@@amandajones6481 The first two dermatologists thought it would just go away if they injected the cortisol. The last dermatologist took a look at it, and he said it felt like a rock underneath my skin. So he said I had to go to a surgeon to take it out. The surgeon looked at it, and he said there will be a scare after he remove it. So, the moral of the story is to never ever go to a dermatologist for a cyst problem. They are clueless and give you a huge scare.

@@coolhead8686 , I am sitting here in shock, absolutely gobsmacked, that 1- a Dr actually injected cortisol into an epidermoid cyst! And 2- that that Dr was actually a dermatologist! 🤯🤦🏼‍♀️ Oh, I almost forgot 3- then ANOTHER dermatologist sent you to a general surgeon to have the resulting hard mass removed! Did the 2nd dermatologist forget what they specialised in?! That 2nd dermatologist, should have removed the hard mass themselves. And being a dermatologist, they should have been able to give you a smaller and neater scar that any general surgeon could. @Cool Head you sure had a bad run with dermatologists! Fingers crossed- that you are all done with epidermoid cysts for this lifetime!

In 1961, a surgeon named Leonid Rogozov was stationed in Antarctica. He came down with acute appendicitis and knew that he was going to die without surgery. He was the only doctor there. Without anesthesia, it took him an hour and 45 minutes to cut his own abdomen/peritoneum, remove his own intestines so he could access his appendix, remove his own appendix and suture himself. He almost passed out a few times. He had two colleagues assisting him, one was holding a mirror but he quickly gave up on that and did it by “feel”. The other assistant was taught the names of instruments and how to hand them to him. "The bleeding is quite heavy, but I take my time... Opening the peritoneum, I injured the blind gut and had to sew it up," Rogozov wrote. "I grow weaker and weaker, my head starts to spin. Every four to five minutes I rest for 20 - 25 seconds. "Finally here it is, the cursed appendage! With horror I notice the dark stain at its base. That means just a day longer and it would have burst… My heart seized up and noticeably slowed, my hands felt like rubber. Well, I thought, it's going to end badly and all that was left was removing the appendix." It didn’t though, he successfully removed it, ligated and sutured everything up. Instructed his two assistants how to wash the instruments before administering some antibiotics and a sedative to sleep. Leonid Rogozov became the first person to successfully perform an “Auto-Appendectomy” and died in 2000 at the young age of 66, surrounded by his family at home, after losing his battle with lung cancer. Appendectomies are now compulsory for many Antarctic researchers and may possibly be for astronauts in the future. 07

I performed surgery on myself to remove a Cyst years ago. It was on a weekend so my doctor wasn't a option and I did not want to go to the ER because I thought it wasn’t a real emergency. I did notice the Cyst earlier but I thought it was just a pimple. But on Saturday it was Red, hot and it hurt bad. Just the T-shirt rubbing on my skin hurt bad. So, I went to the bathroom and got my swiss army knife, some Paper Towels and Povidone-iodine. After rubbing the iodine on my chest, I took the knife and also rubbed it with iodine and then I started to cut the Cyst open. After the first cut pus started to gush out and immediately, I felt the pressure went away and the pain got better. After a while of pressing with my fingers and a lot of pus and blood later I noticed something hard. I just knew I had to get it out. So I took a pair of tweezers and after a while I somehow got the sack out. Then I used the iodine again and flush the cavity out with it, sure it burned but it was still better than the pain I had before. Then I took some gauze put iodine on it and stuffed it in the cavity but let a bit hang out and then I put a band aid over it. I removed it the next day and flushed it out again. The Cyst never returned but the cavity took long to heal. I still have a scare but I have to say it went not to bad. But I would not recommend it and wouldn’t do it again.

Sounds like you had an infected cyst and treated it pretty much as I would have, except without the benefit of anesthesia or antibiotics. If the infection spread as a cellulitis you could be in big trouble without access to antibiotics but you got away with it and deserve a congratulations. Doing that on yourself took a good bit of moxie!

I have seen the socialized medicine countries take 1+ hours to get an ambulance to a location. Every state in the U.S. has so many free or greatly reduced appointments, based on financial capabilities. Everyone wants to complain about the price of medical in our country. I would rather have a debt, then taking the possibility of waiting over an hour for a real medical emergency resulting in death. Now if we can keep people out of the ER's, who have no actual emergency....that would save all of us.

@@ComicalContentGoblinyep. I spent 6 hours throughout evening-night last summer keeping a very elderly lady with advanced osteoporosis and cancer alive who'd broken bones in a fall outside (if it wascolder or wet weather she'f have died for sure), the 999 call centre repeatedly told me she's not priority and refused to send an ambulance. When one finally turned up at 3.40am after I threatened a nurse on the phone "you will be directly responsible for her death" following her repeatedly ignoring me and telling me to just force the old lady to use an asthma pump (just a diversion tactic) the ambulance crew said they were told there was nothing wrong with her and to just check her over. They spent another hour prepping to pick her up and carry her about 20m to the ambulance 'because there wasn't enough light to safely walk' and had to wait for a lighting crew to drive from Exeter to the north Devon coast, 5 men with two lamps. We had big torches! The UK NHS is under a deliberate destruction, refusing to treat people and wasting money on ridiculous practices. She was such a fighterbut eventually died, following pneumonia in hospital, them setting her bones wrong and surgery to rebrake and correctly set, flu, being left in bed in hospital without care (water etc). Its an absolute disgrace, the whole world needs to see the NHS is not this wonderful free service, its a pick and choose who is worth saving service, and if you are not usually fit and healthy in working age then the attitude is 'screw you, go die'. I'm watching this because I have a giant cyst that is affecting my health, yet I'm told NHS will refuse to remove - my GP wont even refer me, in fact they have refused to help with a variety of other quite serious health concerns and I nearly died last year, and they refuse tolet me seemy medical history. I just had to go through the PALS service following a mockery of my chronic back and neck thats debilitated me to not be able to work for nearly 2 years, after nagging for help for so long and fobbed off, then on a 6 month waiting list, I finally got an appointment and the 'consultant' with a smile told me "happy people don't feel pain" and refused to help because I'd said how it had affected me... I had to fight to get an MRI. Looks like my cyst removal is going to cost me around £800, its a shame and over a months worth of income but I guess cars cost the same to repair these days too.

Go back to 1957 and kids that were basically on their own because our mother could not care less and had the metal capacity of an 11 year old. We lanced a big boil on our brothers leg and he did not die he recovered and after a good dip in the Horse trough cause the water always ran into the bathtub where the horses drank their water and there was algae in the trough and I said that was good for a person cause we came from the ocean. My younger brother and I opened up the boil and gently squeezed out the pus and wiped it all off with Animal strengh Iodine and then smeared the wound with good old Jensons Blue and wrapped the leg with a big piece of an old sheet and carried him in the House and put him on the couch and he did just fine and we washed the wound the next day with more Iodine and heh how could anyone ask for any better care, i was proud of our results and my brother was proud of his big boil scar and well life goes on and we all grew up and got out into the world and began our life.

I think that the doctor watching this is a good guy. Usually, the doctors just rip into the person that's doing this. This doctor however is actually commenting on some of the good things this guy is doing right. Good for you doctor. Your actually being honest and fair to these guys who aren't doctors. I think that it's a good honest commentary on what their doing. That's nice to see for a change. Of course a doctor could do a better and correct way of doing this, but it's just nice to see you THE DOCTOR actually saying complementary things on what their doing right. That's great. Doc with all due respect, copper and silver have been used in medicine for thousands of years. Colloidal silver was used in wound dressings well into the 20th century and was available otc until 1999. There is a very real possibility he might have some lying In a drawer somewhere. He did an excellent job with reducing the level of pain he is inflicting. I think that nurse you have working FOR you has a superiority complex. She needs to humble herself. Bridget bears a striking resemblance to Amanda Peet. My biggest question here is, once he had the cyst wall above the surface, couldn't he do like countless others and grab it with tweezers and extract it? Before we knew better, my wife's GP did one of these for her. it appears she just extracted the contents because it's growing again. Worse still, after she scraped it, she PACKED IT WITH GAUZE! So, a week or two later we had to remove that at great discomfort to my wife...i think she's changed GPs since then, hopefully the new one will stay in her lane.

The priority is gloves, gauze, sterile lido with epi injections, sterile punch biopsy tool or scalpel, and a sterile currette, also a sterile pair of scissors for blunt disections The wound site just need to be cleansed with betadine or alcohol before the incision it's done.

I can tell you from personal experience that health insurance in the U.S. of A does NOT cover the majority of these cyst removals. Not even the ones on an eyelid! So it’s not surprising that people decide to do these procedures at home having watched these mini operations on RU-vid! How many people in today’s economy can afford about $500 or MUCH more to fix this kind of problem?!!? I was calling various doctors just last week for a skin cancer screening. My insurance doesn’t cover it and the doctors charge anywhere from $350 -$400 for an office visit and said screening. Outrageous!

I can understand why someone would DIY this. I'm looking extensively for pricing, and they make the process so troublesome. Went through 15+ websites and there's not even a range / clue. But as far as I know, in Ontario Canada, cyst removals are uninsured it's going to be '500$ minimum'. These are tough times yo, I can't afford slice bread. I'm a artist and a sculptor, and have the anatomical understand how to delicately carve around the cyst wall, and let the pressure automatically eject the sack intact. Unfortunately it's on my black, and I neither have friends, nor a clone. Especially not friendships this amazing. Ahaha, very entertaining, and his bros "have his back", quite literally.

I was just looking at the price of cyst removals. Expensive and insurance always says it's cosmetic. I had to suffer so much thanks to insurance saying just do hot compresses and an infection from a Bartholin's cyst that when it was the size of a tennis ball it was finally treated the Dr. Said what that technically insurance should have to reconstruct the whole side of my body. If I have a cyst now that's bothering me I will go down to Mexico with my husband's families Dr. Cheaper, and they don't make you suffer for months before finally doing something about it.

@janethayes1728 thank you for your empathy. My husband said I was lazy and complaining for nothing. I made him go in the room to see the amount of liquid drained the Dr said it was 3 one on top of the other. I don't know why this started after the birth of my 2nd child. Now when a cyst starts my husband is kinder about it. And tea tree oil along with cutting pork out of my diet seems to help. Usually they start when I'm stressed out. And they don't remove these only drain them. So they reoccur.

I've been doing this to myself since I was 17. I am able to get they cyst wall out. I've learned from my grandparents. They learned from other family members. I have a skin condition that when I have a flare-up the outer layer of the skin has to be removing for the topical to keep it under control. It works really well. I've been doing this before RU-vid was out. My skin regrow ever 12 hours . I used to go to tight therapy too. The doctor accidentally burnt my skin so bad I had to be placed in a bathtub because of the fever. It took two weeks of being placed in a bed and the skin was very sensitive. I could hardly even turn because of the pain. Since then I won't see the doctor unless I have to in order to get an antibiotic. They finally put me on injectable medication. It costs 5000 for the two shots I have to give myself. It does work but medication that I inject can affect my immune system. If that happens I have to go to the hospital. Luckily I haven't had to do that only one. My employer said it was too risky for me to be at work because I might get an infection on the job they were worried about getting sued if I got an infection from the workplace

My mom is gone now, but back in the day she suffered with rheumatoid arthritis and could barely move. For some reason she would get a cyst like that on her shoulder like that guy, but a little higher. She had one that was a little larger than this guy's. She went to a doctor and he told her to leave it alone and it will go away. Well, it wasn't! It was getting larger and hurting her a great deal. I'm the only one in the family that doesn't get grossed out. Well, being poor we couldn't get all that stuff. I just took a sewing needle and broke what looked like the head. I then proceeded to gently squeeze. Yeah, initially it squirted. I continued squeezing gently on the outer edges of the cyst. It gradually got very small. I kept squeezing until nothing more came out. For the next few days I kept an eye on it to make sure I'd gotten all of it. I actually had seen some videos recently from a Dr out of England and I learned a lot from him. This video just popped up for me. I couldn't watch those idiots in my opinion. Thank you though.

@yellowood252
@yellowood252 2 года назад
Worked in a dermatology office very briefly as a medical assistant in training. You are correct that if it is not infected it would likely be regarded as cosmetic and not covered. If it was infected and inflamed, that would have to be addressed before the cyst could be excised. I only finalized a few cyst excision charts, I want to say it was somewhere between $800 and $1800 at a private practice. I know thats a large range, but again I don't remember much. DISCLAIMER: I only had a short time in the office, I could be wrong about everything I just stated. I am not a physician. This is simply what I remember from working with the doctor. I imagine the costs would vary greatly between practice and what area you live in.
