I will have to attempt this block. My Singer finally bit the dust. My hubby just got me a new machine for a combo anniversary, Mother’s Day and my birthday. They all fall within 6 days. Tip for "kissing the line" (AKA "scant" 1/4" seam): using a regular presser foot (the kind that you could zigzag with), move your needle position one notch to the right, then stitch with your drawn line centered as usual. This tip comes from Ricky Tims' book "Harmonic Convergence"

To use smaller scraps for this method, take any pair of measurements, one twice as big as the other. Add 7/8" to the finished size for the smaller one and 1.25" to the desired larger finished size and cut your squares that size. For example for a goose that finishes 2" 😅x4" in the quilt, use 5 1/4" for your larger square and 2 7/8" for the 4 smaller ones.

Hi Brenda, another Carla checking in. And another who fully intended to join the quilting Saturday. My birthday was on Wednesday and then Mother’s Day yesterday. It never dawned on me I’d be busier than a hive of bees this weekend. We have four boys and my fun family time was spread out all weekend. Even got some group yard week done. I chuckled this morning as I noticed your video was the herringbone block. I have one wedding gift quilt as soon as I finish my current one. Tada! The next quilt is a navy and white batik Zigzag (herringbone) quilt for a daughter in law. I had planned to make it using HST’s but may rethink it after watching. Confession time, I have never tried this method that you showed although I have known about it for years. Thanks for keeping me on my toes!

Thank you for the detailed tutorial. This makes a pretty chevron block. I think it is superior to the half square triangle method because you don't get that line down the middle. I have tried this method by drawing just one line and sewing 1/4" on each side of the line. It didn't work very well and I seemed to have a hole in the "V" part. I will try your method. I attended the Zoom session for the first time last Saturday. I had the most delightful time sewing and talking with the kind people from around the world. Thank you tremendously for providing this forum. You have me hooked to this new technology combined with sewing. Thank you, again.
