Does it have a setting to indicate it is in a salt water pool? This may matter in that it is more buoyant in salt water, and the water is also a little harder to push against (friction), that combination might make it slip easier. It may have a salt water setting which might slow down the speed? I've never had a pool, but that was my initial reaction on what might cause it.

I don't think it can 'map' the pool like it has some sort of proper SLAM capability, eg. 360 LiDARs on robot vacuums, the marketing material is kinda vague about the capabilities. My guess for how it works is you put it in the pool in one of the corners and it rides the edges of the pool using the side IR proximity sensors, it then knows the rough size of the pool and can make itself perpendicular with the walls, you can see when it comes down from climbing a wall it slowly goes towards the wall again and realigns itself before making the turn to the other side. The weird angle it's doing probably isn't intentional as it looks like it's slipping when trying to climb because of the approach angle, definitely shouldn't do that because it doesn't have any way to know how far it has slipped by, maybe it got confused by the sloped floor or the shelf, might work better next time, probably rather dependent on where you place it to start. Also I don't think the "AI" is the "AI" your thinking of, it seems like that comes from their mobile app simply being called "Ai Bot", couldn't find any other mention of "AI" anywhere?

It reminds me of the kids trying to run up those slippery rocks you visited… Twenty-plus years ago a friend was explaining how the fancy water-hosey (no electrics) contraption he bought flops it way all over the pool in under an hour. They weren't cheap. The company demo was to set it up in your pool and then toss in a handful of diamonds that you got to keep if the device didn't pick them up within an hour. Now I realize that was pretty genius because it gave them an hour to beat on the customer and get them to buy it. Now I'm wondering if it's possible to make convincing fake diamonds that dissolve in water. ;)

$2199, would have to last for 4 years, without maintenance, to be cheaper than the pool guy coming once a week. Auto pool cleaner, with pipes, is roughly $200, and generally will last 2 years running in the pool, with only having to remove the pebbles, berries and big leaves that choke it.
@EEVblog2

Jim's pool cleaning ranges from $55 to $120. Let's say the minimum $55 x 1/week = $2860/yr. Also, you forgot the most important thing, Mrs EEVblog wanted one.

Maybe an ideal application for inductive charging, using a waterproof inductive pad placed on the bottom of the pool.
@drkastenbrot
@drkastenbrot 5 месяцев назад
you dont want electronics to stay underwater continuously, it complicates seals and ingress by orders of magnitude
@nigeljohnson9820
@nigeljohnson9820 5 месяцев назад
@@drkastenbrot then maybe the unit should have the ability to remove itself from the water, or simply float. The seals might suffer greater damage if allowed to dry out exposed to the air. That said, it can't be good exposing them to chlorine or chloramine dosed water. I suppose if it requires its collection tank emptied and cleaned, it might need to be removed from the water anyway, however inductive charging has a better chance of ensuring the unit remains water proof.

I've got a maytronics robotic cleaner for our pool. Its fairly simple as far as navigation, but it gets it done. Our pool is kidney shaped and that doesnt help. It sure beats vacuuming the leaves and stuff out. Im curious what all the ai marketing really means as far as cleaning performance. I know mine struggles when the filters start getting full. Time lapse would be neat to see.

Lots of skidding there. It looks like the surface ripple is coming from some impeller that is supposed to press its treads to the surface? Super cool, but why is it not climbing the wall? Seems like the product should do that. As you said, you saw it do it once. Maybe your pool is too slimy? You know what would make a great grippy like surface? Solar panels! Solar Poolways! I have a Roomba, and it is worth it's weight in gold. I hope this thing figures out the shape of the pool. The roomba app shows you a map of the area that it cleans and it is super accurate. Does this thing have that capability? Since it was driving up near the pool light and then diagonally cruising to the step, I think its 'rastoring' or 'scanning' of the pool is misaligned with the X-Y orientation of the actual pool. Perhaps the AI will solve for that next time?
@5Komma5
@5Komma5 5 месяцев назад
Our randomly cleaning Barracuda could climb any wall upto the water level and for the price of the i60 you could get almost 7 Barracudas. Since it always runs while the pool pump is on it will eventually reach every corner. A pool is not as complex as vacuuming a house. Not everything needs "AI" 🙄
@landspide

Yep, these are a lot of extra maintenance, removing, charging, cleaning, too many moving parts in a caustic environment. An oldschool single moving part random crawler vacuum solved this problem properly over 30 years ago. I've tried all manner of these for relative who is in the industry, the G3 zodiac can't be beat, no matter how much they try modernise it.
