Coach Nick! Thanks for uploading this. I'm an assistant coach for a small college team and we are working on this. I've been trying to find film on it for a couple days and saw you uploaded this! Great timing sir. This helps tremendously.
Helping the helper is one of my favorite positions to be in defensively because depending on how well you read the developing offensive play, there are many steal oppurnities to be had. The counter is how well the opposing ball handler recognizes your intentions and makes the correct pass.
Good Man He's single covered. It's basically like covering Odell Beckham Jr with a 4th round cornerback in his first game. Also the ball movement frees him up a lot. But I would love to see a video on it. Good recommendation 👍
very cool. but I'd like him to go deeper. shown us some teams which when the pass goes to the corner and the guy on top has to rotate, then it's swung around to the top and the next man rotates while the big find his big again..find some clips of the teams that are able to defend that play on occassion too. because not all of those rotations here lead to turnovers...sometimes the driver is able to find the guys in the corner and we have to see 2nd and 3rd efforts.
how about IF the ball handler is a very good passer and makes the right pass to the wing, the wide open three to To the corner. Will help the helper work?
pogi catalan when someone is helping, you have to leave someone open, and a kick out like that is a more difficult pass and takes more time, giving the defense time to close out. He actually mentions what the defenders should do in this situation. Looking at the diagram, 3/4 would be responsible for closing out to that kick out pass if that happens
Good question, it's all about how you built you rotations. Teams will be in full scramble mode wherever the pass goes. Generally teams do a good job rotating to the first pass out whether it's to the wing or corner. They usually fail getting to the pass after that. It's a multiple effort thing.
when they do the X and O diagrams where do they make them all black? why not make one team one colour and the other team another colour? make it so much easier on the eyes
theJumpBall.net cheers bud, btw im Aussie. what was it like working with the Oz team in London? seems like our boys have a real good culture which serves them well. hopefully it stays that way in the future
Sorry for the delayed response, I loved it. I am not Australian but the guys on the team accepted from day 1 like I was a family. I'm still close with many of them to this day. Coach Brown used to refer to it as mateship, not sure if that's an Aussie term but it certain is an Aussie thing. It was fantastic.
Great video! I just feel like if it's lebron James coming off that screen instead of Mack, he finds a way to hit that guy in the left corner for the open three. Correct me if I'm wrong tho.
It's a tough pass even for LeBron but yeah he might find that guy more than the average player because he's you know one of the best. There is also a man who rotates to the corner if the ball is being passed there.
got to drill on it several times. I used to be part of a coaching staff that devoted 20 minutes of practice to drilling this. Coach would say if we did only one thing in a practice it would be that.
+jabasimakol this was always the easiest to teach and the thing my teams executed the best. There are some rules to install to make it easier for weakside players to understand what to do, I need to do an on court demo on this
But smart offenses can break that down by skipping the pass (most likely to the corner man) to the man that was originally being defended by the helper's helper.
It's a hard pass to complete when driving and if done correctly there is a defender on the weakside whose job it is to close out to either pass (the wing or the corner). The defender who drops done rotates to the next pass after that and the big rotates to his man. It's all a rotation.
theJumpBall.net That is true, but it's probably the players best shot at an open man in a situation where the helper's helper correctly rotates. Nonetheless, there's a lot more variables and factors that is too difficult to understand thru comments haha
Granted that Mo does a good job, but his voice doesn't have the excitement or passion that you can hear in your voice coach. Teenage fanclub ft de la soul - fallin. ----> love the tune coach.
Ha, I try but don't mistake the tone in my voice for lack of excitement or passion for coaching. I promise you I love good basketball. That's why I spend time making the videos. I'll try to put more in my voice next time.
Aw man Mo AND Coach replied?! shhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, that's awesome. I felt bad for writing what I wrote, I didn't want to add discouragement to Mo from making more videos, I'm glad you took it as constructive criticism and I look forward to seeing both of your videos in the future.
