spreads she planted by the kitchen and out by the old scrubby lilac bush (where the "thug" violas were finally rooted out). :)

I am a beginner. I'm so glad I found your channel. I just love plants and flowers but never had the guts to really do on my own. My houseplants are doing well and it has been so therapeutic. I'm going to venture out with pots outside. LOL. Bought tulip sprouts from walmart today. some even have 3 plants the container. Pray for me girl! LOL I'm in zone 7 by the way. Wish I lived near you so I could get all your hand-me-down pots LOL.

One of the best items I love about spring is looking forward to keeping areas in bloom year round. I find that buying bulbs in fall is the best for the plant however I really like buying them in spring as they are often much chaper in spring just cause nurseries are trying to get rid of them. Then just store them for next fall.

Our local garden store has tulips as well at a good price. I can't put them outside yet (Ontario Canada) but eventually I will plant them in my garden. Love the urns, especially the Violets

To remove that dirt off of the planter: I let the soil dry a little, then I use an old hair dryer, put it on low & cool & gently blow dirt off the pot when it's dry. If any dirt is hard to remove, I use an old toothbrush to loosen the dirt, then blow it away.

E I wonder if lamenting that I hadn’t planted any tulips this fall and so now it’s spring and I have none to bring to the deck. How great you know I can go get them already started and a pop them up in a pretty packed and have them on the deck thank you that was very encouraging.

Sandy Robinson: In a climate with a winter, that's the time of year to plant the Dutch bulbs, such as tulips. So it's the winter cold which is when they grow their roots, & form leaves & buds within the bulb, to emerge in Spring. Have fun planting your spring bulbs!!

@@sandyrobinson1650 So you can plant tulips, narcissus, crocus, hyacinths & other such Dutch bulbs in the spring there - & they bloom right away? I'm puzzled. I never knew this. I have seen the occasional store that sells flowering Dutch bulbs in spring, but believed those were being sold in the wrong season due to the store owner not knowing their error. I am confused. Are they are the bulbs which bloom in summer, like Gladiola, Oriental Lillies, Cala Lilies, Canna, Tuberrose - Dahlias, Dutch Iris, Anemone, Begonias, which are actually rhizomes? Is that what you mean? These are tender bulbs & rhizomes, which can be planted in the spring in my Z5, but most must be lifted & stored over winter, before the frost comes.

Our Mother’s Day in Australia is in May and that’s the time we usually plant our bulbs for spring flowering in September. My comments were just meant to indicate that we have another six months before we can enjoy what Laura is starting to enjoy now. 🌷
