PLATFORMS GALORE! Inc How to make a curved platform - EXTENSION PROJECT 2020/1 PART 8
Phew what a challenge that’s been, especially when the 3d printer stopped working. Gratefully I bought the right parts and all is well again. I show the process I go through to make a curved platform. Yes there are many methods you can adopt but, for me, this works best.
In this video I:
- I show the progress of platform building at varying stages.
- I explain the main differences of platform 13/4 to the rest of the station.
- explain my 3d printed solution ‘fits the bill’.
- I explain and demonstrate how I make a curved platform.
- show few trains running.
ALL PHOTOGRAPHS USED ARE MY OWN TAKEN ON MY VISIT TO PICCADILLY STATION ON 18-12-18 with kind permission on NETWORK RAIL.

A great build John, the platforms look fantastic, great attention to detail it would be so easy to model all the platforms exactly the same, but you've done your research and got the Finish right. There's no reason why I should be surprised by this, as we've come to expect from you, only one way to do a job and that's the right way. Always a pleasure to watch thanks John your a inspiration. Nice technique and great results, that will be a quite a station when completed, few of us have the space, certainly one of the advantages of N gauge. Very good John. You've got the platform for a good layout there lol. Seriously I hate making curved platforms especially in 00 as it's hard to have as larger curves as you have with n gauge. A plus for n gauge. My platforms all seemed ok until I ran my container trains which caught them. It's all looking good John brilliant atb Andy

Thanks Andy, yes each gauge has its pros and cons, but Im pleased with how its developing. I cannot imagine platforms twice the size would be nearly 9-10’ . Lots of space... lol

Hi John, Well done you are a gluten for punishment are you not when do you sleep!!! I was interested to see how you do the curved one as I did my double curve one a while ago and all I can say is we came to the same result but from opposite ends but I did not have a 3D printer so mine all cardboard and talking of 3 D printers well done for the fix I would not have a clue. Keep well and safe and put your feet up for a bit there is always tomorrow. Cheers Robert.

@piccadillymodelrailways 3 года назад
Ha ha ha, Ive developed a system where sleep is a mere condition lol. Seriously though there are many ways under the sun and as you say they all lead to the same result. There is nothing wrong with cardboard Robert the 3d printer is just another tool at our disposal. I have to be honest I didnt have a scooby when I bought my printer. I just watched others videos and bit by bit learn that way. Its amazing what you pick up.

Hi Roger, thank you, I understand now. I have 3 HSTs and two are sound fitted in both ends. In the motor car and dummy. The motor car is more difficult, but dummy car is easy as the speaker can go in the space where the motor would have been. If you are not sure it maybe advisable to have someone do it for you.
