It was a sad December for me and my brother Dan, and for many in the folk community. Our dear friend, mentor, and fellow musician David Surette passed away. This is one of the first tunes that Dan (featured here on guitar!) learned from David. It's an Irish tune, Planxty Fanny Power, written by Irish harpist Turlough O'Carolan. We recorded it in honor of David and I wanted to share it with you all.

Thank you for sharing, theres nothing better then Carolan's music written from above. I stopped counting how many times i played this song now on guitar. Once this melody is in your ear you cant get it out of the head 🥰

I was learning this today on my concertina and couldn't quite remember the key, so upon a quick You-tube search up pops this lovely version. Well played Liz and Dan and a fitting tribute to your friend and mentor David.

This is great. This is different from the way Fanny Power was taught to me, now I have more colors in the pallette to play with on that tune. It's definitely the same tune.

Hi Iain.... No, it is traditionally played in the Key of 'G'.... He is just adding extra notes to fit the melody, from within the basic chords. It was written a LONG time ago, by a blind Irish Harpist, by the name of Turlough O’Carolan....
