I use a good squirt of olive oil, dish liquid, and 70% rubbing alcohol in a 1ltr spray bottle and fill with water, shake well each time you use it. Your plants should look shiny, if not add more olive oil. My alocasia love it and it keeps the bugs away.
It sucks that you are battling spider mites so much. The Pink Dragon is probably my second easiest alocasia after my Regal Shield. I hope yours comes back.
Yeaaa I had to buy another Sinuata, the first wasn’t doing well in soil, switched to semi hydro, it went dormant, dropped all its leaves, next spring it came back but was never happy, then poof, gone 🤷♀️ wish me luck with the new one, in chunky soil, moss on the soil layer… Lexi says it’s playtime!!! 😂😂 That Siberian Tiger must be related to the Zebra ya? They look identical to me
My experience with alocasia they do not like to be enclosed in anything glass and they do not like to be constantly wet even with the fluval so I let it start to get pretty dry and then wet it again but never keep it in lots of water with fluval cuz it will still rot so I've mixed fluval with pon and have much more success in rehabbing but I've just been finding with my alocasia they really like to be a little bit more dry and then get a good watering even when you're rehabbing Roots will rot fast. Always put it in something with lots of air flow.
Thanks for the tips. I do have several Alocasias in no drainage, but I do have to be extra careful with watering with those. But I do think I put too much water in the sinuata jar.
Lexi is so cute. I finally threw out my Alocasia Mickey Mouse, I didn’t love it and it kept getting spider mites. I had a pink dragon also and it’s never had spider mites, but it gets thrips all the time.
Ja I’m really starting to think they are just duds and it’s the genes. My mom’s Mickey Mouse was smaller than mine and it’s huge. The pink dragon has been a pain since day one.
