OH MY GOD, I'VE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR SOMEONE TO POST THIS. I always loved the African music and that deep, rich, soothing voice they gave Stellaluna's mom.
My mom and I love Stellaluna. We always adored her little puppy dog face. Living Books only made her even cuter with her voice. I grew up with living books, too.
This game messed me up as a kid, I'm not joking. The part where Stellaluna fell down into the forest below disturbed me so much. I'm pretty sure that scene is responsible for my fear of heights.
LGW 1234159 that part confused as a kid because I didn’t know where stellaluna went off too .I was a young and I played the Demo where Stelluna started to fall all the way down in the forest
I read "Stellaluna" by Janell Cannon to the children in June 2019 at the facility I work at twice a week with my friends who are part of a top secret agency. They loved it! 👍🏻 if you're elated with glee.
I worked on this project when I was at Living Books. We went to the zoo and drew the flying foxes (Stellaluna is a Gambian Epauletted fruit bat) Haha, ohmigod, I can see misplaced pixels!!! GAH!
I'm guessing the moth that appears as a running gag throughout the story is supposed to be an African Moon Moth, but it's yellow instead of green. Those giant silk moths are still spectacular, and their size and the colorful wings are a nice exception from the usual moth stereotypes.
I don't know if you know this, but there was an Arthur episode (Season 12, "Bats in the Belfry") that had a parody of this story. D.W. mentioned a book her mom read to her, called "Starry Moony," a lost bat that lives with a friendly chipmunk but finds it hard to adapt to its' ways. Scholastic also produced a made-for-video animated movie based on this story, but it sucked compared to this game and the book (it had inferior overseas animation, cheesy songs and drastic character changes, more simplified character designs, and stuff like that.)
Too bad it was only released on VHS and DVD by MGM Home Entertainment in 2004. The other side of the DVD chapter selection card (Sleepover) contains a DVD cover of the actual animated film (which is not rated).
***** Aside from that Dan, but also, the animation on the adaptation look a little bit like a Nelvana cartoon. And another thing, it had WAY too many Hanna-Barbera sound effects to be played in an adaptation, and also, I hardly recognize any of the voices (except Lee Tocker, Chiara Zanni, and Kathleen Barr of Ed, Edd, n' Eddy) They must be Canadian.
Interesting little story. Either my game was broken or i never noticed the next page button but as a kid all i saw of this story was all the way up to 7:20. So i never knew there was more to the story.... and boy was I sad and disturbed.
@Andy Slaughter I sleep with a flying fox plush bat covered with organic bamboo velour fabric. That fabric is the most comfortable and keeps my sleepy sensations warm. And my plush bats cheered me on for winning jackpots on various arcade games.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG THE PART WHERE STELLALUNA FELL FUCKED ME UP AS A KID WHICH IS WHY I NEVER FINISHED THIS GAME. I WOULD PLAY UP TO THAT PART ONLY AND THEN TURN OFF MY COMPUTER omg. maybe thats why i grew up with a fear of getting separated from my mum
I once read a script of this book with my 5th grade class. I read Stellaluna’s quotes (hiding the fact that I was a boy reading the quotes of a girl). I made all of my classmates and teachers laugh and sigh when I read her quotes.
I've only played a demo of this game and read the book, I'm so jealous right now. You know of a site were I could download this without buying the game itself?
