Thanks! You can certainly go directly into studs, but I find it a bit cumbersome. There are four mounting holes on top and bottom (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), 2 & 4 are 16" apart, so they'll match up to your studs. 1, 3, and 5 however, are not. Its not clear how they expect you to meet minimum number of fasteners if only using studs (this may be why they want you to use lag screws, as well). With the plywood and/or stapping method, however, you can leverage all 5 hole locations on both top and bottom so that was my preference.

Thank you! I am 6’2 and the top of the drill holder is at the end of my reach. I don’t have the total height off hand, but if it’ll help you let me know and I will measure
