hey bud wanted to say thank you to you and this video! my lens went down about 3 weeks ago and was able after an hour or more and tilting my ps3 at different angles to finally load, but that's not a long term solution! I found a chart on line that told me what lens I had and was about to order it, but I took your advice and opened it up to see myself, and it was the wrong laser I was about to order! I ordered the right lens, studied your video over and over, my lens came today! followed along with the video just to be safe, did the break down and install.... and my PlayStation works great! thank you for your time in making this video that helps people do things on their own and learn instead of relying on others to do it for you! take care bud Merry Christmas!
In the last 2 days i replaced the joystick on the right joycon of my switch and the laser on my 2007 fat ps3. Thanks to your vid. The ps3 was actually easier then the switch joy con. Thanks
Thank you for this video. You explain a lot of little details I really didn't know. I'm going to give my system another try with the new information you gave me.
Hello, I just want to thank you for the video. I have a ps3 like this one with blu ray reading issues. I will buy a laser and try to replace it, carefully following your video. You seem to explain the process very well. Then I’ll send a feedback here. Greetings
Hey, just adding a follow up. I followed your video and it was easy to replace the laser. Everything came smooth. But it keeps not reading games. It plays DVD’s but not games. I purchased the laser from What looks a reliable hardware store, soo.. I’m a bit confused and frustrated, lol... Thank you for your video.
Trust me that you aren't alone with your frustration. The laser is a two part laser. One part reads DVD's and the other part reads Blu-Ray's. Unfortunately you have a defective laser that has been put in requiring a replacement.
I have an old original PS3 Fat version from 2006 that won't read any discs any more. (game, BluRay or DVD). I watched you RU-vid video on how to replace the laser and got a replacement part KEM-400AAA from Amazon. After changing the part it would play a BluRay once for a few seconds and then stop. It won't play any games at all either, but will play old DVDs just fine. Have you heard of this before? Any suggestions what to try next?
Thank you so much! Currently have everything apart. Going to see if I can go buy a 400 series drive laser. I have the exact same model as you're using in the video
@@CubbyTv24 if it isn't reading ps2 or ps3 games then your laser isn't working right unfortunately. These are dual eye lenses. One eye is for DVD and cd, the other is for bluray ps3 disc's. Did you change out for a new laser?
It came with the whole laser deck, but I just took the laser from it. That may be the issue. However, the strip to connect the laser on the new deck seems too short for the laser to slide all the way down
Extremely well done, and I sure wish you were still repairing them, as you'd get my business! You're very thorough and exacting, my kinda tech. My ps3 just stopped reading dvd's but still plays blu-ray discs and ps3 games. Why is that? Is it possible for one aspect of the laser to have failed, like JUST for the dvd's yet blu-rays and games play fine?
The PS3 system has two laser on the assembly. One for reading DVD's and one for reading Blu-ray discs. One of the lasers has failed and the other is working fine. This is the reason that before we sell any console out of our store, we test all our consoles with both types of discs. :) Thanks for the compliments but yes, I stopped doing repairs so that I could travel the world.
There is no solder blob on PS3 lasers. I have NEVER seen one on PS3 lasers. There is on PS2 lasers and a bunch of other systems. They are on there to help with static issues during shipping.
hey there seems like you know your PS3's i have recently installed a new laser in mine as it just stopped reading. but its still not working the DVD spins and the laser seems to go back and forth and i see the light through the disc as im running it with the top off and the magnet over the disc. it just keeps spinnning and does not seem to read on the PS3 . i would really like to get this fixed as its eating so much of my time up haha. thanks for your input.
We only repair consoles from Canada. With that in mind, you should really include information like where you are, what do you have and what problem are you having?
Hey I hope you’re still check your comments! So the little white piece that you have to screw on the new laser broke on mine. The little spring part. Will that affect it? Because it won’t pull the disk in or anything now.
I've installed a new laser, but my system now activates the white disc locking tab upon just trying to insert a disc. I've been told this might be caused by the laser bars might not be aligned. Do you agree?
I am sorry but I have no idea what "laser bars" are as that isn't a part of the drive. Therefore I can't comment one way or another. If the drive isn't working right then you didn't set it up properly.
Sounds like your laser isn't working. This is unfortunately very common since the quality of lasers that are available for purchase these days for these old systems is pretty poor. :(
After replacement my laser was working for a short time then stopped. I think the gears are all good, testing with the black top off the drive I simulate a disc going in, and I see the laser move and adjust up and down but there is no light. Did my new laser just burn out that fast or is there something causing it to die?
Question for you: I took apart my fat PS3 (80GB backwards compatible) to clean it and also cleaned the laser. I'm not certain if it's because of that, but when I was testing everything after reassembly, I noticed that I cannot play audio CDs anymore (I haven't played one in a very long time, so not sure if it's a new issue or not). BluRay, DVDS, and PS3 games all work fine. I'm at a loss as to why I can't play CDs now. Any ideas? Thanks!
Yeah, that doesn't make sense. Your system has two lasers. One for Blu-Ray and one for everything else. But it will be related to the laser regardless. I have NEVER cleaned a laser personally and have worked on over 500 ps3 systems. I always replace.
Yes and I talk about this in the video. There are two lenses on the laser unit. One for Blu-Ray and one for DVD/CD discs. Your issue is that your laser is dead on the BluRay side and needs to be replaced.
hey power up gaming i have a question to ask , so my parents have a ps3 same modle as that one but its the next one that came out after words , so no one in the house hold plays the ps3 but me and the ps3 is still in amazing shape but when i want to play newer games like gta v , or stants prow iv , black ops ,etc the ps3 will complitly freeze , but its more of if i put in gta v it will load but then freeze comtly without even loading the game , does my parents ps3 do this because its a older ps3 and cant play newer games ? or is it something inside the ps3 that will need to be fixed ?
+HOTJIMI4EVER, hello again. :) It definitely sounds like the laser is also an issue in the case of the system you speak of. The newest games that you describe have more information on the disc and the more information on the disc, the harder it is for the system to successfully read it. This is the reason that it fails more on the newer games versus the older ones. We can replace the laser with a brand new one and offer a 6 month warranty for $85 plus tax.
Oh hey budd, I know this video was made 4 years ago, but I'm looking to repair a ps3, taking an interest in repairing old broken consoles, can you suggest a site to get parts from? Thanks Budd!
Ones that work are the best. But seriously, it isn't easy finding a supplier that has quality parts. Most lasers are remanufactured now so the quality is crap. Wish I had better news.
I got a BC unit (CECHA00) that wont read ps2/dvd(no reaction when disk inserted) . I went ahead and replaced the laser unit KES-400A. But it still wont read dvd after replacement, what else should I be checking/ replace? much appreciated
Glad it suits your needs. We buy our lasers in bulk from distribution. Sorry I can't help with a supplier. On top of that, even if I could suggest, my viewers are from all over the world.
So there was a part where you said the arm should go on top of that metal bar I took a picture before I replaced and it was under. I had put it under because I referred to the picture. Is it better to put it over should I go back and do it it was the original laser so I was just trying to put it back the way I found it
@@PowerUpGamingCanada yes I watched your video first and then I did it and I was rewatching it after and that's when I saw it after I put it back together I just happen to take a pic. I came to that part and i was like what do I do here so I just looked at the pic. But yes it does work you made it very easy and simple to follow thank you
I have an issue maybe you might know its a ps3 fat chechh01 ps3 system works fine plays ps1 games and psn games just fine but will not play ps3 games it will load the title and name on the main screen but once you click to load it goes black and comes back to the xmb main menu again what could it be ?
That happened to me too when I just switched the whole blue ray reader. You need to switch chip also on the blue ray. He mention this in the video. This is of course if u switched the blue ray also.
Hello Great Video 😊 I want to fix my Fat PS3. I don't know what's really wrong with it. Each time I place a game into it all I see that comes up is the PlayStation Store lit in blue. I've tried Factory Resetting it in which that took a few hours to wait an when it was done it still did the same thing. Each time someone had played with it in the past they would not turn it off correctly an the next time it would read that this wasn't turned off correctly an it could effect the hard drive an this was done several times years ago. I recently found it in storage an I want to see it operating again. It will not play any movies are any games. I can watch RU-vid videos on it. So after seeing a few videos about the laser, I'm only guessing that could be the problem. So I went to search for a laser an I found the whole mother board with laser an I've got all the tools to work on it but in the description with the mother board with Laser it gives off different numbers for the Fat PS3 but I don't know where to look for this number to make sure I get the right one for the one I've got. I have never took one of them apart an only want to watch RU-vid videos to help me repair the one I got but looking up part numbers is my only problem. There's no one locally to Fix Playstation Consoles an so my only alternative is to fix it myself by watching RU-vid videos explaining how it's done. so could you help me to understand where the part number is on the Fat PS3 to the Laser Mother Board, so I could get the right one for the one that I have? Thanks Way So Much For Your Video. 😊
