i've been delving into this myself, problem here is most of these are pop songs with only major and minor chords. i ellaborated by making more movable shapes that leave my pinky open to add 6's, 7's 9's, etc. or move my middle finger left or right to create sus chords. So basically any chord, as complex as you want, yet still movable. its like a little under 30 shapes, but that's on par with learning major and minor chords with the sharps, which is a lot less than the 1100 possible chords you otherwise have to remember to get that complexity. edit: bear in mind that the placement of the 6's and other extentions are visible if you have basic fretboard knowledge as well, because the shapes are always the same. Almost feels like playing piano
Jared, unless I missed it, you left out one of the best parts. these two chords work identically on the 5th string AND the 4th string! the skipped string avoids the change in tuning between strings 2 & 3.
This is brilliant! I have avoided going up the fretboard because I don’t like playing bar chords. This will also help with those songs that change key by a half tone. Can’t wait to try these out on those songs and others I already know. Thanks, Jared!
Jared ,recht herzlichen dank für dein Lernstoff, es ist so super von dir das du uns so ein dollen zu gang zum jazz machst .recht herzlichen dank noch mal. LG Wilhelm
Thanks for your lessons very cool I'm an established guitarist and still get alot out of your videos the key to learning is saying I don't know and find out
It's simply the A-Shape of the CAGED system, just without all the extra notes. I really like to think in shapes, because if you know the few shapes of all the important intervals, you can even play every chord, not only major and minor, just by building it up with the interval shapes. In the case of the shapes in the video, it's only the normal fifth shape (to the right from your root note) and the major or minor third in the same direction, only keeping in mind, that the B string pushes the note one fret up. :-)
Awesome! I'm glad the theory makes sense to you. That does make things easier to navigate indeed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and perspective on these shapes :)
JB out here giving Adele a run for her money! WHOA! As for this lesson, I truly love this one. I enjoy dipping back into a simpler sort of lesson. Still so much to glean. Rock on man 🤘
