In short. It did not go well. By far the worst product I've ever purchased and was nothing what I expected. I've already talked to Jeff and I will be returning both. Sorry brotha Scott. I'll put you in for next months giveaway. Cheers and thanks for watching.

Well at least you gave it a try. Too many times I see and hear people who are completely bias towards another brand(s) tools. And never have worked or even held that brand tool. But will call it a piece of crap. Im kinda like you. I'm new in my field and I'm trying a lil bit of everything. I have tool truck tools, store bought and mail order tools. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to try a different route. Keep up the good vids👍

Always like Gearwrench, especially the originals. Still rocking after all this time. No problems. Sockets good and heavy. Ratchets nice and tight, I don't think this is gear wrench tho is it? Is it some secondary brand I have yet to here of? The features are definitely not there lol. I have a 36 tooth Craftsman flexhead and a Champion plug master 2 that I would rather have any day.

Please note that this Platinum Tech ratchet is a totally different monster than the ratchets Justin is comparing it to in this video. The I-beam is not to reduce weight, but it allows the handle beam to physically bend under extreme pressure, and then return back to the straight position. Try that with any of the other ratchets shown in this video and they will snap in half or permanently bend. Their heads would probably break off first. It has a beefed-up head to withstand extreme torque. It is also not a normal 90-degree “flex head”, as pointed out. As advertised, it only has a +/-15 degree flex head so that it can still withstand the extreme torque that it was specifically designed for. This unique I-beam bending design is even more impressive on the bigger 1/2” ratchet… PLT-99682. I just wanted everyone watching to understand that Justin is not comparing apples to apples, and he should not use this uniquely designed, specialty tool ratchet to judge all of the Platinum Tech products. It’s a specific design for a specific use. Platinum Tech brand offers professional hand tools at an affordable price. They carry a limited lifetime warranty, because they are high-quality products.

I had the same reaction with Channellocks 200 piece mechanic's set I bought at Sam's Club. I bought the Channellock 136 piece professional Mechanic's about 12-13 years ago and I was blown away how good the quality was. When I bought the 200 piece a few months ago, the 1/2 ratchet was skipping teeth and you can easily feel the difference in quality in their ratchets. Maybe it's just their ratchets that have downgraded, but I ended up returning it. I originally planned to just replace the set with a new one, but didn't want to take the chances. I may end up getting the 200 piece again at some point to try it out again because I've had nothing but great experience with the set I own now. I wish they would focus just as much on other tools as they do with their pliers. The set I've owned for 12-13 years, I would say it stands right up there next to Tekton.

@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway Platinum Tech has several other ratchets that you should have used for a comparison video against standard ratchets. This is a specialty tool ratchet that has an i-beam designed to physically bend under extreme torque. As advertised, it only has a +/-15 degree flex head and a beefed-up head so that it can still withstand over 300 ft.-lbs. of torque. Try that with the other ratchets. As far as the teeth slipping... That would be a manufacturing defect and should be returned. This is the first we have heard of that issue. Unfortunately, it had to be the one on the video. If you still have it, we would love to get it back to test it because these have proven to be bulletproof.

Maybe they only made it flex that much due to when u want to loosen a fastener your only gonna flex it that much anyway. If you would go further you won’t be a able to get the torque to loosen that fastener. More flex less torque on the bolt. You know what I mean. The head is probably beefy like that for those larger 16 and up size bolts. That’s what I think could be wrong. Like your not gonna use that size ratchet to flex 90 degrees to loosen a fastener. Good video man.
@atdtoolsinc
@atdtoolsinc 3 года назад
That's exactly right! As advertised, it only has a +/-15 degree flex head so that it can still withstand the extreme torque it was specifically designed for. This is not a standard ratchet and should not be compared to them. It was specifically designed to bend under extreme torque. The other ratchet's shown in this video would snap in half or permanently bend under the torque that this uniquely designed ratchet can withstand.

That ratchet is definitely not worth it. Non Flexing “Flex Ratchet” I could hear the teeth skip, sounds like someone put a playing card in a bicycle wheel and tried to back up. And for that price?? No way is that even a player at the price of $150-$160. Better off getting a $20-30 Pittsburgh ratchet that will actually “Flex”

Platinum makes the flex head long box gear wrenches for a lot of the other manufacturers like mountain but as far as that ratchet goes I wouldn't buy it. The broken gearwrench sockets I can actually say not a fan of the gearwrench sockets myself I break the 10 12 13 14 and 18 constantly and especially the 10 12 and 8 mm and my 1/4 drive set I definitely prefer my Snap-on sockets I do have some icon craftman Mac Cornwell and many other brands and I always end up going back to the snap on

Only problem I had was when I let a friend use my gearwrench 3/8dr locking flexhead. He somehow ended up breaking the splines that let the head lock in place. I have ZERO idea how he managed to do that.

@MidwestToolReview
@MidwestToolReview 4 года назад
I knew that ratchet would not perform well as soon as I saw it was a split beam design. Why would you ever split the shaft of a ratchet that is that length. Did they not consider stress/strain of the design and material? That ratchet would flex like crazy under any significant strain and ultimately fail. Split beam designs is fine for standard length ratchets, but not recommended in my opinion for ratchets beyond 10” in length. Not to mention, the handle portion is about the width of the palm, so that increases the stress/strain on the beam. They probably did that design to reduce stress on the internal gears, essentially reducing stress induced torque. That way, they could buy cheaper internal gear, pawl, etc and control the cost of the design, while increasing profit margin!!! Sorry it didn’t work out bud!!
