I love the details on the Platinum nib. I have a Century 3776 Bourgogne in UEF. It sips ink and writes endlessly so well even on zero pressure.

@@DrManuelSardinha wow, you got the UEF too? Join the club 😁 It writes really well. A cheap but smooth blue ink will be the original Pilot ink. It'll be a good daily writing ink. A more elegant but slightly expensive dark blue ink will the the Sailor Manyo ink.

The no pressure SF line looks similar to the EF or in between EF and F while the pressured line looks closer to a medium. I like the way Platinum did this. They give you a "soft range between EF and M in a way. Looking forward to trying it.

You create the best videos that are so informative and super helpful. I am making a trip to your shop if I am ever in Brooklyn!!! Thank you for all of the hard work you put into all of your line comparison videos! I have watched and rewatched your Pilot, Sailor and Platinum 3776 videos many times. They are all so helpful for narrowing down what I like in a pen 😊

Nice line comparisum. Maybe try with sakura pigma microns. They range from 003, 005, 01,02, 03, 04,05 al the way up to 1.5. But especially helpful to show the exact with in mm of the various fine nibs in japanese fountain pens. Thanks for the great video's!

I bought a 3776 with an SF nib last year. Initially it was too dry and toothy for my taste. After taking a break from the pen, I had it smoothed out a tad, flushed it thoroughly (the nib and feed are friction fit and come out easily), paired it with a Monteverde ink with ITF technology and will dedicate a month to breaking it in. I get on great with vintage models of this pen, so I'm not willing to give up.

I don’t care for the fine or extra fine nibs in these pens, as I find them to be just a little too fine for me….even the fine….something I thought I’d never say, because I used to prefer very fine nibs. The medium is probably my favorite 3776. I like the broad nib too.

Ah, the Celluloid *is* the most marvelous series of the 3776. So nice to the touch. Wild, how noticeably different it is from the various plastics/resins. Especially the Sakura, where you really can't see the seam.

Maybe it’s just the inks I’m using, but I always felt there wasn’t any noticeable difference in line width between my Platinum UEF and my Sailor/Pilot EF’s; thanks for this: think the nib I would love Platinum to make would be a soft extra fine!:)

For the looks of it the SF is an extra fine that widens a bit. It looks finer than the F nib in the video.

I am writing in both the A6 and A5 Hononichi, so gravitating to the EUF for the A6 specifically, and also interested in the Sailor Slim EF and/or 21K F for A5 writing. Thanks for posting such great comparisons they really help! Would love to see your take on recommendations for writing in a Hobonichi and other small BuJo and task notebooks!

This was such a helpful overview; thankyou. I’d love to know how the Platinum nib sizes in the 14k gold compare to the steel nibs on the preppy/prefounte/plaisir. Some brands have completely different sizing for their gold vs steel and that drives me bonkers! (Worst time to find that out is when you finally drop the cash on your first gold nib, only to find it’s not the size you thought it would be) :S

Thanks for this - very helpful! Would you say the 3776 F or Sailor F is finer? I'm trying to decide between the two, but while I've tried out the 3776 in person, I haven't had the chance to try out Sailors. I would prefer a line that is just slightly finer than the 3776 F. Your Sailor nib comparison video seems to be finer but it's hard to tell without it being side by side.

@@genaishivatov1737 I'm not sure what you mean. The 3776 is also 14k, is it not? Unless I'm misunderstanding your comment, as it sounds as though you're saying it's not a gold nib while the Sailors are. Since my question was simply about whether the 3776 or the Sailor PG F nib was finer in usage, I'm a little confused as to what you're trying to say.

I'm curious what the selling differentiation is for Platinum vs. Pilot and Sailor. For me, Sailor has the most attractive pens, Pilot has great nibs, but what does Platinum offer? Their slip and seal mechanism is great, and I wish Sailor used it but other than slip and seal, what differentiates them? Why pick a platinum? And I mean purely their more expensive pens, not the preppy, Kakuno, etc.
@Yoseka
@Yoseka 2 года назад
Hi there! There are some nib sizes such as the UEF and the Coarse that are harder to find on other pens in the US. Sailor also has beautiful celluloid pens that are popular and not readily available on Sailor and Pilot pens. The Platinum Music nib is also different from Sailor's Music nib and the Pilot Music nib is not available here in the US.

Thank you so much for showing the comparison with Copic liners! I have been trying to figure out how the UEF would compare to the Micron 005 and you showed it is near the same. Has anyone tried the UEF on Bible paper? I love my FPs for normal writing but use microns in my Bible and am wondering if this could work as a replacement?

Hi Ana, yes, the Ultra Extra Fine is a nib option we do have but not in all the 3776 Century pens. It is only available in the standard bodies (such as the Bourgogne, Chartres Blue, Laurel Green, etc) but not in the Nice or Celluloid lineups. Hope that helps!

I have always thought one should only use wooden rulers with fountain pens, especially gold nibs with their softer metal against brass over time would damage and mark the nibs. Is this something I shouldn't be concerned with?

Lady, I don't want to disappoint you - but gold nibs of 3776C are hand-finished. And therefore, the dimensions may differ slightly - about a dozen 3776C (EF/F) have passed through my hands.

Ridiculous pens for the money. I've got a Lamy 2000 in EF that writes the same width as a medium Century 3776. Much, much pickier with how you hold it. Platinum writes just about at any angle with minor issues on the downstrokes outside of the pocket. Lamy becomes scratchy almost immediately outside of the pocket but is an absolute joy to use otherwise.
