People seem to be forgetting that this is a *very* early access, the full game isn't set to be finished until 2026 at the earliest. I'm not disappointed personally - the game still has another 3 years of development at *least*, a buggy mess and lack of things to do with an early access release should be expected
@@Aimee0206 I've seen early access games and this one is basically a game prototype. It looks like it's too early for this game, there's not even gameplay that you can test.
I think the whole thing was misleading. The kickstarter trailer made you believe there was at least horse, rider and map. You may not know but the dev's were not truthful about the state of the game. They spent all this time showing us bits of things, but the horse from 6-8 months ago that they showed leaping over a triple fence beautifully doesn't exist now. They admitted just at release of this EA that they had to RESTART the game twice...meaning they deleted it all and restarted from scratch...twice. This should only be free to play and was only released due to meeting funding deadlines. They mislead the whole community by never telling them what had happened. Main points: 1. A dev left and they restarted everything (March 22) 2. The early stuff didn't work out well...probably as that dev left, but they claimed they were just re-working stuff 3. They restarted everything again last summer as apparently Unity was bringing in "Unity DOTS", saying the game couldn't be moved over at all. This is completely untrue, as a game can be moved to DOTS in time. Who would make a game code update that requires you to delete your WHOLE game just to use it? (I am not an expert, quick research told me it can be used by existing games) 4. The game does NOT run well, even in this state. 5. My biggest issue is THEY SAID NOTHING about the fact they restarted this game twice from scratch in the last year. That was twice since the kickstarter trailer with 0 comment about it. Now all the nice art work, short clips of horses, horse models etc just look misleading. Sorry if this is a long post, but you were right to say don't buy it. I just find it so sad that they weren't more honest about it.
This is not gonna threaten sso's status, not in this state at least. As of now it's just a glorified horse customizer and walking simulator. The lighting engine is really lackluster, the menu UI is horrendously simplistic (no personality whatsoever), the animations don't look natural (sometimes the weight is wack or the transitions aren't done properly). I will say that the customization is kind of impressive but that's about it for Astride. I don't think it was ready for early access this early, it's barely playable (as in, no gameplay to even test). Even Equestrian the game had more going for it. Honestly it kind of smells like a scam at this point.
Hm. It looks awesome and something I'd play, but in terms of me abondoning SSO for it? Nah. I don't really like the realistic horse games. I like SSO because I can run around in a beautiful magical world and be an english, western, or fantasy rider. I love all the cute outfits and styles like the skirts, beach fits, and emo store. I love having your own style and doing whatever you want with all those different horses. Where as games like this give me the impression it's just boring jumping courses. I've played a lot of horse games before sso and pretty much all of them were similar and realistic like this and I would never want to play them because they were boring. So while Astride looks very cool and I'll probably play it in the future, it definitely won't take me away from or replace SSO.
Astride was the only game that had potential to go up against SSO, and I'm highly doubtful that is the case now. I was a patreon supporter and I've been waiting for this release for a while, and they have nothing to show for the years of work they have been putting into this game. Where has my money gone? Why the hell have they had to restart development TWICE?? Rest assured they are not getting another cent from me, whole thing seems extremely sketchy and misleading.
I dont really like those reviews that say its dissapointing. If i remember, they somewhere said they had to release it at this stage because they are funded by the goverment and they do have a certain deadline. And they even warned multiple times that this is pre-alpha, theres even a warning before you start. So in my honest opinion, i think is definitely a good start, and 25 euros, it could be steep for some, i think is a steal. Mind you only have to pay for it once (unlike SSO), once its finished it will cost a lot more for those who didnt buy it now, and afterwards there will be DLC's added that you can choose if you want it or not. I definitely enjoyed it, especially horse creation, so far for pre-alpha it is great! I wont deny there is still a lot of work to be done, like the lighting, smoother transitions and jumps, and the UI etc., but i am feeling optimistic.
The game has been in development for years and the only thing they have to show for it is a glitchy/glowy horse in a bare paddock without a rider. Also, there's no guarantee that you we will ever get the complete game Astride has promised us- paying 25 dollars is taking a big gamble, because there's no guarantee that people will like the game that they are paying to maybe have someday. I think it's more responsible to just wait and see if you want to buy it later once the game is more developed, especially if you're on a budget.
There will be. People arnt giving astride the chance. Everyone got too excited too quickly and demanded more and more from the game pushing it to release in this state.
Disappointed to hear this about Astride, however since the ETG debacle I have very cynical about horse games. TBH they all seem to be over-hyped, and beset with problems.
@Julia W, before it was global released, there was a TON of hype for it and its potential. However, by the time global release finally came around, although it is better than most mobile games, it's nothing more than a repetitive (do this again and again for training and competing) and expensive game (season passes). They also promised alot more gameplay than what we have gotten and I've heard less and less about some of that game play as time has gone on. In short, alot of promises are given and not many are actually met by these games.
I just hope that Astride grows up to shut up people who didn't have faith in pre-alpha. I have faith in the game because you can see that the team is making an effort to bring as much as they can to the game and even if it takes time, at least something incredible will come out different from SSO that brings badly finished horses and do not care about player feedback .
