Jims computer is by far the best game outta the 3 at least in my opinion. It was so haunting just checking in the closets finding nothing and reading the newspaper and seeing the progression of the situation. And at the end you face an unknown practically alien entity which makes our main protag (Jim) to consider suicide.
I actually didn't know Jims computer would be a horror game. I got so scared at the end and I didn't even realize it was about suicide. It was really well crafted in how Jim slowey went insane, and the player began getting paranoid as well. I was shaking for a while after ending the game. That was by far the most scared I've ever been playing a game. I didn't even realize it was a horror game until long after.
Same dude, I’ve played so many horror games like the mimic, apeirophobia, basically every backrooms game. I’ve also played smile and stereotypical obby. Submarine simulator and the obby game. But Jim’s computer.. that one stood out the most, but ofc I’m not say8ng the others were bad, they obviously had effort. But Jim’s computer was insane. Like really. The ending was so unexpected, even when I played t again I was still scared
Honestly, I think that is a great and inventive way by the creator to manoeuvre around Roblox's strict censorship of contents, especially around such sensitive topics like mental health and suicide.
the only one of these i've played myself was Jim's Computer i have really bad anxiety, at times i get worried it's outright paranoia due to how quickly i assume a complete stranger i only walk by is going to end up kidnapping, torturing, and murdering me, and the way it forced you to check through the closets repeatedly just got to me, cause sometimes i DO have to check around the house multiple times just so i can sleep at night, but the game somehow amplified it to the point where i just wanted to sit in the corner of the house and just hope if i don't progress, it would calm down, despite there not being any other choice genuinely a really good horror game imo
OBBY (not A Stereotypical Obby, that’s a great one) is my least favorite of these. I like the weird cutesy yet uncanny vibes at the beginning, but the stock VHS filter slapped onto the scary part is rather disappointing. And then the FNAF minigame cutscene segment is when it completely lost me. I would love to see an extended version of the beginning, as IMO that was the game at its peak. The same goes for Submarine Simulator as it doesn’t really go for its initial bait showcase besides the title screen, the game description/badges, and its minigames (which by the time you play them you’re already aware this game isn’t what it seems)
57:59 Connection terminated. I'm sorry to interrupt you, Elizabeth, if you still even remember that name, But I'm afraid you've been misinformed. You are not here to receive a gift, nor have you been called here by the individual you assume, although, you have indeed been called. You have all been called here, into a labyrinth of sounds and smells, misdirection and misfortune. A labyrinth with no exit, a maze with no prize. You don't even realize that you are trapped. Your lust for blood has driven you in endless circles, chasing the cries of children in some unseen chamber, always seeming so near, yet somehow out of reach, but you will never find them. None of you will. This is where your story ends. And to you, my brave volunteer, who somehow found this job listing not intended for you, although there was a way out planned for you, I have a feeling that's not what you want. I have a feeling that you are right where you want to be. I am remaining as well. I am nearby. This place will not be remembered, and the memory of everything that started this can finally begin to fade away. As the agony of every tragedy should. And to you monsters trapped in the corridors, be still and give up your spirits. They don't belong to you. For most of you, I believe there is peace and perhaps more waiting for you after the smoke clears. Although, for one of you, the darkest pit of Hell has opened to swallow you whole, so don't keep the devil waiting, old friend. My daughter, if you can hear me, I knew you would return as well. It's in your nature to protect the innocent. I'm sorry that on that day, the day you were shut out and left to die, no one was there to lift you up into their arms the way you lifted others into yours, and then, what became of you. I should have known you wouldn't be content to disappear, not my daughter. I couldn't save you then, so let me save you now. It's time to rest - for you, and for those you have carried in your arms. This ends for all of us. End communication.
to be honest, i wished you played a roblox horror gaem, as far as i know, it was probably the first of its kind to do this on roblox, and while the original game shut down years ago, there are remasters of it
the stereotypical lobby was really underwhelming in my opinion. you could tell it was a bait and switch straight from the title. jim's computer was so surprising for me. even LANKYBOX of all people played it
jims computer, by roblox standards at least, is on another level. its one of, if not _the_ best horror game ive ever played on roblox. instead of just throwing a "owoawhh spooky monster!1!" at you, it plays into paranoia and anxiety, which i love because its a lot more frightening if you let the audiences imagination do the work instead of feeling the need to hold their hand and explain every little detail. knowledge is a persons greatest weapon, and defense. if you know what your enemy is, you know how to fight it. but if you dont, you feel powerless. and thats fucking terrifying.
When “connection terminated.” Came up i went: “i’m sorry to inturrupt you elizabeth.” Then you just went: “i could make a fnaf joke right now. But i’m better than that.”
Jim's computer was not expected when I saw it I thought it was a meme game but it was surprisingly dark in shock fear when Jim picked up the gun and pointed he's chin to cause su$cide its like Jim was shaking and breathing he was in fear and decided to end his life.... I was shocked Jim's computer is a su$cide horror games like no jumpscares Just fear and death Jim's
I checked out UnknownTestimony because I couldn’t find Obby because theres a million Obby’s and his account is deleted and his bio says “I’m terminating my account” so yea so Obby might be gone
the concept of not knowing what is coming for you is what makes jims computer a genius game, you dont even know its shape and even worse, what it does to people. horror games focus too much on scaring people but never plays with the paranoia factor. specially considering you bought all that and you should expect to be able to defend yourself, but could you really? filling peoples head with paranoia and anxiety is what makes people scared and plays a huge role in the immersion. the first obby game feels like its doing it a bit too early to actually scare people but its decent and not that bad its just ok. stereotypical obby is simple but i think its too early for the game to have an ending, specially considering it has lore, like the people shaped figures which some are normal but others are red and deal damage, and you can see them in a cage. the game has a great potential. for now its kinda boring as it is. submarine simulator is not bad either, it emulates the fnaf gameplay well but it doesnt have anything special to it, jims computer is definitely the best one by far, it loses the charm if you never played it blindly but it was an amazing experience when my friend told me to check it out.
Really highlights how impactful "dread" is in a horror game. One of the most important emotions people experience (like looking down a dark hallway) and yet most "horror" games don't take advantage of it. Our greatest enemy is ourselves, after all.
@@ImDaRealBoi true, i wish games played more and naturally with the thought of being followed or that something is coming for you without telling you. Plus: the gun part is very smart too. Once you hear the banging and realize that the black square was a gun, it prompts into your head "oh no i gotta shot them" but its overwhelming for Jim and he takes the easiest way out.
Jim’s computer doesn’t focus on the scare factor. It does work on the surprise factor a little, with the tv and the computer turning on, and lore. That’s what I like about it.
52:48 theres a roblox studio feature that devs use for seeing if a player is afk, and its called "game focus" i think, and if you tab out it triggers it, so any game can detect that.
*Obby - displays anxiety and mentality of visual awareness* *Jims Computer - displays paranoia, fear, mental disruption and Cistulaphobia and not having the ability to sense whats real and whats not* *Submarine Simulator - displays Nyctophobia and Thalassophobia showing fear of entities in dark depths of waters* *Stereotypical Obby - displays derealization, high senses of guilt, delusions, mental breakdowns, and paranormal brain activity (theres also a 2nd part into this)*
I wonder if anyone remembers "a roblox horor gaem!!!!", an actually pretty early bait and switch roblox horror game, it was originally presented in the style of parody making fun of roblox horror games but then switches to an actually self aware horror game, and then basically leaving you on a cliffhanger, used to think that game was the scariest roblox game ever lol
Yeah I pretty much agree it's pretty much pretty dated at this point, even more with the whole parody angle but back when this shit first got put out into the world kid me thought that the game was so scary lol
was that a self aware game? the only time I really remember that game being self aware was one of the endings where you go into a movie theater and get chased away by some black smoke lol
@@Lil_Ducky43 That’s a staple of good horror though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK waiting 3 minutes at the start of the game for everyone to join! WE NEED THE SHOP AND DONATE BUTTONS AND CREDITS!!!!
I kinda view "stereotypical obby" as a stereotype for horrors, because of the desperation to scare the player with the funniest things. Red screen for example, self-awareness... Except for the ending. That was actual horror. Although maybe the end was a stereotype for mascot horror.
meh I think the switch between the obby gameplay and the actual deep dark secret behind it (the reality behind the virtual roblox obby) wasn't that good, it sounds pretty forced. but still looking forward to seeing more of the story revolving around stereotypical obby (theres a prequel already)
for some reason, there's something so funny about a bunch of blue roblox guys pushing you to the ground and chanting "THIS IS MILWUAKEE" in a crunchy voice. also the ending was just mr. fnaf kills you so it's obviously making fun of fnaf
@@buffboyduff2299yeah thats ur fault, looking at the comments when u havent finished the video is where spoilers come,so keep scrolling the comments and crying about spoilers
The thing about Jim's Computer is that it's never explained if the monster even exists. One of my favorite theories is that there isn't a monster in the first place... A key point to consider is that Jim didn't feel safe at night even before anything happened... Jim possibly suffered from some form of paranoia, which when fed by the news on his computer. In the end, without any form of support (he has no friends to talk to on RoChat, nobody else on his baseplate), Jim ends up making a very rash decision...
The static that appears behind you in Stereotypical Obby actually changes how your screen looks if you wait a little while. I won't spoil how it looks when you do, but its a neat little feature that many players miss.
honestly a stereotypical obby was super boring for me personally, my friend who likes obbies told me to play it with him once and not even 2 seconds in i already had a feeling the game was most likely a horror game. the game completely fails at masking itself as an normal obby and no music in the background also completely ruins the immersion. later on with the red screen the weird glitch guy appearing it all just feels like the game is trying too hard to be a horror game when in reality it just feels boring even the ending felt pretty underwhelming overall
literally the exact thing that happened to me. I was playing this with my cousin and is saw the warning so i checked the game description and it was pretty obvious. The obby isnt hard or scary it just does "abnormal" things the only thing SLIGHTLY scary was the ending because it was actually something directly "scary" instead of just a screen filter.
The first and second stages both have jazz upbeat music. It's in the third stage that it starts to distort a lot before becoming barely audible in the last 2. I personally found it alright, though I feel it suffers because of how short it is. I really liked how the obby slowly started to resemble actual structures and rooms (a prison, sewer tunnels, broken highway) hinting at a deeper meaning or story. But then the game just ends with a jumpscare without giving any answers or expanding on anything, so it can feel a bit underwhelming.
Something feels off about how like 90% of the comments are just talking about how Jim's Computer is the best. How I see it, Jim's Computer is a psychological horror game, which focuses more on the feeling of fear and stuff like that. The other horror games are normal horror games, which focus more on scary entities and actual, tangible things. These are two different genres, and honestly? They're all cool, and the type of horror doesn't take away from how good the game is. Games like Stereotypical Obby and Submarine Sim and all that are super cool, and work very well as normal horror games! However, they intend to scare the player with scary visuals and jumpscares and bla bla insert a bunch of other horror assets that I do NOT feel like listing cause we all know them by now, hopefully. Both genres and all these games? Again, super cool! If you like one kind better than the other, also cool! However, just thought i'd point it out as i scrolled for a good bit and noone's brought this up yet. TLDR: Jim's Computer is a psychological horror game and doesn't take away from the normal horror games, and I really like horror, apparently? Why am I writing a whole paragraph on a roblox game video? Bro idk
Jim’s computer is one of my favorites on roblox. Unlike many others, its “bait and switch” is used as a narrative tool to tell a short and compelling story about fear and paranoia. It’s simple, short, lacks replayability, and is doomed to fall into obscurity, but I feel like that only adds to its strengths as a story as a whole - as does many of bait and switch games that “do it right”. (This is my perfect time to introduce you to a roblox game called “The Severance”. Don’t search anything up about it anywhere if you don’t know about it - just play it.) I was lucky enough to play Jim’s Computer blind (near impossible feat nowadays) and oh boy did I almost pussy out so many times my first play.
I clicked this video and went to play a stereotypical obby and Jim's computer back to back, and come back here to see what you thought of them. The first one made my eyes hurt, and I wasn't scared once. Subtlety was thrown out the window. I liked some of the obstacles towards the end but that's about it. Jim's computer, however, was pretty dang good. Loved the progression and the first person sections as well as the single line that flashes on screen. Amazing game!
Yeah, I agree with the stereotypical obby. It doesn't really have many horror effects because we don't know what we did, what we're scared of, or why anythings happening. And the visuals are more painful than anything. I enjoyed the game and don't want to be harsh because it clearly had effort and also may be trying to mock roblox horror in a self aware way
My first play-through of Jim’s computer was the first time I was genuinely terrified of something on Roblox. I’ve played a lot of horror games and most time I jump from the jumpscares, but they just get annoying. But Jim’s computer stayed fresh and I HATED the night sections. It also made me pretty sad seeing Jim in the morning sections looking so happy but committing suicide
jims computer is working went from “yay my computer came, im gonna have fun shopping :D” into “im kinda scared but its okay, i will block all my windows and doors so everything will be okay? Right?” into “There is somebody in my house.”
Lets break it down: Obby - you can tell something is wrong upon joining. But still very shocking Jims computer - displays paranoia in a perfect manner for being a block game, it makes you feel unsafe even if your not the one in the game, gives you a sense sort of.. danger Submarine Simulator - at first glance it seems like a regular simulator type of game, it disguises itself so well, even adding rebirth badges and things you'll see at a simulator game, it encapsulates the facade so well, but it has a fnaf layout, giving you a good idea quickly Stereotypical obby - It definetky seems like the horrorgame stereotype of "self awareness" and all that, the ending tho is very shocking, you just get shot.
I loved Jims computer, you sort of go insane with Jim and I didn't even realize I was playing a horror game until after. I joined it expecting a gasa4am style game.
trust me when i say that playing enough horror games makes even the most haunting ones absolute jokes especially when you and your friends are also in the game
I am so glad I left to go try out jims computer. What a great game, it actually uses real fear other than poorly put together jumpscares. The build up is so good, you think something is going to be there each night but no, nothing. The paintball gun and first aid kits didn’t help either lmao. And not to mention the ending, holy shit what a classic. I can’t believe I’ve never seen this. I’m fr boutta run into a wall to forget it and replay it. Don’t get me wrong, I like submarine sim as well. It might just be me but the “any moment you can get jumpscared” fucks with me a little (not as much as jims computer though lmao)
I actually didn't know a stereotypical obby was a horror game when I played it, I thought it was just an obby meant to be reminiscent of old Roblox. but when the horror elements started to reveal themselves I thought it was so corny
I think turning this into a series would be something id watch and alot of others. I dont usually like or barely play roblox, but i think this came on my recommendations cuz i like horror. But i see this being a series! Figured if roblox “bait and switch” horror gets too tiring, could always like explore “bait and switch” games outside of roblox too
Same boat here, I did used to play Roblox not as much now as but I LOVE all things horror related so things like this and similar concepts always intrigue me and draw me in. I'd definitely love a series like that or exploring things outside of Roblox too as ya said.
i played submarine smiulator thinking it was normal, i have both Nyctophobia and Thalassophobia, and for worstm in day 4, that mf literally asked me how Chile looks like, I LITERALLY SCREAMED
I feel like the scariest part of Jim's Computer is the fake sense of fear. It isnt their, but you always feel like its there. I feel like this is mostly because you can open the closets and the "someone is in my house" message is kinda spooky if you're not ready for it. And if you notice, the items are more defense based. Food, water, first aid kit, the boards, and the black square the turns out to be a gun. Its just scary, without the cheap jumpscares with hyper realistic blood and "and i kept going."
A stereotypical obby was a huge let down for me tbh, i played the game without knowing it was horror but the aspect didnt really fool me that hard. Looking back, they should have done a better job in masking themselves as a normal obby game.
@@CnNationi found a bait 'n switch game too! It's name is apple pie, simple and sweet, so i reccomend giving it a try ( reccomend doing it whit 2 or more people so it'll be a better experience cuz being alone is -scary- spooky ) . Untill then have a great day/night!
Jim's Computer is probably the best out of them, checking the closets and finding nothing. Then Jim committing suicide, we dont even know if there was something behind that door
Jims computer is actually crazy. The way it seems silly at first, then everything happens. And when it reveals its a gun and hes shaking, unable to shoot and ends up resorting to shooting himself.. Wow. amazing game.
Obby and a stereotypical obby are both trash. I expected an umhullt von leiden level and not this. For me, scary obbies are obbies that are extremely hard it traumatized you
Submarine Simulator is apart of a Roblox myth called "The Smiles Family" and was basically a doorway to the supposed chapter 2 of the story. (Even if the story could've just ended by now.)
I like your energy and personality. There’s something so intrinsically entertaining about an adult man playing roblox horror with the blandest tone of voice I’ve ever heard and almost no reactions to anything. Just dry humor commentary. It’s like manlybadasshero but funnier. I’m subscribing rn 👍
there more like apple pie the game where you are in middle of forest and you need to find ingredients and put into basket to then make apple pie but the game slowly getting creepy and harder as you progress
Remember when slender man was the staple of horror games mid 2000’s to 2013? Yeah and now he’s in cringey minecraft animations for little 2 year olds begging their mommy for a phone
A stereotypical obby is a good game, but the ending seemed very rushed. I mean, going through all that deep and eerie stuff just to get killed by a random monster, with no story or explanation? It would have been better if, for example, after you finish the obby you wake up in your room, thinking it was all a dream... but once you exit the room, you are greeted by the obby once again, showing how there is no escape after all. The random monster at the end pissed me off once i played the game for the first time... i mean, at least give us an explanation??
i remember playing this one game that baited me but it was like a basic “scary zombie” game but it sent me to a different game at the end of the game and it was was terrifying as a kid sent me to a new game alone
you lost all the lore because you skipped through the starting dialogue and they keep saying it’s crazy with the lighting and stuff because you kept looking behind and behind over and over so when it was gonna do it’s thing you looked behind be fore it could happen - Stereotypical Obby or FOR the obby.
at 10:08 i actually snapped my head over to the screen bc september 13th is my bday 😭😭😭 if i had a nickel for every time i saw september 13th be a major lore day in games i would have two nickels.. which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
