Turn on Subtitles/CC for usage steps. Playing my remodelled HMV hand crank gramophone. Using a medium tone needle. The record is a little bit scratched, hence the noise.
1. please put on the tone arm on the right side not the left. 2. put the needle in an angle of about 60 degrees pointing into the direction of spin (pointing towards you when the arm is on the right side) 3. use every needle only ONCE then throw it away otherwise your records will be destroyed. 4. this is a replica model which has a tone arm that might be too heavy. The weight put onto the record by it should be about 100 grams. These old records are not being made anymore, please handle them carefully because when they're gone they're gone. Cheers!
These do and they do it very quickly. This is a " reproduction" from India. The market has been flooded with these in recent years. These are cobbled together from a mixture of old and new, poorly made parts.
First off, the record starts playing before the needle comes in contact with the record. Secondly, it doesn't get through a record it's because it's just a cheap knock-off from India, with a crumby little spring that can't get through a 12 inch record.
not only to have a fake !! You destroy your records, the head is on the wrong side of the record and the needle always tilted in the direction on drives never straight.
An authentic machine properly set up sounds wonderful. This gentleman obviously is new to 78s and machines , and hasn't been shown how to spot a fake (which this is), or play records properly. He'll learn as we all did at some point in our lives.
Give the man a break. I'm sure he has no idea it's a reproduction, let alone how to properly play a record on one even if it was real. And that's okay. For crying out loud, most people today don't even know what a 78 rpm record is. Let the guy be.
Hello, we have a similar one, maybe an original version since it was owned by my mom's grandmother, but we lost the hand crank and needle. Anyone can give me the specifications of the hand crank, the needle and the records compatible with this gramophone please?
NOOOOOOOO!!!! Put the needle on the OTHER SIDE OMG !!! Have the grooves move from the back !! You're gonna WRECK all your needle and records doing it this way. - Record plays clockwise - ALWAYS - let the groove feed through from BEHIND.
This is an Indian crapophone and that's another reason why it sounds bad.If you are going to invest in a gramophone,make sure its the real thing and not one of these fakes.
Can you change disc? Or is it only able to play the record that comes with it? Also what did you pay for this one? Is it the 99GDP replica? Thanks in advance
Hello Erik I recommend that you do NOT buy one of these reproductions they are very bad quality and DESTROY your records try finding an actual vintage machine that will sound much better!
You have got the Arm on the WRONG SIDE OF THE RECORD, & the needle should be angled slightly so it flows and writes like a pen.. UNBELIEVABLE, how you think it should be played and set up.
Yeah, no, don't follow this. He puts the needle on the wrong side AND at a wrong angle. I bet he shaved off as much shellac as a record played 100 times properly...
There are many tutorials on here, including those that show you how to spot a cheap and fake machine like this one. This gentleman is new to the hobby. Some collectors feel the need to be condescending, so just ignore them, and continue to ask questions. There are many highly knowledgeable people on the Facebook "Antique Phonograph Enthusiasts" page. Good luck and HAVE FUN.
TheRocket995. If you crank it backwards the crank will unscrew and then you can lift the lid off. Also when winding it up you will know it is fully wound when it starts becoming a little firm to turn. (be careful not to over crank past the firm point.)
