Great teaching video. I suffered along with the family as the converter wouldn't work. Frustration, feeling duped. Then bang! Mom says try another video. Been there. This was human and shows need for persistence, patience, and the ability to make room for the possibility that some good ideas don't always work out - right away. Gonna buy one of these converters. I have a Samsung QLED HDR TV. I needed DVD to HDMI. One of the videos I watched said Samsung is a bit fussy about adding components. They were right. I didn't think I needed all the extra cords so I ordered one without all the cords. It didn't work - so I had to return it to amazon. And bought the one the Samsung video here recommended with all the wiring - it cost more but I plugged it in and it worked great right out of the box. I would recommend this to all Samsung TV owners.
I wish these was 3 years ago, so I can tell you that the DVD player will work with the Framemeister. The Framemeister will automatically change everything to match your TV.
Thank you thank you thank you you solve my problem I had purchased a converter but my converter was showing HDMI "in" not out that was my problem I returned it and purchase the one that had HDMI "out" When you made that point I realized that must be the problem and it was Again thank you
If your old skool dvd player has digital output, use a digital audio cable instead of the red and white RCA cables, it wil give you a much better audio signal.
that converter does do its job, it converts signal whatever resolution of the input is. if the input is 240p the output on the HDMI is 240p, if the input is 480i the output is 480i. so with modern tv now a days that doesnt have any analog input on it (specially 4k TV) you can bet that the HDMI input on that TV only support 480p, 720p 1080i, 1080p and 4k if you have a 4k tv. you dont see 240p and 480i in the list so, yep this will normally will not work at all.

I don't know every HDMI TV I've ever come across in my life including the new one that I just bought a few weeks ago have RCA inputs. The TV I just replaced had component and RCA inputs, all in one though you know
Hi, have you ever seen a cable/adapter to connect YCbCr (camcorder output) to USB (pc input)? I haven't found anything similar on the market, there's only some HDMI to USB adapter.
Ok the reason ur having trouble is that movies often have a copy protection signal embedded in the video. It prevents a dvd recorder from being connected inbetween the dvd player and the tv. So the dvd player is sensing there is a device inbetween the dvd player and the tv. So it views it as an attempt to illegally copy the movie. Because the converter box is re-encoding the signal. Or copying the signal. So that's where the problem is. It worked for the old movie because it probably had no copy protection signal. So the only devices that will work with the converter box are things that have no copy protection signal. For example if u hooked a camcorder up to it. It would work flawlessly. Because home videos are not copy protected. So essentially the device has limitations in which it will work. So ur best bet is to buy a dvd player with a hdmi out. Unless u are going to use it with VHS tapes and old stuff that doesnt have copy protection. But if ur going to play any modern dvd movie. It wont work
it happened to me also, but after repeated tries it worked.. sometimes it depends on the dvd disc itself.. the re-recorded ones often times getting rejected
I have the same DVD/VCR combo, so thank you. The only part that confused me was when you said you needed another converter for the VCR side. Could you clarify?
For the DVD side we had component out which is the red green and blue cables. For the VHS side we only have video out which is the yellow cable and then the audio red and white cables. Since our adapter only has component we are kind of limited.
But did the VHS work as well? I have the same exact Sony VHS/DVD combo player and I would like to play some of my old movies every now and again. Please let me know if you got both of them to work. Thanks for the video
You might get a kick out of this.... Did you know if you hook up a blu ray player to a modern tv & connect it with HDMI cables it will play DVD’s FYI most Blu rays player plays both DVDS & Blu rays. The good ones up converter dvds & have progressive scan modes

have the converter and it would be simple except for one thing. The outputs on DVD are green, blue and and red, but rca cable leads to the converter are different-yellow, white and red-which do you plug into which
If the JACKS on the input of the converter are yellow, red, and white, that means you have a COMPOSITE (not Component RGB) to HDMI converter. Use the yellow jack on the DVD player for video, and the red and white for audio. If your adapter has actual red green blue (plus red and white for sound) JACKS, then u may use a yellow-red-white- A/V cable to pass picture by matching red to red, white to blue, and yellow to green at both ends, plus add another red and white RCA lead for sound.
These component to HDMI converters are hit and miss, not worth the frustration or the money. You are much better off either buying a new DVD player with HDMI output that has 1080p upconvert, or just get a blu ray player which is HDMI output and will play blu rays and DVD's.
Totally valid points, but the reason why I bought the converters because I needed to see VHS as well. I haven't converted these old DVDs and VHS yet. However I wonder if there is a VHS DVD player that has the correct output
@shadricosuave If you only want to watch VHS tapes in a VCR (or VCR/DVD Combo unit) then you don't need to use a component connection to get it to work. You can just use the composite (red, white & yellow) connection from the output on the unit to the input on your TV. Or just use the coaxial output connection on the player connected to your TV. You have a TCL Roku TV and those have composite and coaxial inputs. Your VCR/DVD player has those outputs too, so if you hook up to one of those connections you can get the VCR and DVD parts both of your unit to show on the TV. The only bad thing is the quality won't be as good because those are both 480i connections, but it will work.
How is the quality of the dvd's? I am about to buy a 4K and am concerned about how my old movies on dvd will be on the screen in regards to video quality. Thank you
Never seen a dvd player with that many wires to play it ??? DVD player should have only one wire (hdmi, or s- cable an or 2 audio wires red,white, left and right audio and yellow-vidio) the blue, green, extra red cables are either speakers or play off a camcorder. The component you have maybe for something else, you need a RCA to HDMI component to play the VCR for a smart TV the dvd player should work with one hdmi cable or S-cable.
Man the next time your child can help you record the video or you can show the kid how to do it to avoid troubles when you unbox your thing and record at the same time.
FrenchSkateboarder that’s too bad, but I think your best bet is to have the HDMI output fixed. Not only would you have a direct digital video and audio signal going directly to your tv without converting the signal 3 times(internal digital to analogue conversion for component output and another conversion from analogue to digital output from the external converter), but replacing the thermal paste in the gpu while it’s already open wouldn’t be a bad idea.
