Play Hive Like a Champion Surrounding the Pillbug 

Thanks for another video. I assume it is a lot of work to produce, but it is well appreciated. It teaches me a lot of this great game.

Little correction, Randy: I started playing the tournaments from 2008 on, the year when I picked up a copy of Hive in a toy store in Dresden spontaneously, not really knowing what it was about. ;-)

Hi. When playing in standard hive pocket version(=without Pillbug) could the lifting abilities of Pillbug be given to spiders with with certain restrictions. Spider could only lift bugs over itself exactly in opposite direction where the lifted bug is currently. All others lifting rules and restrictions of Pillbugs would apply to spiders and recently lifted or moved bugs. Spiders could also lift other spiders. This extra ability of spiders could be countered easily by pinning it or moving next to it in position where spiders opposite direction is already filled with either friendly or enemy bug. With this extra ability spiders could be used in attack by lifting friendy bugs to otherwise non freedom of move spots or used defensively by lifting queen bee, friendly or enemy bugs to create space. I am total novice in this game but game designer by heart so i am asking would there be any game breaking situations if house rules would allow spiders have this limited alternative lifting ability with its standard 3 spaces move ability? I just ordered physical copy of hive pocket only so I have not been able to play test this house rule yet. Really liking these teaching videos so thanks!

This video is great. With the inclusion of the pillbug along side the first 2 expansion pieces i think that Hive become immensely fascinating both to play but also to spectate!

I have just started playing and am addicted. This was a great video. The player commentary really helped me understand some of the tactics used to master the game. I need to get the pillbug extension now! What a game changer it makes.

Another tactic to neutralize the pillbug: taking it away from its queen by using your own pillbug/mosquito. Do you like it? Do you use it frequently?

Quick question, why was the black queen able to move @11:50? when the freedom to move rule states that a piece that is blocked in and not able to physically "slide" out if it's position may not be moved? Just bought the game and love it! This move, however, did not make sense to me. Thank you in advance!
