Please Don't Watch This if You're Scared of Stop Motion....You Have Been Warned | Mad Monster Party? 

How could someone hate an entire medium of art? Surely nobody could hate all claymation by default? That's like hating all books without reading them, or all games without playing them.

As a big fan of a LOT of Stop Motion TV shows, I totally get what you are saying. There is a TV series of Wind in the Willows that I adore, but it creeped me out a bit as a child. I know quite a bigt about stop motion history and the reason these puppets move and dance so weirdly is because (back in those days) the animators could not re-watch their animation as they were producing it. It was referred to as 'working blind' back in those days. Animators would obviously take continious photos of slightly moving a puppet, but they wasn't able to rewatch what they had animated until the film or show was all finished and edited by the editors and ready for transmission etc. In most cases however, vocal work for stop motion was recorded on a audio tape before any animation was created, so the animators would try to lip sync a puppet as much as they could with the actors voice. That's if the puppets mouth's moved, of course, if not, they would try to give the puppet the right kind of body language, if that makes sense. It wasn't until the late 80s, that animators would video record their work and check it on a playback before sending it to the editors.

I kind of feel bad for Peter Lorre. He became an entire creepy character type. With increasingly bad imitations of his voice. ( I started writing this while watching, and then you did a whole aside on it. Glad we're on the same page, I guess!)

They might have made fun of Peter Lorre but it stopped a serial killer from killing his daughter once they realized she was related to him. It's on his wikipedia page and is kinda epic that she survived because they were fans

As a kid, older crappy stop-motion animation scared me. The jittery movements and the soulless eyes.

I found this special on dvd for a dollar. Have yet to watch it though. Glad I watched this first cause it seems just okay Course (Maybe it's because I am a Halloween fan) But I would choose this over any of there Christmas ones any day.

this movie is a guilty pleasure for me it's terrible and i love it rankin bass is a big interest of mine and i don't understand how anyone could be scared of stop motion i find the puppets cute and the animation is charming to me :)
