If you read what Plato wrote in the original Ancient Greek, you'll find that Plato wrote that Atlantis was an island on a lake/inland water body that was covered by water. Plato never wrote that Atlantis sank into the ocean. He wrote that the island of Atlantis was covered by water, subsided and created an impassable barrier of mud to sailors. I like to believe that the Eye of the Sahara is Atlantis if we take into account of the 9000 years ago from Plato's time it would be about 12,000 years ago ish. With the Younger Dryas period occurring around then which likely elevated sea levels by several hundred feet and then washed back away it would have created a huge desert in the western African coast which we see today. If Atlantis really is from beyond the pillars of Hercules then the Eye would have been a great spot for Atlantis as it would have fit the description given pretty well. I've been researching this topic a lot especially as we see other cultural memories of cities turn out to be very real like Troy when it was discovered and pulled from fiction to historic. The Sahara was a lot greener, a lot more recently than previously thought. The Eye Of the Sahara (The Richat Structure) is the only known place to fit *all of the criteria Plato lists. Red, black and white native stone. Concentric circles, washed out by the ocean at some point, it's roughly where Herodotus claimed Atlantis was, and it's due south of the Atlas mountains- the mountains to the North of Atlantis were supposedly named for the first king of that country.

There are more details about this. For some reason a lot of people talk about the comet theory, but actually there is also the coronal mass ejection theory. Right now the exact cause is still unknown. It could be both, as they are compatible. Plato uses the name of the goddess Athena (who took part in this great war) and speaks of Athens because he is talking to the Athenians of his time.There were allies (and probably mercenaries) and after a terribly destructive battle where the goddess Athena hurled enormous rocks (!),the Atlanteans lost. Shortly after, however, there were terrible earthquakes. Originally the Hellenes and the Atlanteans were close relatives. The offspring of Poseidon however became tyrants and had enslaved many nations, becoming cruel and inhuman and a menace to humanity. This is the basic outline of the whole myth that Plato wrote. The names of the seas have changed, there was the Kronian Sea. One has to study the meaning of the names to get the era Plato was referring to. This of course applies to whatever we read about antiquity. I assume that the great age of the god Kronos was over or fighting for its survival.
The only problem with bringing Athens into it is that Athens was nothing back then. Literally just a hovel for neolithic wanderers at best. The works of the Aegean ruling Minoans were great far earlier than that of mainland Greece, but even they did not rise to prominence until about 4,500 years ago before their downfall after the Theran eruption about a thousand years later leading to the Hellenic Greeks Mycenaean ancestors annexing Crete and the survivors of the Minoan civilisation into their own developing culture.
The Canary Islands is at the spot where Plato said Atlantis was. When the Spaniards went to the Islands the inhabitants said they thought they were the only survivors of a huge disaster which sounds to me like a Tsunami. I'm of the opinion that Ancient Greeks and other seagoing people got this story from these people and the tale grew with the telling.

(no disrespect but let's keep our assumptions down to pure research) Plato's story came from one of his predecessors. they.. having traveled to Egypt.. got the story from the Egyptian priests. who made the claim of an ancient empire 9000 years prior to this time. "THIS" time. 9000 years prior to.. a century before Plato maybe two? that takes us back to the end of the last ice age. the time is important because it goes back to a prior time of a long-forgotten epoch. this is of course.. In comprehendible for people fooled by the timeline of the flood and all Biblical timelines all together. the temples at Gobekli Tepe prove this. emphatically. and absolutely destroy the timeline of 4004 BCE being the age of Adam and Eve. it is true they may have been hunter gatherers. but it is false that they go back only 4004 BCE. people forget that Adam lived as much as 930 years. all the old patriarchs lived for 10 times. the normal lifespan. skewing what we assume is a generation. a generation at that point may have been a century if not several. this makes any timeline tied to the biblical Genesis completely irrelevant. sure you could follow Adams genealogy. but, Adam didn't exactly live 120 years. even if science tries to assume that he did. educated guess? More like educated assumptions. hardly. people are jumping the gun. giza was only found what in the 1800's? there's still more buried underneath. their saying more possibly 90% more of the plateau. after more than a century? Proof that we still know nothing. the problem is people don't READ correctly. and assume the world map looked exactly the same in those days and 9000 years prior as it does today. when there is geological proof that the continents themselves and the oceans shifted up and down throughout the Millennia. esPECIALLY at the end of the last ice age. a potential cataclysm may have also caused a Shifting of continents and the sea levels. perhaps multiple cataclysms. while scientists believe the Santorini volcano may be behind the Atlantis myth. the time line I'm afraid does not fit. why is it so hard to believe that it is exactly as Plato stated. WHERE he stated it was. because there's nothing in the Atlantic? raise the sea levels flood parts of Africa. and all the sudden it becomes part of the Atlantic. beyond the pillars of Hercules? uh yeah. you just have to picture what it would have looked like 9,000 years prior to when the story was first passed down. in fact recently a very interesting site was observed in the area of Mauritania. known locally as the eye of Africa. the site fits the EXACT dimensions of Plato's Atlantis. and may be the Smoking Gun that people are looking for. as I stated before the problem is the geology. if the geology and geography can be matched to Plato's exact descriptions. the mystery will be solved. it may not be the Canary Islands but that is interesting. interesting fact that the survivors may just HAVE escaped to the Canary Islands. with it possibly the only place nearby to take refuge. ...it's still the dawn of the next big find. Atlantis is still out there. we may just find in this lifetime

I've spent some time on Google Earth - you can see a giant 'flood' moved through the ENTIRE region where all known recordings of the Great Flood took place. You can see the Riochat Eye in Mauritania, and if you used Google Earth (not maps) you can see this place is elevated. There is a point on a ridge that I set the marker down on, and I imagined seeing below and to the horizon flood waters. Please go look, explore the sands - the desert was made because of the flood waters. YOU CAN SEE IT, it's right there
The location of Troy was never unknown or forgotten. Nor was the existence of the city ever doubted. It still exists today...it's called Troas now. It's the Mythical amphibious battle, several legendary individuals and a 10 year siege between Troy and a Greek confederacy, that was doubted. But still, all of that is perfectly plausible and it fits easily with historical events. Greece exists. Troy exists. Both are even on modern maps. The Bronze Age Collapse happened around that exact time...it all fits. The question is where is Atlantis? Plato says it rains only in the winter. Only Mediterranean climates on Mediterranean latitudes have rain only in winter. Plato says their chariots were pulled by two horses. The Eurasian Steppe was the only place with wild horses, on earth. These were only domesticated between 5000BC and 3000BC. And they only spread out of the Steppe after 3000BC when the Proto-Indo-Europeans conquered the world using their new shiny horses to pull their new invention, called a chariot. The wheel was only invented in the Bronze Age. The other strange thing is, the Egyptians were isolationist for a long period. This caused the wheel to not reach them for a long time. Someone had to conquer them, with chariots, before they final realized the wheel or chariots exist. How did the Egyptians have detailed discriptions of chariots, calling it chariots, without having a clue that the wheel or chariots exists (because of their isolationism). Plato states that the Atlantians worshipped Poseidon. Poseidon is an Indo-european god. These gods, e.g. Zeus, belonged to the same people who domesticated horses on the Pontic Steppe. Just like Domesticated horses, there was no "Poseidon" for others to worship before Indo-europeans spread it accross the known world... (using their horse drawn chariots as transport). I'll use Zeus as an example. Around 2500BC Indo-europeans suddenly left Southern Ukraine/Russia and spread rapidly over an insanely vast area. All the way west to Spain. And all the way east to North India. This is why languages spoken in Northern India are related to E.g. Norwegian. Or why Persian is related to Italian. It's because all these languages have the same single common ancestor language that was spoken by the Proto-Indo-Europeans. Back to Zeus. His full name is Zeus Pater. It means Sky Father. The Roman "Jupiter" is English for Deus Pater. In North India, he was called Djous Patir in the Sanskrit language. The reason all these people have a "Sky Father"...and use the same name for this "Sky Father". Is because they have the same linguistic ancestors. The same is true for Poseidon. It's not possible for a culture from 9000BC to worship Poseidon. Because the culture that invented Poseidon didn't even really exist yet...nor have they spread their gods, horses and chariots accross the known world yet. If Atlantis did exist, then it has to be an Indo-european Bronze Age Culture that lived in the Mediterranean region...for it to be plausible. Other wise it just opens up a huge can of worms. How on earth are they getting rain in winter only? Where did they get the horses? Where did they get chariots? How did they come to worship Poseidon?

These sort of contemporary mythical descriptions feel like the equivalent of fantasy literature of the ancient world. Idyllic landscapes filled with noble and radiant people and their achievements, great cities of splendour and mythical legends filled with fantastic beings, gods and impossible events. People seem to have always longed for such fantastical worlds of fiction.
Wow! Outwardly, when they seemed the most blessed with possessions, that was when they were the most filled with avarice and had lost their most precious gifts.
The Richat Structure is CLEARLY the most likely location of the lost city of Atlantis. After some research (listening to pro and con arguments), I am confident you'll agree. -From the geological features, to the gold and copper deposits even in modern day Mauritania, to evidence of NON-fossilized fish and whale bones on the surface (means there was water thousands, not millions of years ago), to remains of elephants there as described by Plato. -Atlas was the first king of Atlantis, and modern day Mauritania credits a man named Atlas as their first ruler. -The Structure is south of the Atlas Mountains. Heck, even the "Father of History", Herodotus, puts Atlantes there on the his map of the world in the same location. PLEASE go and investigate it for yourself. Visiting Atlantis is a good doc, but Bright Insight presents it best for today's viewers. In what I thought was such an open minded community of researchers searching for truth, I am shocked and disappointed to see some coordinated push to throw shade on the most obvious location.
@@Alex-sr7xu it's not that they don't want it to be in Africa it's because not everything fits the description, some things do and some things don't, so it's more like a reservation for some, for others it was thought for so long that it was much further west into the atlantic maybe the Americas themselves that to now say it was just south with out mention of it being south or accessible by way of alternate land makes it seem not likley for Africa. That is not to say that it wasn't, maybe back then there was water surrounding that part which is now desert.....but that is the fun of it all is trying to figure it all out.

Atlantis was a tran-oceanic exploratory empire that dominated significant parts of the Mediterranean (Cadiz, Spain, parts of Italy, Crete, etc.) Plato wrote that Atlantis was "covered by water." Any refugees from Atlantis were from the global flood at the time. Atlantis never actually sank.

This is of huge interest in view of the Amun priests inducing the Amorites to sacrifice all their women after four years of drought and night frosts (the unspoken mistake). There's material in it for about 3 hours of video, maybe more, from Og's personal account.
Went over to Amazon and looked. Clearly a modern work in the sword and sorcery genre. Not suitable for this channel if it wishes to stay true to promise to present English translations of genuine historical documents.

@@hogweedblitz8739 No the eye, so to speak, is a rare but natural formation due to a meteor strike long ago. Science has explained it already quite some time ago. "bright inside" is just for suckers to be honest, he provides absolutely nothing, no evidence other than strong tales.
There's also the story of Admiral Necho, although I think it may be too short for this type of video. The Egyptians told the story like 'I know no one will believe this because I don't either but I will relay what the sailors said "if you go far enough south then the stars change and the sun rises in the northern sky"' They also explain that its easier to circumnavigate Africa clockwise
The entire plant was under ocean at one point. That's why you can find sea shells in fields and shark teeth in a river in Sherman Texas which is nearly into Oklahoma.
That could make sense, but It could not have been so far south. It doesn’t fit, whereas Europe, America and Africa fit together suggesting they were once separated
Maybe some secret organization has the lost text of Plato's account of Atlantis hidden for their own purposes in some vault somewhere and wants the world to believe it is lost. Just a thought.

The Atlantic ocean stretches from the N pole to the S pole. That map image they showed screams 'Antarctica'. How long ago did this Atlantis exist? 20k years?🌴
First line says that 9000 years ago was the Atlantis war with Athens and the rest of the Mediterranean. Plato lived 2400 years ago. So 11,400 years ago is what the says.

After seeing what is happening to our current history I can definitely see why rulers would hide any historical subjects that could restrict their rule. Imagine how far of a civilization we would currently be in if we were allowed to learn everything from our history
