Storti might be the best at scoring tries alone. He may not be the fastest or the strongest, but he broke the ProD2 try scoring record with like 5 games in advance. Even at the world cup, he scored tries with pace alone. Hope all the best for him in Paris! Edit: fun fact, both storti and Jerónimo Portela played with Santiago Arata at Penarol. They were supposed to play a full season but then COVID happened
I’m glad to see you including Storti - he’s been pretty easy to miss unless you’re keeping a pretty close eye on Pro D2, but he’s outrageously talented. It’s gonna be great to see him up in the Top 14 next year.
@@romainviry3185 Just a reference to his pose in the photo that is often used with two fingers on his temples. The joke is pretending that this is a medical condition and that he's amazing to be able to play rugby like that. But when you explain a joke it's no good anymore :)
Mack Hanson is a once in generation player. Every time he plays you are watching what will become legendary. Add to all this the fact that he is a really positive genuinely honest human
Canaan Moodie must be pushing this list, or the 13 list, but understandable he’s not on given who he’s behind in the Springbok pecking order. Certainly talented enough to go all the way up this list in the future. Edwill van der Merwe another with the potential to climb. I was also very impressed by Tommy Freeman against the AB’s, so he may be one to watch on the left wing. Josh Adams was probably my most surprising omission across the two wing positions. I know we’re in 2024 but as a South African, his performances for Wales in the World Cup 2019 semi-final and for the B&I Lions in 2021 carry so much weight his goodwill would keep him in the top 10 for the rest of his career. So disappointed when Hansen got a bad injury. I was skeptical of him before but now think he's an incredibly gifted player, hope he gets back to the level he was at, does a lot within the Ireland playing style. (and he never should have played still injured in the WC quarter, huge mistake)
Just on Steyn he is obviously not as flashy as most on the list but his fundamentals are excellent. Can slot in comfortably at 13, decent book, great captain, excellent defensively and solid under the high ball. Best 'safe' winger in the game.
Pleased to see Kyle Steyn get some appreciation. Might not necessarily have the attacking X-factor that Duhan or Graham have but he does possess such a well-rounded skillset. Better defensively and in the air imo, brilliant rugby IQ, and, above all, consistently reliable. I can hardly recall him having a bad game even when Glasgow or Scotland were overall poor. I was shocked he wasn't in the 23 for either South Africa or Ireland games in the WC - surely he gets the nod in games that call for a bit of pragmatism from here on.

Nonchalant is the best descriptor I've ever heard of him. He sometimes looks when he is lost in his own little world but suddenly a switch flips and WHAM! That boy is greased lightning.

The Portugese back 3 is one of the best there is and will challenge most Tier-1 back 3. Really liking you including them and definitely here on merit. Kyle Steyn also deserves his position, and with attack, defense and captaincy behind him, very underrated. Top 3 will walk into any team. Penaud's defense is not always the best, but what he does on the other side of the coions more than makes up for it. Thanks Tim

Based on club form and consistency for both club and country Kurt Lee could top this for me, he has become the best of the lot on the wing, so clinical, he has it all!
I have Damain Penaud is sliding down slightly in my rankings, I feel when he is put under pressure, he does not handle it as well. On the front foot, Damain all day, Him and Will Jordan are the same person. Have you ever seen the two together on the pitch at the same time!!!!
when he got to number 2 I was thinking has he put freeman at 1? Lol he's got all the attributes to be top 5 for sure with more consistent form at international level.
Feyi waboso at 6 is waaaaay too high, specially considering how good the wingers below him are. Top 3 is spot on, although some may argue that either KLA or Jordan should be top 1.
Hard list to pick given all the injuries to various players but generally agree. I think if all are fully fit then the top 3 is 1 Penaud 2 Jordan 3 Waboso
Wings are so hard to judge. There's so much dependant on the rest of the team... just because you are normally away from the action. Yeah you can go hunting for the ball, but wings are normally judge by what they do in their position... near the sideline. That's why your top 3 on both sides of the field come from the best teams in the world. I mean I still think Julian Savea is an awesome wing...
Tim I think you should do a utility back and forward one next time. Players like Osborne, Willemse etc are Swiss Army knives and offer great value as utility backs
My aunt and cousin is visiting for the weekend and she told us a story that I thought I'd share here. Way back in the early 2000's, my mom's sisters' husbands went to a Golden Cats (remember them??) game versus the New South Wales Waratahs at Ellis Park. They made the unfortunate error of inviting the wives along. Now, while my mom is a sporting nut - rugby, football, cricket, sevens, boxing etc - my aunts know nothing about sports at all. They won't be able to tell you how many points a try is worth and the only players whose names they know are the guys appearing in the magazines in dubious poses. By themselves, my aunts are lovely, but together they are absolute pot stirrers. So during the rugby, they three sisters decide that they are now Waratah supporters and they start cheering everything the Waratahs do and jeering and booing when the Cats gets the ball. Needless to say, this did not go over well with the home team fans. Worse, the Waratahs were playing a blinder and easily outmuscled the Cats. Apparently, one guy told my uncle to "get these [expletive] out of here". Numerous other guys started hurling abuse at them. Wisely they decided to get going. In the car, my uncle told them that their rugby watching privileges have been revoked and they haven't been allowed to go to a live rugby match since.
I would bring Immanuel Feyi Waboso and Mack Hansen on the lions tour. Kyle Steyn is doing really well but Hansen and Feyi Waboso when healthy are absolute box office and have a huge amount of X factor to them.
I might be biased, but I think Calvin Nash at least deserves an honorable mention. Sure, he hasn’t really stood out since he took over for Mack Hansen but that cuts both ways. The fact that he slotted in to a top side playing games against top sides and there hasn’t been a noticeable drop off means to me that he’s nearly as good as Mack Hansen so must be close to that number 10 spot at least.
@Tim, how about a comparison of your power-ranking by nation, instead of the top 10 (or as well as)? i.e. how many players per nation are in the top 10, or top 5, or which countries have the highest concentration of top 5 or top 10 players? just a thought
Agreed with his club form. I have to weigh international rugby heavily though, and he's played 2 games in 18 months. If he keeps getting picked by NZ, he'll move up
Kinda surprised nash is awol but hey its your channel. We missed Hansen a lot this year, does anyone have Intel on him? What the injury was, when he's back?
7 starts, that might be a fair point. Nash has done very well. Perhaps the fact he'll likely be on the bench when Hansen is fit, whereas Feyi-Waboso is now nailed on and could end up a B&I Lion is how I justify it, but I accept it's V subjective.
I'd pick Calvin Nash ahead of quite a few of this list. He probably has the highest work rate of any winger left or right side with the exception of Kolbe. There is literally no box kick or Garryowen that he won't chase and his quality in the air ensures that possession is retained more often than not. His defence is top notch. Ireland didn't really miss Hansen because he performed so well and it is noticeable that Ireland's only defeat in the 6 Nations came when he was taken off injured.
@@EggchasersRugby A white shirt has been a criterion here as elsewhere in your selections (Not a complaint, just an observation). The Portuguese selection must be wholly "gut feeling".
I like your power rankings although I don't agree with all your choices, but most I do. How about making power rankings next time of the top 10 as one power ranking and 11 to 20 on the world rankings teams? It would make those unknown players a bit more known. I didn't agree with the Portugal wing ranking until you gave his stats, both club and internationally. He wasn't on my list, but now he is in my top 3. That is extraordinary stats and you said most top teams wouldn't pick him, but you are wrong, he would walk into most top tier teams as the starter with stats like that. Some coach may just see your videos and with stats like that, who knows, he might get a big contract from bigger clubs. How many other brilliant talent is out there we don't know about because they are tier 2 and therefore unworthy of our attention? All of us only watch when the big nations battle, so we miss out a lot. Thank you for those stats. Big eye opener.
How blessed is south Africa 5 powerful wingers😂😂😂😂 mapims, cheslin, CLA, DVM and Steyn. Depth in SA so deep other countries want our players and 1 is captain as well
Sevu is the best winger in the world. Nobody consistently steals opposition ball, gets offloads, try assists and does crazy work off the ball like this guy. He's easily the best alround winger getting around and clearly better than Jordan. All Jordan does is score tries which he's very good at but he does nothing else and his defence is extremely questionable.
JC Mallía has been the primary Argentine fullback for the last couple of years, not Bofelli. Thought to be fair it is oddly confusing, because Mallía is primarily a winger (and a really excellent one at that) for Toulouse, and Boffelli is primarily a fullback for Edinburgh.
Will Jordan should be 1 for me but great list. Would have Feyi Waboso over Steyn everyday. Can’t imagine Steyn ever scoring two tries in New Zealand ever but he has been playing for much longer to be fair.
If we look solely at World Cup performances, Jordan and Arendse are surely top 1 and 2. If we look at performances over the whole year, Penaud is top 1.
Rugby needs Mack back, he is the definition of loose which is great as irish players (aside from Lowe) are media shy and bring no attention to the sport
And a team is made up of individual players all who contribute in differing ways with varying strengths and abilities. I find it interesting to compare and contrast players abilities. Sometimes i don't agree with the rankings but that's all part of the fun. you don't like these rankings then don't watch them.
You have to look at the year as a whole to judge the players in the rankings. And, objectively, Penaud was more impressive all year. I recommend that you watch his games, he's a fast, technical player, but above all he has excellent flair. Overall, Kolbe is a better player than Penaud, but that doesn't take anything away from the Frenchman's qualities.
@@drinkingup2157 KLA, Cheslin, Mapimpi, Edwil van der Merwe, Grant Williams and Canaan Moodie. Yes, Williams and Moodie usually play other positions, but they can play wing better than the French statue. And if Rassie came out of retirement, he could also outrun Monsieur Piedsdeciment.

Guilty maybe on my part for putting you in the basket of the recent wave of SA fans that although patriotic seem to know little about our game. As a kiwi who has been watching the best rivalry in the game for 50 y plus and doesn't really like the French anyway ,as most kiwis don't , I'm happy to agree on your first two as being better than Penaud albeit on a good day,. Mapimpi is out of favour and has not played a significant opponent since 2022 and other the three although talented are yet to prove themselves.
@@drinkingup2157 Take a look at the highlights of the Boks vs Wales. Edwil van der Merwe is a terrific player. Then check out the Boks vs Portugal. Mapimpi has his speed back and speaking of speed the Portuguese back three were blazing fast. One of the Portuguese wingers chased down one of the Bok wingers from behind. That Portuguese player should be on this list. And I'm ashamed that I don't know his name. But he has great pace and skill. The All Blacks have a superb back three. Jordan, Barrett and Telea can all play wing better than Penaud. The All Blacks eighthman Ardie Savea is the most exciting eighthman since Hennie Muller. Savea can also play wing better than Penaud. I don't know the All Blacks as well as the Boks, but New Zealand always has new wingers with great speed and skill. The ABs probably have three or four new unknown young players that are about to shock us Bok fans.
