During one of the spine cases I was working our team lost a 6 inch long 1/4 inch drill bit. They started the final count when they were starting to close and they had 8 different people count. We spent an extra 2 hours looking for it. We xrayed the pt to try and find it, nothing. We have no idea where it went. We also have lost nerve patties and sponges. Thank god they were all found and the pts were fine. Scary, but found

@@triciac1019 Doing their jobs the way they're supposed to isn't remarkable. Keeping a list of all items used on the patient and then counting them afterwards is standard practice. If a nurse fails to do that (or whoever has been assigned the job) that's negligence, and if a nurse says something is missing it would be ridiculous for the surgeon to ignore them.

For anyone curious, Gina did sue the Dr. who gave her the injections in a $17M case for malpractice/causing her pain, disfigurement, etc that ended up settling in her favor for an undisclosed amount. That doctor ended up closing two separate practices, but has since reopened another and her license has never been revoked. When I was growing up, there were multiple instances of omissions on my chart regarding things I brought up to the doctor that they ignored. The most notable was when a kid twice my size fell on me when I was 14 (I'm very small) and I felt something wrong with my rib (sharp pains and couldnt take deep breaths). I was in dance at the time, and my mom scheduled an appointment with a specialist to look at my rib and knees. They brushed off the rib saying theres no way anything could have happened... 4 years later I dropped out of dance due to spine pain and couldnt turn my head or bend my spine and one day when I carried in the groceries something happened in my back where I suddenly couldnt walk or move without EXTREME pain. Turns out I had a partial dislocated rib (it was turned) which was pulling on my spine and causing muscle spasms. When we tried to go after the doctor who ignored it, their records showed no signs of me going in for my rib AND knees. Only my knees. Luckily, my pregnancy last year actually fixed it a bit by pushing it more or less back into place - until then I had to be very careful about posture and continue to stretch daily to maintain mobility. While in the womb my son would lean against my bad rib whenever I was laying down and his slowly increasing body weight pushed it back gently enough not to cause pain or damage. My baby boy truly is a miracle for me! 🥰

Some doctors don’t listen to concerns. I had it happen too. It was a blood clot in my leg and the doctor kept telling me I didn’t have a blood clot and I insisted so he sent me for a scan and there was a blood clot in my leg which potentially could kill me.
@chippychin
@chippychin Год назад
@@u4riahsc I have had several blood clots in my life, starting at 18 (I have a blood disorder). Last year I had pneumonia, which was followed by a pain in my leg. My lung Dr listened to me when I said it feels like a clot (pneumonia can cause clots), and he sent me to get an ultra sound. The ultra sound tech was very distracted, even talking on the phone at one point. When she finished, I said you didn't do an area behind my knee. She said it was fine, and sent me out. I'm not a bold person so I left, and waited for result, which came back negative. That was Friday. Over the weekend the pain became very serious, and Monday I went to the emergency, where they did an ultra sound. The man didn't do the whole leg, so this time I got bold and pushed back a little. He said I'm quite confident with my results. I was so busy being crushed I missed the hint in his demeanor. I went back to the bed and cried. A bit later the Dr came back and said I had a clot that ran from my lower shin to well above my knee. Because that woman didn't look in that area she missed a tiny little clot that turned into a monster that has forever changed my life. Clots never fully go away, they leave scars.

The gauze situation happened to my mom. Her orbital bone was badly broken ( a while different story ) so she had to have surgery. While outwardly she healed, the pain kept increasing. Then, the area suddenly started swelling again. After 4 months of going back and forth from the surgeons office, the E.R. and the dentist, (she was told that it must be dental pain), not sleeping, barely eating, ans in extreme pain, she called the surgeons office, yet again, in tears. They said they would review her chart and get back to her. As she was hanging up, she even heard them saying she was just trying to get pain meds 3 days later, they demanded that she come in right that minute. She told them that she was on her way to the E.R. again and was only 10 mins from there vs. coming to them, 45 mins in the opposite direction. When she asked if they could just call ahead to the E.R. or tell her what needed to be told to them, they said that she needed to come there and nowhere else. Immediately. Once she got there and they saw how much weight she had lost within 2 weeks, how swollen her face was and that she looked ready to fall over, their demeanor had totally changed. They were suddenly very nice and gentle, with an air of walking on egg shells, but still wouldn't tell her what was going on. When the doctor came in, he told his assistant that my mom was going to feel some pulling but that it was normal. Then, he proceeded to pull this long ass gauze out of my mom's check, from inside her mouth. He just kept pulling like a damned magician's scarf. They had left a 5'+ long strip of packing gauze in her face! She said it was foul and obviously covered in purulent goo. The doctor hurriedly irrigated the area, wrote a script for antibiotics and painkillers (my mom hates pain meds) and got the he'll out of there Saying, as he left the room, to get her out of there. She said he didn't meet her eyes or speak directly to her even once! She was left sitting, mentally spinning and in pain. Only the nurse looked at and spoke dirrectly to my mom. She quietly apologized for her ordeal and explained to her what had happened. She also advised my mom to get her records a.s.a.p. and to take legal action. 2 weeks later, once my mom was feeling somewhat better, she went to get her records. All it said was that she had the surgery 6 months before, that she was still having pain at her check-up, and that she needed antibiotics that resolved the issue at her next check-up. Lies on lies on lies. They didn't 'lose' her records but they sure as hell scrubbed them clean.

Dr. Youn didn't stress enough how crazy this is in the modern day. In ORs today there's a whiteboard with all the instruments, gauze etc used in the surgery, and we do MULTIPLE counts of gauze specifically to make sure we take out what we put in. Surgeons also usually check an area pretty thoroughly before they close up. The fact that every failsafe was somehow bypassed tells me that someone was either incompetent or not interested in doing their job

A family friend had open heart surgery when I was 10 or 12. She ended up getting a mrsa infection had to be reopened up and cleaned out etc. After a while she felt something in her chest and eventually it started poking her skin. At a checkup the Dr ended up removing a piece of wire that had been left inside her chest. Attorneys said it was unlikely she could win a case. Apparently a man had the wrong leg amputated and lost that lawsuit (idk how that’s possible) so the attorney didn’t feel her case had a chance. It’s wild what Drs get away with.

The best thing you can ever do is write a review wherever the doctor has listed their name looking for people to practice on. Unfortunately if you settle a lawsuit out-of-court you usually have to sign a NDA and your family is included. However it doesn't stop you from saying the truth which is I went to this person and I ended up with a facial injury. Reiterate that all skin is different & ask the doctor what can be done that doesn't require fillers injections surgery etcetera so that you age naturally. If they don't want to work with you in a natural setting than they aren't worth their practice. This can get you around the NDA and gives you the opportunity to tell it like it was for you. It'll possibly make people think twice. If you have a great friend like mine she posted on line because I did end up having a severe medical accident that left me on oxygen since a 25yr old twit didn't believe the MRI from the previous hospital. She went online & left a review stating that she was best friends with a patient who was left on life support for the rest of her life since this guy didn't listen to me for a year to my complaints about my feeling like I was walking through water. It turned out that my asthma had become increasingly worse and I also had walking pneumonia for a year which turned into full-blown 5 lobe infectious viral or bacterial pneumonia and she explained everything. She left her name so she could be contacted and she didn't care because I didn't sue and I didn't sign an NDA as I was too ill to do anything for 7 years. It was with a vicious HMO that waits till you die to settle & basically I was so sick I couldn't think at all. Sadly the statute of limitations ran out before I was able to rehab myself well enough to do anything about it which is just within the last 6 months.

I had a lot of issues with my right ear as a child, it was painful, I had chronic ear infection, couldn't hear well. Several doctors saw me, my mum would give me meds, put eardrops in my ear, etc... nothing worked. Until one day we saw a doctor in a small village where we were staying for vacation, and he told my mum "I'm gonna try something a bit risky but I hope it helps". He shoved a long pair of tweezers down my ear and removed a big mass that was yellow and "infected". Turns out a baby-sitter cleaned my ears with q-tips and didn't notice that a piece of cotton stayed behind. As time passed it retained everything: water from the pool, shampoo, eardrops etc... I was instantly relieved. It's crazy the damage a tiny foreign object can cause!

So I grabbed and pulled and out came a piece of window glass that had been in my back for over 40 years! So yes, they do close wounds with debris still in there! I was very concious of making sure I felt the tag hanging out. 2nd visit a NP packed the site, doc was on vacation, she hurt me doing it so hard, pushed it in so far that a few days later it had closed over the gauze. I was then told I didn't take care of it property and they put in a new incision. I had a gut feeling it was still in there though. My sister was cleaning and changing My dressing and pulled out the old gauze. Put it in a bag and brought it with me as proof....doctor was quiet....no one apologized though...I know they would have found it during the surgery, but being told the gauze just "fell out" when I spoke my concerns

All that she went through was truly a traumatic, preventable situation and even though she went through much, it's amazing to me how her body reacted and that she didn't get sepsis. Maybe, she did but just said infection idk. I had sepsis from a kidney stone lodged in my bladder and in two days became so sick I had emergency surgery to drain the infection in my bladder&kidney area. What a strong woman physically and emotionally bcuz her body reacted in a terrible way but that could've been deadly from infection. @@NanaD-ve9tt Here’s another thing that can happen with loculation, because it happened to me. Four months after abdominal surgery, I suddenly became septic. Although no cause was found, the doc thought it could have been related to the surgery, and the surgical infection loculated, but then burst open four months later, causing a large amount of bacteria to enter my bloodstream. My only symptom was a precipitous drop in BP to 80/50. I was on the verge of passing out. I had a friend drive me to ER. I ended up on IV antibiotics for five days in hospital.

That's because it wasn't infected. Sepsis occurs when bacteria enter the bloodstream. For bacteria to enter the bloodstream, there has to be an infection. The gauze was sterile. I don't think the colleague is the one who left the gauze in her cheek because if he was merely giving her injections, I don't think he would have had any reason to perform any surgery on her. I will tell you a better one than that. The Civil War was not fought over slavery, but states rights. Slavery was just the issue at the time that brought states rights to mind. These state generated statues of limitation should be illegal. They are certainly immoral. Federal law should prevail. Since this can potentially be a matter of life or death; the federal government should not be able to impose a statue of limitations either. There are no statues of limitation on murder is there? This is going to become a Supreme Court case. I can tell. It is going to happen. Another thing. There are all these smart-ass naysayers that say oh you shouldn't legislate from the bench. Oh really? Well Congress is a circus if you ask me. The executive branch is influenced by their cronies. Such important rights as abortion was left to a single Supreme Court case with no recourse if the make up of the court changed because the members were replaced by the new incoming president and vacancies were open because of age, disease, death, retirement. So we are left with a Constitutional amendment for what is important. Even that is no guarantee. So we all need to fly the American flag upside down and backwards and at half staff as a sign of international distress. All citizens need to pursue and claim political asylum in their own country and garner international protection from their government and the protection of the federal government at the same time or "secede" from the Union without being considered a traitor. The state of Texas can legally do it and so can liberal ass California. Confused by now? You should be. I am the worst nightmare of both liberals and conservatives: I am more rare than a unicorn. I am a moderate Republican and an independent voter. Stick that one in your ear and smoke it. Better yet, get some weed for the special occasion! Ha!

And forced to be further victimized by the criminal that perpetrated acts against you? To benefit the criminal? Surely the Geneva convention says something about that? Get educated people.

I won’t get any surgery that isn’t going to save my life. Skin tag removal is the only thing I have done. The gym, eating right, Hydration, vitamins, and skincare can solve most issues. Anything hereditary I’m just going to have to love.

I like when you said at the end of the video, use cleancare eat well and use surgery as a last resort!. I nod my head everytime he says to use surgery as a last resort!. I 1000% agree😂👏👏

The surgical techs are responsible for every item used in surgery. So if something was left behind, it was the surg techs fault BUT the surgeon is the one that takes the heat. So negligent

I had an oral surgeon fracture my jaw (removing two wisdom teeth). He didn’t tell me until it kept hurting and didn’t heal for six months. When I went to a lawyer, they said the same! File was ‘missing’.

I remember in my training, xmas eve 1990, last case of the day! Counting out instruments & swabs. One swab missing! Had to wait 1hr for on call radiologist! There it was, raytex strip showing from moblie x-ray! Sutures taken out until we found the swab! Successful outcome! This was clinical negligence!

Dr. Youn thank you so much for suggesting the use of a collagen moisturizer. It has made a huge difference in the firmness and smoothness of my skin. You’re the absolute best sending love from Iowa ❤️❤️❤️
