I'm a big fan of set boosters, since they make for a better pack-cracking experience. The play boosters look decent so far. I just hope when you get list pulls they aren't almost always bulk commons or uncommons like with the set boosters.

The list is a lot smaller, and it isn't much better from a good card standpoint. You can find the full list slot here, 30 common/uncommons, 10 rare/mythics, plus 10 mythic special guests - magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/whats-new-on-the-list-for-murders-at-karlov-manor

This set is super mediocre, and the dossiere frame is awful. Playboosters costs us extra cool commander like lynde, cheerful tormentor and go-shintai of life's origin, some of my fav commanders in the last couple years qere just tucked into set boosters, those are gone now.

The dossier frame is my least favorite of the showcases in this set, but it is growing on me a bit. I love the magnified frame.

the big pain point for a lot of people in my playgroup is that the price is higher compared to draft boosters. A lot of us don't have a lot of disposable income since we're students, so having to pay a bit extra per draft does hurt. Hopefully it won't be too much, and if it helps out my LGS then that's good because the owners been really good to us.

If I had to guess it'll probably be about $5-$8 a draft? It depend son your LGS though. It's a real thing, though. At least Magic's pack prices haven't increased as much as food and other stuff have.

No mention at the end of the opening for how many Mythics in the box? Sure would like to know that, since Draft boxes used to have 7 and now they are down to 4. So where did this land?

Nerfing the list kinda sucks. I remember pulling a vampiric tutor from Kamigawa on my last pack and the excitement of drawing list cards is doubly entertaining. Idk why they did that..

I personally think that play boosters are great for the community. For starters the game shops dont have to do the guess work with getting set vs draft onto their shelves. People who are trying to get into magic will be less confused when buying products as well.

As someone that collects the art cards in set boosters, I don't like only 1-in-3 packs will have an art card.

I collect them too. It's a bummer but honestly the art card, while fun, isn't a big worry for me.

I am not getting hyped by the playsets. Draft has been very good for me to open, will miss that if they quit with these. This will be a soup 😁

@@RipAndShip If they were really concerned about the health of the game as a whole and legitimately worried about product saturation with the different sets, they should have never gotten rid of draft but should have dropped collectors and just made set boosters a bit more spicy. You are pulling the rug out from under the lower barriers to physical play and focusing on eternals too hard to make it good for the long term health of the game. Get rid of the commander cards and make standard and limited premiere formats or else the bloat will keep getting worse.

For me play boosters only advantage is them not beeing themed so draftable. Very low to non existing chance of getting a list or special guest card. 🤔 The treatments per set except special guest usually have no value for me, what caused me even for just cracking packs to get draft boosters. But it seems like people feel the same. The price went down nearly to set box prices by now. What is where it should be. Hopefully wizards learns from this and lowers distributer prices, so lgs owners don't have to suck that loss every second set from now on. 🤔

My biggest complaint with play boosters is that it's more difficult to play double-headed giant at pre-release with 6 cards less in the pool to build two decks.

Man, not true. The prices are just inflated because is a new collection, but Karlov Manor is pretty weak.

Box price is up 20% because box has 20% more packs. Makes sense to me.

@@RipAndShip because it didn't launch yet. It happens with all new collections. After Feb 10th, the prices will go down hard, because Karlov Manor is much weaker than Ixalan and Eldraine. It is more of a power level of New Capenna.

@@RipAndShip It's 20% more than a Set Booster with ALL packs Qualitatively Weaker than a Set Pack (lost Rare Wild Slot) And pretty much a more Expensive Draft pack with a Foil in each pack. Not Worth

I can also confirm this about multiple box types being an issue. In general, negativity tends to rule RU-vid, so positivity is less common.

Sure, but what is see is a price increase (pricing like set booster i cannot see, but of cause without MSRP Wizard can always blame evil retail). They could have continued with draft booster (maybe changing the mathematics with commons/uncommons) and invent a less problematic mixed product for the Commander/Bling crowd (instead of Commander Decks everytime).

@@nikator8097 You make a valid point about the wonky pricing due to a lack of MSRP. Wizards definitely needs an MSRP for their products. Still play boosters retain the functionality of draft boosters while having some extra rares. So it’s up to you if it’s worth.

Yeah, that is a downside. Thankfully, it's not like doubling in price. Another legit downside someone brought to my attention is building 2 2HG decks out of a sealed 6 pack pool.

Despite the points you have made I feel that this has nothing to do with making it better for the LGS. It is just trying to push the people who were buying set boosters to collector booster because there really isnt any difference between a play booster and a draft booster except an increase in price.

People who bought set boosters will buy the now superior play booster. It's the same price but better. Why would they change to collectors now?

Bye! No point in putting pricing up when it's before prereleases and prices haven't settled. It won't make sense to post prices until at least release day, if not a week after.
