Anubias is one of the most popular types of aquarium plants because of they’re extremely easy care, ease of growth, and are quite lovely to look at among our fish and shrimp. Anubias are one of the top recommended live plant choices for anyone, beginner or pro. Naturally found in parts of Africa, Anubias are a green, hardy plant that is extremely tough and nearly impossible to kill.
They come in a wide range of sizes, styles and shades of green, and they’re very easy to plant and let grow, pretty much on their own. And bonus for those of us with a nano aquariums, they even come in dwarf sizes (var. petite). Anubias are able to easily adapt to new environments and are capable of handling a wide range of conditions within an aquarium.
Depending on the variation you choose, they can stay short at around 2-3 inches or they can grow up to 16-inches in height, at a much slower rate than many other plants. It’s easy to propagate too so you can start with a small amount and gradually grow it throughout your tank.
Adding plants to an aquarium can be daunting for beginners because it is yet another thing that needs to be looked after. The good news is this species can survive most mistakes that beginners might make. Anubias can be planted in the substrate or attached to decorations, as long as the rhizome is not covered. This lets you add them wherever you want.
Anubias prefers moderate lighting and requires little to no additional fertilization. When planting the Anubias, take care of the rhizome and the roots, making sure not to cover the rhizome completely.
