On Twitter it's so painful to see them brag about a 1 second faster load time when big channels like Linus have tested 4 SSDs and you cannot tell the difference unless you're intentional looking for it or timing it. I also kind of knew the second the new consoles were said to have an SSD we'd see this, yet they label PC players as elitists when we don't even do this with all the different brands or types of SSDs on PC.

Jay's livestreams are more effective than Nyquil and they're free. Also, Gamers Nexus did a 1080p120hz comparison of the PS5 versus an entry level PC with a GTX 1060(released in 2016). He found that the 1060 OUTPERFORMED the PS5 with equivalent low quality graphics, framerates, and frame pacing. He concluded on the performance of the PS5 saying that a "5-6 year old entry level GPU" runs games better. Only thing the PS5 has is faster loading times, Windows 10 will have DirectStorage and Nvidia will have RTX IO as ordinary features available for anyone to use.

The one thing that Frit failed to mention in response to "not optimizing for a 2000+ dollar PC" ....He does know that as new tech comes out, the "2000+" dollar PC drops down in price. That 2000+ dollar PC isn't gonna be 2000+ for long, but the game will still run on the 2000+ dollar hardware even when it becomes worth $500, and the game will run just as well no matter the arbitrary price. Its good to optimize for even the high-end when a developer is looking for long-term sales.

So I would like to call out the sony pony on the M.2 thing. I don't know what percentage of PC gamers have PCIE NVMe M.2 SSDs because it would be insnely hard to actually figure that out but I can say the sales of them are high and you can get a 1TB good name brand one for like $120 and if you really hunt around or are willing to go with off brand less then $100 I don't think they are rare (in fact they seem pretty common to me because it is a pretty cheap upgrade that massively decreses load times and it is pretty easy to get PC gamers to upgrade something if there will be a noticable diffrence) at all and they are definitly not holding anything back in any way at all.

A game that fully utilized the SSD of the PS5 or Series X by essentially treating it as a large pool of slow memory, could not be ported to PC unless the minimum spec for the game on PC included an NVME SSD (or massive amount of RAM). But I've seen no reason to believe that "Abandoned" is using the SSD in this way.

You hit a button and the level flips entirely. Technically The Medium probably also uses a similar thing with world switching and even dual viewport where it renders two completely different controllable areas at the SAME TIME

I'm sorry but what we saw from Ratchet and Clank you don't normally do that world jumping action, you more often just use it to teleport around the existing map. That's exactly what Portal is.

Just because it is more work for PS5 games to be optimized for the wide variance of PC's out in the world does not mean that PC is holding back the PS5.

My personal issue with the fanboy-ism that exists, specifically around the Sony Interactive camps, is that they inherently are stupid. They have little, to no, understanding of what they're talking about. When they do, they're preached out of the pocket of some RU-vidr who fed them the information, and said RU-vidr manufactured the information for them to boast. Examples are "Texture filtering is better on the PS5" (for insert game) when it was on record that both games utilize the exact same texture filtering, and there is nearly an identical frame-to-frame, aside from a HIGHER core resolution on the Xbox verses the PlayStation. They'll boast about some sort of extra-feature ('cache-scrubbing') without understanding what it does and how irrelevant it actually is, and dictate that 'it's why x happens'. Examples of why cache scrubbing is irrelevant was done by nVidia, dictating that in order for it to be effective, you would need a cache pool in the GB range. The PS5 4MB of cache for the GPU. The thing that's going to me embarrassing for the lot of them is going to be their realization later this year that the PS5 was more of a "What if we repeated the PS4 steps" instead of "What if we...just change the entire dynamic of what console games do". I don't think any of them understand that Sony Interactive plans on releasing a PS5 Pro in 2023, which will feature nearly identical hardware/instruction capabilities equal to that of the Xbox Series X, and I don't think any of them understand how the Series X is running at nearly 50c under load with a fan-speed that's at 50%...and how a firmware update could simply increase voltage & frequency to increase performance without hesitation. I don't think any of them understand that the reason why Sony interactive chose an "Off the shelf SSD for external storage" was because their storage medium was the 'same' as the PC. When Cerny talked, he specifically said "at the time", which was early 2019...before Gen 4 nVME SSD's hit the market. He gave this talk in 2020, which was marketing propaganda later debunked (clearly). This also extends to the reality of the Xbox's storage solution being unique and capable of feeding assets directly from storage without requiring CPU instruction (or, RTX IO as they created the technology of 'direct storage' Microsoft implemented). I don't think ANY of them acknowledge that there is a fundamental difference between the 'geometry engines' on the Xbox verses Playstation 5 consoles, where the PS5 will effectively be 'outdated' once the Xbox's is properly utilized/leveraged, hence the requirement of the PS5 Pro around this time (2023), which will feature a mesh geometry engine. I'm not a console fanboy, I primarily play video games on the PC when I do. But the massive amounts of disinformation, discrepancies, and overall 'smooth brained talking points' I see consistently within the Sony Interactive sphere remind me HEAVILY as to why I veer away from their sorts of content. I don't mind hearing about the 'next' cool video game coming out exclusively for the console, or a couple rumors of new upcoming titles, but when it comes heavily into this concept of "My console > your console", it's clearly an indication of those people having little, to no, self esteem.

Do they realize that the performance of the PS5 has been roughly available on PC for about 3 years now? The PS5 is a mid range system on the lower end compared to current PC hardware. They must realize that. Its basically a Ryzen 7 3700x if youre running it underclocked and AMD doesnt offer a RX6000 card slow enough to compare the PS5 GPU to. It got a soldered on SSD which from what we see right now is more in line with PCIe gen 3 ssds than the current gen 4. Guess they dont really have that special protocol they talked about so much figured out yet. You can have faster 1TB SSDs on the PC for about 100€. Samsung 970 evo plus for example. Available PC hardware is always on the forefront of whats the maximum available performance for consumers. Sure comes at a pricetag but a console has never been anything special from a hardware perspective.

There's one thing that holds the PS5 back from "it's true potential" and that's the pricing. If Sony wanted the PS5 to perform better, they would obviously charge more for it, or risk losing even more money. That's it.

And I have been saying ever since the specs for the PS5 got released, that SSD isn't gonna make virtually any difference compared to any other platform, yes, it is fast, but ANY SSD is better than the 7,200 RPM HDDs the PS4/Xbox one had, it is a big leap forward, for CONSOLES, but PCs have had SSDs for a decade. Faster SSDs does have its uses, however, go look at SSD reviews that include gaming benchmarks, you will notice a gap between mechanical HDDs and SSDs, but not much of a gap between different SSDs.

PS 4 was the 1440x900p gameplay and 4K cinematics, PS5: 1080p is the new 4K. Fanboys were going off until Jensen introduced the RTX 30 series and then nothing but crickets. People would visit and mention how good the 4k looks and I generally leave my resolution at 2560x1080 for the latest AAA titles. With HDR and Reshader ray tracing isn't needed without fps taking a swan dive. Deathloop will be the first game on the PS5 with a MS logo. Sony is moving towards mobile because they can't compete in a war they restarted after Phil Spencer said their real competitors are Google and Amazon. Bethesda was the first shovel of dirt in that grave. Sony's pride is their downfall, they are attacking PC because Sony refused to let Games Pass on console after Phil made the offer. Pride so big they went after the PC market because they are like a chiwawa barking at Gabe.
