loved that one Tony. Near the tops of my list of favorite magical items. And when our campaign got to the point of high level to be able to create your own magic items, rings, necklaces, whatever it took to get to the Ethereal Plane.
Never encountered or used Plate of Etherealness. Very potent. Because of the charges on it one could drop it in for a situational use to overcome an in game obstacle. I love how well worn your DMG is.
The normal way of recharging anything is with the casting of an “Enchant an Item” spell for magic-users, “Major Creation” for illusionists, and a lengthy time praying for priests. - DMG pg 118. I *might* let a “Wish” recharge some items not normally rechargeable, but it would depend on the item in question. I would be more inclined to allow a “Wish” to reveal the location of a similar item.
Thanks for the video! Never had this as a player and never gave it out as a DM, mostly because I didn't really utilize planes in my games. It's a nifty item though!
Someone in our party had it and used it fighting phase spiders. He came back post haste when we reminded him he could get bit, fail his poison save, die, and our cleric wouldn't be able to help him 😜
This is an item that I have never encountered nor have I ever given out. In my setting only certain people can wear plate mail legally in the setting. The only people who can are royals, nobles, knights and paladins. It is reserved as a status symbol and a law utilized by just about every realm in my setting. It lets my players know that if you encounter someone wearing plate mail you had better be careful how you interact with that individual. It also gives the warriors and paladins in my game something to shoot for.
I've never had that item but one of our players did. He refused to use it to become ethereal because he had a great fear of encountering ethereal creatures. Most of which are pretty nasty and as someone else mentioned, your on your own with nobody to help you if things go wrong.
Yeah, I'm not really familiar with the concepts you were discussing. I recall the Ethereal Plane was called a "transport system" to the Inner Planes, like the Prime Material, the Positive and Negative Material, and the Elemental Planes. I'd be interested in hearing more. Thanks!
I just looked and there is. Strangely, in the UA, there is also field plate +5, but full plate only goes to +4. Seems like after all the expense of making full plate that you’d want to enchant it to the maximum…
