Good effort! I think this was a really great lesson in just how "physical" modern tennis really is, especially on slow red clay. Your opponent was simply physically stronger than you and his shots had more natural weight/heavier spin, even though you were better at flattening out your shots and taking more risk. IMO, in terms of the bigger picture, you need to find at least two 4-week training blocks (possibly even 3) over the course of a full year where your PRIMARY focus is on gaining total body strength, with an extra emphasis on your legs, core and shoulders. One of the biggest benefits of all strong US college tennis programs, aside from the competition, is their emphasis on off court weight training for strength and power. Just my 2 cents. All the best and I look forward to watching your continuing journey!
I like the idea but it's just so hard to find blocks like that with how long the tennis season is. Maybe November December but there isn't much off season so sometimes it means trying to figure out how to manage a year round sustainable program. Getting knocked out of tournaments can help too
Thanks to both of you for an amazing tennis session. I'm following Felix from the the start and is so encouraging and useful for my own tennis adventure that became part of my coaching. By the way, the pro guy ranked 1241, that was awesome to see him flying the court reaching every ball... I'm impressed!!
Hi Felix, tough match against a very strong opponent. You're not far away. A few tweaks tactically here and there and a few wins and you'll be off! Will look forward to watch yourlast few events of the season. Finish strong and go for it!
Hey dude, I would like so much on a video in which you tell us your racquet configuration, what strings you use, the lb you use on it, the weight of your racquet, and why you chose that over others. Thank you!
Hell yeah Felix. LET's GO. I always root for you to do well in these matches. I like your personality and it makes me pull for all your tournies and hopefully you can bag more victories.
I played once in the Calanques (south France) the courts where on the montain with a view on the sea. Even if it was really hot like 35° C we had the wind from the sea. It was amazing
Great job, Felix! Btw, I noticed your opponent foot faulted a lot during the match. If stuff like that happens, you can let some officials know about that. They’ll take care of that.
Felix, you have to include net-playing much more to your game strategy, mixed with slow balls, shorter balls and drop shots. Get creative. And analyse Federer's gameplay! Tennis has a lot to do with probability calculation. If your opponent makes less mistakes you have to change your strategy. In such cases get creative or loose. Last thing, tennis has all to do with confidence. Get your opponent to doubt himself. Make him think!
The view of the court is incredible! From the looks of it your backhand has improved, although a few errors crept up under pressure. I think the slice needs a bit of work, some looked good but others were a little bit floaty. Overall tough opponent - just wished you took the first set.
Try to use more legs to your shots. Look how down he gets to get another form of body stand. This might has more contol and heavy return than run to get the ball on high.. Get more time ... On serve too.. You are having great progress !!! Congrats & Enjoy
so much suspense watching this, getting up a quick break then getting broke back. solid game Felix, hope you keep progressing and achieving your goals out there
When Giannicola served from deuce court, his back foot crossed the center mark. That's a fault. He probably had never played any tournament with line judges.
Gonna need to hit deeper than that if you want to control the center of the court. Looks like too many down the shots line get you in trouble from being mediocre and are hit without much purpose.
I don't think taking risk and going for winners on many of the key points was always the correct choice. Yeah top players won't miss on those key points but you could wait for a slightly easier ball before going for a more attacking shot, slowly building up the rally. Also now you are getting used to the pace of these matches, I would try and slow yourself down a little so you're breathing and thinking more about shot selection, and play for more angles and waiting for your opponent to move or mis read your shot selection - easier said than done but I think this could help you.
Sup bro. Thanks for the content, as always!! I had the impression that was your most consistent match even though you got tired at the end. You are in the right path. Things i think you should talk to your coach : following the idea of staying more in the point like you did, you have to get the control of the point more often but without risking too much, just using ball high and depth so then you can approach the net more often mid point, in good conditions of winning the point and putting pressure on your opponent. Keep it up buddy, your 1st point is getting closer. See you in ur nxt vid ✌️
It looks like your risk-taking ("decisiveness") pays off early in the game when you are fresh and your game is still an unknown. But when you lose even a bit of edge due to physical overdoing, your luck runs out on these choices. I'm sure that with more matching, adjustments will fall in place; practice can't really help there, but being aware of the factors that make you ace or fail should.
Good luck Felix, I’m enjoying your channel and wishing you good luck. Media career taking off as well perhaps ?! You’ve got a great attitude and I hope all the hard work pays off .
Well played. Here's my quick analysis. You played a little bit too much into his strengths by letting him continue to push you back. Against players like that, you need to commit to your court positioning and continue to play aggressive. It's way easier said than done because that weight of shot is going to continue to come at you, but you have to use your feet to get in position to take the ball early and take away time from your opponent. You did really well on points that you came to net on and when you mixed things up with the serve and volley. A player for you to watch, just judging by your game style is Alex DiMinaur. Watch the way he moves on the court and hugs the baseline. Bottom line, commit to being aggressive, use that forehand, and keep looking for opportunities to move forward.
How do you deal with lack of confidence on your backhand? You mentioned that you worked on it a lot, so did you feel nervous at all while hitting it? I’ve been working on my forehand, but when i play tournaments i get nervous and slow down my racquet head speed.
What an amazing place that looks and really well played. You will start to win more matches as your game is imroving every week however i feel like you could have played more attacking that match to make the rallies shorter as he was a very fit, physical player and langer rallies suited him more. Keep up the good work i cant wait to see more👍
Tough match, he's obviously beatable as he's not that highly ranked but he got to play his game against you today. I am sure your coach will have some thoughts on tactics - perhaps just taking those smashes better and working on that down the line backhand would be enough?
GL before the video stars as well 🙏🏾 either way your form is coming together! Time to get that robot type of body figure that we all see in the ATP. Your doing the right stuff bro
Thank you for posting! It’s high level match. I enjoyed watching. Based on your match videos, I believe if you hit more balls deeper, you would win more games.
I think you got a great technic of shots and nice moving. What i saw here , you had lack of aggression. Do not wait what your opponents will do , just play your game and push them , be more aggressive. You got a great potential , need to practice more how to use it
Nice videos as always Felix!! Btw what camera do you use to record the matches? I would like to record myself to review matches and improve and am looking for a setup.
Congrats on keeping the good morale, and keep practicing.I am also following Iori yoshida. He is an aspiring player. Not as young as you are. Could you organize a game, if your paths cross one day? He comes to Europe often
Gréât effort. Id work on Anticipation to take it early on neutrals - easier said than done but you’re grinding from behind too much - even if you win that takes a physical toll out of you if you want to get through multiple rounds. Just my silly little opinion ;)
Great match! Work on your in to in more, you kept getting down on the inside out when you approached the net. If you had kept him guessing more I think you would of got a few more points. tough condition awesome match, you’ve improved loads 😮
Definitely a notable difference!! I see quite a bit of improved overall quality. I still think you should move forward more ofter. I really think if you are able to win one of these matches it will foster the self-belief you need. It seems as if in the back of your mind, no matter how well the match is going, you are subconsciously expecting for things to turn south at some point. It's easier said than done, but I am optimistic that you will get there! Best of luck
Hee Felix, love the content and your efforts. Keep it up! Sometimes looks you lose points due to footwork, is this something you work on? Giannicola looks like a player that will make a lot of mistakes when you use the slices a lot if I have to analyze his technique.
just wondering but i noticed something odd in the 3rd game of the 2nd set. i noticed it when it was 30-30 but you were serving on the left side. This continued into when it was 30-40 and with the voiceover it seemed to have been correct. was there an error somewhere in that game?
Try to keep deep forehand i watch many of your videos and i notice that your forehand balls just hit the service box line try to keep it as deep as possible 🤔
He's foot faulting every time when serving to the deuce court. Probably hard to see and a weird dynamic to call him on it during the match, but someone should have.
